Jobber question

Recommended Posts

http://www.wrestlecrap.com/jotw.html

After reading this about Mick Foley and his first few jobber matches, it got me wondering...one, was this normal treatment of jobbers back in the day? Or were Davey and Dynamite known as being super-stiff to work with?

And that brings up the next question...who is your favorite jobber of all time? :)

I was a big Barry O fan. His intros would go like this:

Fink: This contest is scheduled for one fall. In the ring from Las Vegas, Nevada, weighing . . .

(O barks something at Fink)

Fink: From the FABULOUS Las Vegas, Nevada, weighing 245 pounds, Barry O!

(O makes the 'O' gesture with his arms)

And yes, I believe Dynamite was always a super stiffy.

In 1996, my favorite jobber was Matt Hardy.

Amazing that Mick doesn't look too different then from now

What I find especially strange though it his sporting a goatee in '86 (pretty rare for the time)

Back when Regal dominated the WCW TV belt in 93-94, I saw Mark Starr take Regal to a time-limit draw. For a jobber, that was a big deal and I always expected Starr to eventually take the belt or at least continue the success he had there.

Other than that, and I know he wasn't always a jobber but he was when I started watching, I'd go with Jim Powers. Always thought he had a good look and could work off both speed and power.

"The Duke of Dorchester" Pete Doherty.

He worked most of the New England house shows, and I remember Lord Alfred Hayes making a huge deal about his one match winning streak...nearly three years after he'd had it.

He even did a brief run as color commentator with Bruce Prichard and Mike McGuirk on some house shows in 1987/88.

I say to this day that one of the best matches I ever saw was Powers vs. Paul Roma from right after they broke up as the Young Stallions on Prime Time.

A friend of mine has a tape of random stuff from the summer of 1993 WWF. One is a match with the Headshrinkers vs. Aaron Ferguson and PJ Walker. Walker is Justin Credible today. The 'Shrinkers knock Walker's ass out, toss him to the apron and then drag Ferguson in. Ferguson gets his ass kicked and tries to tag out, but Walker is still laying out cold on the apron. Hilarious.

I also have to tip the top hat to SD Jones, the Gambler, Barry Horowitz, Iron Mike Sharpe, the Mulkey Brothers, Jake the Milkman Milliman, Dusty Wolfe and Tim Horner.

I think Mick said something in his book how the Bulldogs just too exception to him trying to get some offense in and wanted to teach him the ways of the wrestling world. But yeah, I heard that Dynamite was usually stiff especially with younger workers.

Jumpin Jim Brunzell was one of my favourites, i honestly used to believe he'd win a match because he had a great dropkick.

I once saw Andre The Giant win a handicap match against Tito Santana and a jobber and seeing Tito treated like that was terrible.

The Match in Question is Andre v. Tito & Jim Powers. At least Tito didn't job for the fall lol

I was also a big Mark Starr mark. I saw a match vs. Regal (probably not the same match) on Worldwide where Regal defeated Starr after much trouble. I don't think they bothered with the time limit because it was non title. Boy, Regal was winded during his post match interview.

As for the Headshrinkers, I have no idea what match it is, but I love the clip where one of them comes off the top and splashes a jobber . . . who is on the arena floor! Brutal stuff!

I remember Iron Mike Sharpe, Tom Stone, Horowitz, Steve Lombardi, Louie Spicolli, Conquisidors, Red Tyler, Reno Riggins,Jim Powers, Kerry Davis and Jason Knight from the WWF 1987-93

Chic Donovan, Hartford Hart, Bill Irwin, Adrian Byrd, Hard body Harris, Horowitz, Tanaka from WCW in the mid-late 90's.

I remember Jake the milkman's push during the AWA Team Challenge series, He earned points for lasting 5 mins with the Russian Brute, then Larry Zybysko cut a promo declaring him a "hero" or something.
