I've got 40 bucks to spend, and last time I went, I saw a Destroying America/The End DVD two pack for 20 bucks, so I'm getting that, but with the other half of the money, i'm undecided. Help a brotha out.

Cure's Disintegration is the best on that list.

I also reccomend -

Jeff Buckley - Grace

Phantom Planet - s/t

CSNY - So Far

Neil Young - Greendale

Audiovent - Dirty Sexy Knights in Parid

David Bowie - The Deram Anthology

I'd say that anything aside of the Ryan Adams will serve you well, and maybe even the Adams stuff... I just haven't heard that.

As for other stuff... maybe Bloodletting by Concrete Blonde? I got that at the same time as Disintegration, and loved 'em both.

Slanted & Enchanted- Pavement

Get the expanded edition, Luxe & Redux. It's about the same price as a regular CD.

Others to check out:

Wu Tang Clan - 36 Chambers

The Flaming Lips - The Soft Bulletin

Red House Painters - Old Ramon

Bob Dylan - Bringing It All Back Home

Nas - Illmatic

These are albums that have been getting heavy rotation in my CD player lately.

Guest Agent of Oblivion

Captain Beefheart-Trout Mask Replica. This cd makes you different somehow.

Regardless of whether you pick that one or not, do NOT get Ryan Adams' album. It's terrible.

I'm a huge Adams mark, and even I cannot defend that album.

If you really want to hear Adams at his best, pick up Heartbreaker, or, if they carry it, check out Whiskeytown, an alt/country band that he fronted...specifically, check out Pneumonia.

Personally, I'd look into dredg's "el cielo" if you havent. Musical beauty.

Another CD I recommend, along those lines, is Black Rebel Motorcycle Club's first CD. I'm not sure about "Take Them On, On Your Own", seeing as I dont own it, but the first CD is plenty good.

And...yeah. that's it for me.

Wire's Pink Flag. Fuck the Sex Pistols, Wire made the best British punk album.

London Calling, bitch.

London Calling is a great rock record. Pink Flag is a great punk record.

And though they certainly had punk spirit, outside of their first album, I really wouldn't call The Clash's music "punk."

EDIT: Oh, shit. I hope this doesn't get me into an argument about "what is punk." The subject interests me very little.

Fair enough. That genre classification is touchy. Both are great albums, though.

And to apply such a narrow and limiting term as "punk" to London Calling is to do it a disservice. It encompasses so many genres and styles, that calling it a rock record is the only thing that will suffice. A great rock record, too, natch.

Well, I got "Disintigration" AND "Heartbreaker" (some stupid bastard snaked my copy of Destroying America/The End...bastard)

Both are quite damn good. Ryan Adams is a lot better than everyone says he is, so I might have to check out Whiskeytown, and maybe, Rock N Roll.

and about Dredg: Those guys are actually from my town, and i've heard quite a bit of their stuff. Unfortunately, none of it has really peaked my interest. Thanks anyway.
