Guest KidKrash Report post Posted January 27, 2004 How many times can one fuck up in a match? Holy shit. Still not as bad as Hurricane's performance one week but I thought Orton was finally improving. He fell on his ass when he missed the RKO by a mile then immediately repeated the spot. At one point he just cartwheeled out of the corner it seemed. I even thought he had heat tonight when Bischoff mentioned his name but I guess it was more for Bischoff because later it disappeared. Orton bumps really well so I think they should turn him into a Shawn Michaels type face. He looks like he'd do much better in that role.

Guest wrestlingbs Report post Posted January 27, 2004 I'm still not giving up on Orton. I know the guy's green, and that was a pretty big mistake. However, I think the guy gets a lot of undeserved grief because HHH has given him such an enormous push. On his own, and I think he's shown some of this, the guy can cut great promos and is better than a lot of people in the ring. I'm not saying he deserves this monster push, but I think he does deserve the chance.

Do you want more HHH-uh sux-uh or Angle should retire topics? Maybe the Mods could make an OAO Orton sux thread and merge all of these together.

If you didn't notice I thought that he was improving and that he had heat but he blew it. I even point out a strength at the end. It's certainly not "OMG Orton sucks LOL" type material. Guest Deebo Report post Posted January 27, 2004 I just keep thinking back to Summerslam 2001, where Chris Jericho had two big fucked up spots in the match against Rhyno that were his fault. Does Jericho suck? No, the point is, fuck ups happen. Deal with it, Orton isn't the only guy to ever blow a spot in a match.

If you didn't notice I thought that he was improving and that he had heat but he blew it. I even point out a strength at the end. It's certainly not "OMG Orton sucks LOL" type material. That might work and would probably put him over. Actually they dropped the ball and could have made him to be stronger but he was only used to hype Foley's return. Of course god help us all if they actually try and turn him into an HBK-style face, because we'd never hear the end of the "OMG they're shoving him down our throats!" rants, even if he did by some miracle turn into the next bumper like HBK. Just call me Dan 0 Report post Posted January 27, 2004 Take a look at how it should have been done by watching the 2nd time. You can see Jericho lets go of Batista's legs in order to try and encounter the oncoming Orton. It was a mistiming on both parts. Jericho had the hold in completely and there was no way he could get into ANY kind of position to be pulled down the opposite way to his face. He was supposed to let go and meet Orton head on the FIRST time, but probably just didn't see him coming. I don't really put any blame on either guy, as shit happens sometimes, and I fail to see why any gloating on how Orton has always sucked or plodding along about how all his momentm is now dead is really necessary. Because Orton hasn't been in a great match yet doesn't mean he never will, does it?

I've been in too many arguments like this where we just go about posting our respective thoughts on certain matches, and it ends up being a pointless compare and contrast which all the while boils down to just "it's my opinion". I said my piece. So be it.

Adam 0 Report post Posted January 27, 2004 I'd compare him to Rocky circa early '97, and even though all of you have said it before, I'm weighing my 2 cents into the arguement. He's been pushed down our throats too much too quickly. To all those who think that he has 'the look', well, that may very well be (work with me here AS). BUT, his in-ring work needs to improve OUT OF SIGHT, he needs to stop sounding like a pissed off 20 year old guy that just got into a fight in a nightclub, because he just doesn't sound convincingly bad. Plus, they are handling his IC run all wrong. Instead of chasing after Foley (who could be giving the rub to someone a fuckload better), he could be having credible **+ IC Title matches every week, regularly getting up to *** or ***1/2. Christ, build someone up like Hurricane as a title threat, even pair him with Christian or Matt Hardy. It would further his career, and his reputation, if he planned out matches with guys like them, and they ended up being good matches.

Plus, they are handling his IC run all wrong. Sometimes in promos, Randy Orton seems like he's trying too hard, and that's the only REAL problem I see with him. Obviously, he needs improving in the ring, anyone at his stage in the game WOULD need improving, and that comes in time. As for the look, if he started to look serious, it would help. He always looks cocky and it isn't really working for him. Pairing Randy Orton with Mick Foley could help with his match planning. I don't think that you can deny that Foley can carry a good match, and it doesn't matter if it's a brawl or whatever, but he has the planning which Randy Orton can learn from and if they work it right, Orton WILL go over. If they do it wrong, Orton will take ALL the blame ( even though everything is WWE's fault apart from Orton's push apparently, which is ALL his fault ) and won't be anymore over. With Benoit on RAW as well, that COULD help Orton as well.
muzz 0 Report post Posted January 27, 2004 For Orton to improve at all, he needs to lose Evolution. Right now, he's just a lackey, even if they are trying to build him as something bigger. Losing the name 'Randy' would help. I just can't take him seriously. Shit, make him Rowdy Randy Rorton or Triple R.
