Bored 0 Report post Posted February 11, 2004 http://www.usatoday.com/sports/columnist/m...0-martzke_x.htm Max Kellerman and ESPN have parted ways. ESPN vice president Mike Soltys said the cable network notified the agent of the former Around the Horn host and boxing analyst, whose contract expired, that it will not match an offer from another network. Kellerman, who sought an increase to about $850,000 annually, might wind up at Fox Sports Net in a multifaceted deal that could include the entertainment industry. Cartman 0 Report post Posted February 11, 2004 Well that sucks. I actually grew to love ATH with him.
Guest Ghettoman Report post Posted February 11, 2004 Well I won't be watching ATH anymore, unless they get someone other than Stat Boy, who sucks.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted February 11, 2004 It sucks as he was the one guy there knowledgable about boxing.
Guest OctoberBlood Report post Posted February 11, 2004 Heh. ESPN continues to grow more shittier ever day. Lovely.
The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted February 11, 2004 I hated Kellerman on ATH...but I liked him on the boxing. I actually prefer statboy on ATH...who I find far less annoying.
Sandman9000 0 Report post Posted February 11, 2004 So, Kellerman wanted an increase to 850K, so I'm guessing he was earning between 500K-600K before that.... THERE'S my incentive one of the most cutthroat industries in the world.
Guest Olympic Slam Report post Posted February 11, 2004 Thank God! It's because of that rat faced idiot that almost all sports related commentary has been reduced to who can yell the loudest or have the cheesiest gimmick. Stat Boy is a huge improvement. Guest Krazy Karter Report post Posted February 11, 2004 He's a good boxing analyst. ATH sucked.
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted February 11, 2004 ATH might get cancelled sooner rather than later. Which sucks cause Woody Paige and Michael Holley are gods while Bill Morality thinks he can hug god.
the max 0 Report post Posted February 11, 2004 I don't understand why people like Woody Paige. He seems like the type of person that you keep around just to laugh at.
Guest Smues Report post Posted February 11, 2004 It sucks because I just know the show will be cancelled soon, or given a crappy host. (I don't think Stat Boy will be the permenant host, although he'd do fine if they choose to keep him). Other than that though, I hated Kellerman and I'm glad he's gone. Hopefully if the show does stay on the air whoever hosts it isn't so damned biased for New York, and Bill Plaske. Make Woody the host, now THAT could be interesting. Guest Redhawk Report post Posted February 11, 2004 Damn, I liked Max. He was great on boxing and I actually liked ATH as much as PTI. Funny, I was just wondering what had happened to him, because they didn't say he was on vacation or anything.
Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted February 11, 2004 ATH just seemed like PTI light. Although I did like hearing him talk about boxing. But wanting an $850k increase? You gotta wonder how much he was making before this.
Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted February 12, 2004 ATH sucks. A bunch of crappy sports journalist given points on whether or not they can agree with the hosts point of view? Fuck that PTI is where its at.
Guest Krazy Karter Report post Posted February 12, 2004 PTI is where its at. Word.
Guest OctoberBlood Report post Posted February 12, 2004 No. PTI and ATH sucks. Most of those guys on both shows know almost nothing about many topics. They may be experts in football, but they don't know shit in just about everything else. Both shows were decent at the beginning, but they are terribly old and awful. Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2004 While I like PTI, they sound like such asses when talking about UFC and NHB cause they think they have it all figured out and are really clueless to the whole thing.
razazteca 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2004 Now if only Fox Sports can get a deal with UFC and have Max Kellerman host it. The Best Damn Sport Show Period should dump Rose and replace him with Kellerman.
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2004 Now if only Fox Sports can get a deal with UFC and have Max Kellerman host it. The Best Damn Sport Show Period should dump Rose and replace him with Kellerman. Agreed. Rose should be shot out of a cannon for being really crappy at his job. The guy has NEVER been good and he gave up the last ounce of shame he had when he announced that Celebrity Boxing.
the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2004 Funny you say that raz, as over on the Sherdog MB (MMA boards) they had rumors flying around that Kellerman was in talks to host a potential Spike TV UFC show.
kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2004 I find ATH and PTI to be guiilty pleasures -- Max grew on me from when I started watching it until now. Then again, so does cancer...
razazteca 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2004 Why can't ESPN just have Woody Paige and Jay Marotti as regular guests on PTI and make the show an hour? Or better yet put Jim Rose on at 4:00.
kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2004 Do you mean Jim Rome? And whatever happened to that show?...
Your Paragon of Virtue 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2004 We all know that Fox Sports has been working on some sort of deal with the UFC, and perhaps Max will be used. That's what I've heard "around the horn" anyway (HA!). Truth be told, unlike the PTI guys, Max is pretty knowledgeable in MMA and supportive of it as a sport, so he would work. I still love PTI though. It's not like MMA is ever discussed.
Tony149 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2004 (edited) Do you mean Jim Rome? And whatever happened to that show?... It airs Tuesday nights after the 11 p.m. eastern SportsCenter. I think its because of basketball. As for ATH, Stat Boy doesn't seem too comfortable hosting the show if you ask me. Maybe that'll change with more shows he gets under his belt. He's better on PTI though. What about Norman Chad as new host? Chris Myers? Roy Firestone? Edited February 12, 2004 by Tony149
Slovakia 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2004 I hope Woody and Jay stick around...THE HOOOOOOOOOOORN! Sorry had to do it. I really do like the ATH crew, even Max, even the Disemboweled Voice. My fear is that if it does stick around, it'll get bastardized with new cities that suck (I can see Dan LeBetard from Miami coming in) and losing the stuff that made it fun to watch (i.e. Woody and Jay.) And I think Jay and Max had some ESPN Radio show on the weekends, that could affect things. Maybe just merge the two shows and have Woody and Jay appear on a 60-minute PTI. Who knows. NYU 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2004 Stat Boy just seems to lack the charisma needed to host a show like "Around the Horn." Say what you want about Kellerman being an assertive asshole and all that, but he KNEW how to be entertaining and how to keep a show like that in order. Every episode I've seen of ATH since Stat Boy has started consists of Paige and Mariotti shouting to talk over him, and Stat Boy taking it with a smile on his face. That's not how you run a show like ATH. Plus, it just seems to annoy me that he has the tendency to give a guy 6, 8, one time 10 points on one turn. What the hell is the rush? This might all be stuff that can be fixed as the weeks go on. But it just seems to me that Kellerman's natural charisma was a perfect fit for the show, and a perfect catalyst for the normal journalists that appear. Stat Boy is much better suited for a 1-minute spot on PTI where he reads off a sheet of paper and isn't needed to CONTROL a half-hour show. -Oh, and yes, it's quite obvious PTI is worlds better than ATH. Guest Deebo Report post Posted February 12, 2004 ATH is making a killing in the ratings, so it won't be going anywhere. Max Kellerman is a fucking annoying prick and I'm glad he's gone. People watch that show because of Woody f'n Paige, not Ratboy.
