IWD 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2004 If WWE is serious about using their video libraries, they have the scope for some great compilations. Chris Jericho looks certain to have one. Chris Benoit would also be great, and in all likelihood may happen, particularly if he gets a WrestleMania push. Hopefully a Bret Hart one if they can arrange something. Others: Booker T. Jerry Lawler (admittedly his best matches were pre-WWF) Eddie Guerrero Rob Van Dam Edge I'd like to see a Steiner Brothers one too, but I don't think they'll be able to market it correctly. Of course, they may just decide to do "The McMahons At War" or something like that. Any thoughts on the above or others that would make good DVD's? Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Si82 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2004 I'd love to see a Chris Jericho DVD. With his ECW stuff, all of his WCW career and his WWF/WWE career. I'd love to see stuff like his feud with Dean Malenko again on DVD. As well as his matches with Chris Benoit. Chris Benoit is another one I would love to see. They really have some quality matches to work with. Bret Hart is THE DVD I would like to see the WWE release. From his early days, to the Hart Foundation, his first singles championships, his comeback, feuds with Steve Austin and Shawn Michaels. It could be the ultimate WWE DVD ever in my opinion. I would mind seeing DVD of the rest either, maybe not Lawler I've never been a fan, but I am sure there are other that could get one. How about an ultimate Stone Cold Steve Austin DVD or a Rock one. Shit, people buy entire PPVs for one spot (see HITC), so it's not unreasonable to surmise that a DVD packed with all the best ones would be a monster. TLC bumps, Van Daminators, finishers, chairshots, balcony dives, tables, flaming tables... shit, they've got their own mamoth library, plus WCW, ECW, AWA, GCW and a million others. There used to be a 30-second promo for Wrestling Challenge that featured a bunch of WWF stars doing moves and finishers set to music, and it was quality. They could do some sort of countdown with wrestler introductions and interviews, along with teh option to watch them all in one big sequence set to music. Fanboyish, I know, but I'd buy it. I think you could definitely get (at least) two three-disc sets out of Bret's matches and angles. Bloodbath II. I have a rough idea about what I'd like to see on that one. And I was thinking about the concept of just releasing two or three-disc sets not devoted to any particular wrestler, but they're just collections of really great matches. I was working on a "Greatest Tag Team Matches" compilation with the help of Keith's rants. I DON'T mean a DVD transfer of "Break Down the Walls" either (VHS fluff piece on Jericho that came out 2000 I think). Did Benoit/Jericho have any great matches that didn't really make it on PPV besides the Quad match though? I have a bunch of their WWF/E matches on PPV DVDs, although haven't they faced elsewhere several times? Maybe one of those is worth being on a Jericho or Benoit DVD. Okay, the Benoit one may never happen aside from a fan made comp, but still... Bret should have one. If him and Vince ever patch things up, he really needs one. WMXII hasn't been put on DVD, and the closest it has been on DVD otherwise have been on WM history discs, such as the one that came with WM2000. One would think that they would take a look at the recent success of The Ultimate Flair Collection and draw some conclusions. Of course the DVD sold better than any in company history largely because Ric Flair is God. However, the collectors packaging, classic footage and three DVD format are something that really sways buyers like me towards a product. The Shawn Michaels "From the Vault" DVD was a dissappointment and though the Foley and Hogan DVD's had some good footage, I can't help but think that if they didn't put them in such cheap packaging, added one more disk and called them "The Ultimate Hogan/Foley Collection" they could have moved a lot more units even with a higher price tag. Right now with the product being tepid, fans are looking for matches from the "good old days". A Bret Hart collection could sell as well as Flair's did probably and collections for Kurt Angle, Jerry Lawler and Randy Savage would probably be hot sellers too. However, there is one set that I think would be awesome. I guarantee you that a Road Warriors Collection would become the second best selling WWE DVD Set ever produced if they did it properly. Aside from Hogan, Flair and maybe Roddy Piper, there was absolutely nobody as influential in shaping the course of wrestling as the Road Warriors. The duo were arguably the biggest worldwide draws during the 80's. As morbid as it is to say, Hawk's sudden death would boost sales and Animal would be more than willing to take part in the project as evident by his Confidential Appearance. World Wrestling Entertainment now owns the archives of the NWA, WCW and AWA and as the only two wrestlers to ever hold World Championships in all three major American promotions, the possibilities are endless. They might not be the best workers ever, but their matches with the Anderson's, The Midnights, The Steiner's, The Horesemen, The Freebirds, Money Inc. and their feuds during the Monday Night Wars are something I would love to own on DVD format. Georgia stuff especially the angle with Gordon Solie and Don Muraco. Starrcade 83 vs Valentine including footage of the Hammer injuring Piper's ear previously. Piper's Pit. The Snuka feud. The Hogan feud.IC title win. There are a bunch of old school wrestlers that I would love to see comprehensive dvd sets for but most of them won't get it. But Piper's might actually sell. I think a DVD like this would be hot seller. Matches I would put on would be: Dynamite Kid vs Tiger Mask (It is for the WWF Junior Heavyweight title but I am not sure if they own the footage.) Brian Pillman vs Jushin Liger - WCW light Heavyweight title (I belive it was Superbrawl 1 or 2) Chris Benoit vs Eddy Guerrero (Any of their Saturday Night matches) Rey Misterio jr vs Ultimo Dragon - World War 3 Taka Michinoku vs The Great Sasuke - Canadian Stampede Those are just off the top of head but there are many more matches that I would add. Randy Savage deserves a collection! Too bad he was seen as a Hogan lackey though. Best of Sting is more or less what he did vs Flair. Exactly how good was the tag team British Bulldogs? I think Dave Smith vs Brett and Dave Smith vs Owen and the Hart Foundation stuff was good but most of this could be part of the Brett Hart Ultimate collection. After 1986, yes. From 1985-1986, though, they worked GREAT matches with the Hart Foundation regularly. Heck, they dragged Shiek & Volkoff to pretty decent matches.
