Mole 0 Report post Posted January 27, 2004 I am always off on these things, plus I haven't seen 3/4 of these movies. One year I vow to see every movie up for an Oscar nod, I said that this year but it didn't happen. Out of all my guesses for nods, the last pick is the spoiler. The italics are what I think will win. Best Picture Lords of the Rings: Return of the King Cold Mountain Lost in Translation Mystic River 21 Grams Best Actor Jude Law - Cold Mountain Sean Penn - Mystic River Bill Murray - Lost in Translation Russell Crowe - Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World Johnny Depp - Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl Best Actress Nicole Kidman - Cold Mountain Namoi Watts - 21 Grams Charlize Theron - Monster (my sister swears she'll win) Jennifer Connelly - House of Sand and Fog Uma Thurman - Kill Bill Vol 1 Best Supporting Actor Tim Robbins - Mystic River Benicio Del Toro - 21 Grams William H. Macy - Seabiscuit Paul Bettany - Master and Commander: Far Side of the Sea Sean Astin - Lords of the Rings: Return of the King Best Supporting Actress Renee Zellweger - Cold Mountain Marcia Gay Harden - Mystic River Scarlett Johnson - Lost in Translation Holly Hunter - Thirteen Ellen DeGeneres - Finding Nemo Orginal Screenplay 21 Grams Lost in Translation In America Something's Gotta Give Finding Nemo Adapted Screenplay Lord of the Rings: Return of the King Mystic River Master and Commander: Far Side of the World Cold Mountain Seabiscuit Best Director Clint Eastwood - Mystic River Sofia Coppola - Lost in Translation Anthony Minghella - Cold Mountain Peter Jackson - Lord of the Rings: Return of the King Edward Zwixk - The Last Samurai
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted January 27, 2004 Charlize Theron - Monster (my sister swears she'll win) It would be a total surprise if she doesn't. It'll take a miracle for anyone else to win.

spiny norman 0 Report post Posted January 27, 2004 I dunno, I think Scarlett Johnson's performance was not memorable enough for the Academy to give her a nomination.
DMann2003 0 Report post Posted January 27, 2004 I'm betting "In America" gets a Best Picture nod, along with LOTR, Lost in Translation, Mystic River, and Cold Mountain.
MDH257 0 Report post Posted January 27, 2004 Well let's see how I did. I was hoping to get 4 out of 5 in most catagories so I could avg. 80% Best Picture Cold Mountain Lord of the Rings:ROTK Lost in Translation Mystic River Seabiscuit 4/5 I thought the Miramax Oscar machine would carry Cold Mountain. I didn't think there was enough buzz for Master and Commander Best Director Sofia Coppola, Lost in Translation Clint Eastwood, Mystic River Peter Jackson, LOTR:ROTK Anthony Minghella, Cold Mountain Peter Weir, Master and Commander 4/5 See above for why I predicted Minghella. The acadamy likes to give Peter Weir the "nominate the director, but not the picture" slot. I was right about Gary Ross being the Best Picture director who got snubbed. City of God deserved it's nomination. Best Actor Johnny Depp, Pirates of the Caribbean Ben Kingsley, House of Sand and Fog Jude Law, Cold Mountain Bill Murray, Lost in Translation Sean Penn, Mystic River 5/5 Woo Hoo Best Actress Diane Keaton, Something's Gotta Give Nicole Kidman, Cold Mountain Charlize Theron, Monster Naomi Watts, 21 Grams Evan Rachel Wood, Thirteen 3/5 Kiesha Castle-Hughes deserved to get nominated. I didn't think she had a chance because Newmarket Films was campaigning to get her a Best Supporting Actress nod because they thought she had a better shot at that one. In America is great, but I wasn't counting on Samatha Morton. I thought the movie would be overlooked. I would have perfered to have seen the Bolger sisters recognized. Best Supporting Actor Alec Baldwin, The Cooler Benicio Del Toro, 21 Grams Tim Robbins, Mystic River Peter Sarsgaard, Shattered Glass Ken Watanabe, The Last Samurai 4/5 I'm happy with Djimon Honsou (sic) getting nominated, but I didn't see it coming. Best Supporting Actress Maria Bello, The Cooler Patricia Clarkson, Pieces of April Holly Hunter, Thirteen Scarlett Johansson, Lost in Translation Renee Zellweger, Cold Mountain 3/5 I thought they would overlook House of Sand and Fog. I didnt think Maria Gay Harden was showy enough to get nominated. I think Focus Features (Universal) blew it for Scarlett Johansson by campaigning for supporting actress when she was the lead actress in the movie. Best Original Screenplay Bend It Like Beckham Finding Nemo In America Lost in Translation 21 Grams 3/5 Dirty Pretty Things was nominated at the Writer's Guild awards, so I probably shouldn't be supprised. I was supprised to see 21 Grams get snubbed here. Best Adapted Screenplay American Splendor Cold Mountain Lord of the Rings:ROTK Mystic River Seabiscuit 4/5 City of God deserverd it's nominaions. Total 30/40 75% (oh well).
