This is why they shouldn't be called All Star games, because the best players don't always play.

Sports Writers should vote in the starters

Coaches should pick out most of the reserves

Let the fans vote in each teams 11th and 12th men

I'm getting so sick and tired of seeing the starting line-ups be an injured reserve list

Lets look at a little more than points and boards

Kirilenko

16.3 pts 7.9 boards 3.3 assists 44 3pts 2.07 steals 2.8 blocks

Randolph

21.5 points 11.0 boards 2.3 assists 0 3pts .83 steals .5 blocks

I wouldn't complain if Randolph went over Kirilenko. A case could be made either way, but to throw 21/11 to 16/8 out there with out bringing up the assists, threes, steals and blocks is not right.

I can't see how they would leave James out of the game. He's having probably the best year any rookie's had in ages and is a ratings grabber. If I was Stern, I would have made the coach of the East take him. The NBA has really gone down over the past few years in my opinion, and it's because of things like not including the most talked about player in your league in the All STAR Game. Right now, there aren't many bigger stars in the game.

I'm shocked LeBron wasn't voted a starter because ESPN keeps telling me he's the biggest name in basketball now. If the fans wanted him there he would have been voted in but he wasn't so boo hoo he'll get plenty of opportunites in the future. The East is incredibly guard heavy and that's why he didn't make it. I actually do think the above scenerio of Stern forcing LeBron on the team will happen after a bunch of phony media outrage, a la the Roger Clemens fiasco with the MLB All-Star Game last year.

Yes Tim Duncan was a rookie ages ago.

Lebron will have plenty of All Star games in the next 15 years, let em sit for a year and get Michael Redd a spot. He deserves it. Lebron most likely got left off so they can have him for the Rookie Game. Or so the conspiracy says.

I'm quite shocked Zach Randolph will be sitting at home on that night. He's playing some amazing ball and I'd agree with his selection over AK 47 who is having a damn good year in his own right. Although honestly, they should both probably be there, Ray Allen and Shaq have no business being there. They just haven't put in enough games IMO and you could easily just list Randolph as your center instead of forward. Or give Brad Miller center duties and shift Randolph to forward.

But yeah, overall, outside of some of the western conference selections, I'm not bothered by any of it.

Shaq was picked to the team simply because he is Shaq.

Ray Allen making the team is the coaches proving to all of us that it's not just the fans who look at scoring and only scoring when judging a player's ability. See also: Davis, Baron.

I say drop them and go with Randolph and Andre Miller.

Are Shaq, Jermaine O'Neal, Kobe Bryant even healthy enough to play?

Shaq only missed the Indy game because he was suspended.

Kobe only cut his finger and should only miss the minimum number required for being on the list.

Don't know about JO, but a strained neck doesn't *sound* bad, and he hasn't been put on the IL, so he should be okay, too.

I wished they didn't pick the All-Stars in the form of 2 C's, 5 forward's and 5 guards or whatever, but instead pick the best 12 players from each conference. Then they could have an East team filled with guards vs. a West team full of centers and power forwards. It would be fun watching Shaq rough up Jason Kidd in the center position and then Stephon Marbury breaking Yao Ming's ankles in the point guard position.

or the west could just put in this lineup for shits and giggles:

PG: Kevin Garnett

SG: Dirk Nowitski

SF: Tim Duncan

PF: Shaquille O'Neal

C: Yao Ming

who would the east fucking put in if that was the starting lineup

Dear God. The east would get clobbered. It would be cool to see something like that during the all star game just for hte hell of it.

A starting line up of 7 footers? What if the East started:

Paul Pierce

Pau Gasol

Shareef Abdul Rhim

Ben Wallace

Jermaine O'Neal

Gasol's on the West so he can't be in that Eastern lineup. I seem to remember in last year's All-Star game, the West at one point put a lineup of 4 centers and 1 point guard in the game. I can't remember which players specifically, but I think it was Nash, Shaq, Yao, Duncan and Webber maybe was the last one. Dirk Nowitzki said that he wanted to replace Nash in that and run the point for that lineup. Now THAT would be awesome to see.

This year, they could do Yao at center, Shaq and PF, Duncan at SF, Dirk and Brad Miller could share the guard positions.

those guys would still get fucked since none of the other than JO are 7- Footers, and he is the only one as skilled as Shaq, KG, Dirk, or Timmy D.

As a Portland fan I would have liked to see Zach Randolph in there, though i guess he'll make plenty of All-Star games in the future, especially with Rasheed Wallace a lock to be gone next year at the latest.

I would take Elton Brand over both

Brand

20.1 pts 12 boards 3.6 assists .76 steals 2.24 blocks

No big deal though, Elton would have been in if he didn't miss 13 games at the beginning of the year.

And if Kobe goes to the Clips next year, Elton Brand will never miss an All-Star game ever again.

On NBA 2K3, I did an All-Star lineup of Nowitski, Garnett, Duncan and Shaq, with I think Kobe at PG. So no one on the court was shorter than 6-7. I was dominating.

Seeing as the East has better guards than the West, I'd like to see a lineup of Iverson, Baron Davis, Jason Kidd and T-Mac, with Ben Wallace playing D. That's be the quickest lineup; just a track meet all game.

Last year didn't they have Duncan, Garnett, Shaq and Yao on the court with Steve Francis at the point? I know the coach (forgive me, I'm a bit brain dead ATM and can't recall who it was) was going to try to give it a shot.

BTW I'm a huge Houston homer but Steve Francis doesn't belong on the team this year. This is the worst year he's had EVER statistically, and his little stunt missing the team flight so he could watch the Super Bowl show that he's not the team leader he's supposed to be. Sorry Steve but that $85 million contract should come with some personal and professional responsibility. Boot him and put in Nash or someone.
