I don't know a single "mark" that doesn't LOVE Chris Benoit.

Same here. I remember he was especially loved by "marks" during his feuds with DDP and Booker T. Not to mention when the Radicals arrived.

Seriously, and maybe it's just because I live in an area that loves oldschool wrestling, but everyone that I know has loved Chris Benoit the moment he first showed up in WCW (few people around here could get ECW, etc...). I remember when I first saw the guy years ago, I said to my brother that two things will happen to this guy in the industry. The first thing I said was that he will be a world champion somewhere someday, and I also said that as soon as it's possible, he'll be a member of The Four Horsmen.

I dunno, everyone around here just love him.

He's not a superstar.

Isn't "superstar" just what the WWF calls its wrestlers because they can't be called wrestlers technically and calling them entertainers is just retarded?

Its not like he was the only one who didnt get a massive reaction from the fans. Stone Cold was the only one. Micheals and Foley were less than usual. Booker T got nothing, not even when he did the spinaroonie. Benoit was allright. Im sure theres a difference between the Smackdown/Raw crowds. When you've got a show with a bunch of proper wrestlers of course the fans are gonna cheer the one who wrestles the best. And thats what happened with Benoit on Smackdown. When the Raw crowds get to see how great Benoit is in the ring then he'll start getting the proper reactions. Of course other things will matter too like the storyline and booking but with Benoit its the wrestling. What im wonderin is, next week, will Mark Henry wear a cast/arm sling to sell the 'Arm out of the socket'?

Maybe I influence people around me but everyone around me is a fan of Benoit. There's not one person that doesn't like him. Casual, casual to hardcore and people that aren't even watching anymore. However, those people that "don't watch anymore" will stick around for a Benoit match.

Yeah like all of my friends love Benoit and I am talking about the friends who watched wrestling during the late 90's when it was cool to do. They all are going nuts about Benoit and Eddie Guerrero getting title shots.

Benoit's heat has gotten sucked in by the "HHH is Raw" vacuum. In all seriousness, I think fans have no clue why Benoit is on Raw, and the WWE have not helped in explaining his defection from Smackdown.

Is THAT why RAW matches usually get more heat then SD! ones on the shared PPVs?

It was the other way around for the end of 2002. But ever since Royal Rumble 2003 (where Benoit/Angle smoked HHH/Steiner), Smackdown has generally been treated like the junior partner and is often stuck putting guys who don't belong in high profile matches (McMahons, Cena in Early 2003, Hardcore Holly, Zack Gowan).

Yeah, WWE got really protective over the collective heat of the Raw brand itself after SD! stole about 6 combined shows in a row. Thus, they put totally stupid SD! matches together and focused mainly of Raw.

Oh bullshit.

Chris Benoit has all the personality of a room full of Linda McMahons, maybe that's why the casual fan is bored shitless by him. It has nothing to do with Triple H.

Booking Benoit as, as someone up there put it, a violent wrestling machine that does zero talk and just rips people to shreds is the only way they have any hope in hell of drawing a decent buyrate for WMXX (considering they are actually going to run with Benoit in the main event).

But for God's sake, leave the guy off the mic.

The only negative comment I've heard from casual fans I know is that "Benoit doesn't have great mic skills." Unfortunately, that's the reason that guy doesn't want Benoit in the main event.

But that's one guy out of...hell, at least ten I work with, plus who knows how many others.
