razazteca 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2004 ATH is making a killing in the ratings, so it won't be going anywhere. Max Kellerman is a fucking annoying prick and I'm glad he's gone. People watch that show because of Woody f'n Paige, not Ratboy. People watch ATH to laugh at Max's beard. Around the HORN Was all about Woody, Jay, Bill Plashski. As for a host replacement I think the best would be the guy who does those football bets with his wife. He is as good as anybody else plus the fact that he is an actor/comedian. Rob E Dangerously 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2004 the combination of Norman Chad, Dan LeBatard and That Chick during the summer on PTI was god-awful. Let Mike Tyson host Around the Horn
Gert T 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2004 If I remember correctly from a ESPN Radio spot Nick Bakkay is a co-writer for a CBS sitcom (don't remember which one for sure so I won't guess), so it may be tough for him to juggle all of that. Bakkay may not be a bad choice though. One of the best ATH moments had to be before the SB when Holley and Woody were in the showdown and were picking the winner of the Super Bowl. Holley had taken the Pats, and Woody taking the Panthers due to their experience of winning in Houston earlier in the year, which Holley politely reminded him that they lost. I just think Woody is too over the top to be the host.

Guest sean pyro Report post Posted February 12, 2004 We all know that Fox Sports has been working on some sort of deal with the UFC, and perhaps Max will be used. That's what I've heard "around the horn" anyway (HA!). Truth be told, unlike the PTI guys, Max is pretty knowledgeable in MMA and supportive of it as a sport, so he would work. I still love PTI though. It's not like MMA is ever discussed. From my understanding ESPN is getting away from Boxing slowly but surely, cutting down the number of Friday Night Fights and taking Tuesday Night Fights right off the air. But Kellerman really didn't understand MMA, anytime he was questioned on MMA he would always make some cornball bias reply. He's the one who used to call it human cock fighting, he's the one who said Klitschko could beat Couture with little or no training, he's the one who thought K-1 didn't wear gloves and allowed bitting and nutshots. Kellerman knows Boxing like the back of his hand but thats about it, other than that he's an average sports fan at the most. Just watch Around The Horn, dude never says anything a fan who reads the sports page or a few internet columns wouldn't know. And odds are only thing that will happen is Fox will put him on Best Damn Sports Show (horrible fucking show) and maybe co-host Box-On-Fox, which is shitty too. Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2004 Give Stat Boy some time to get use to hosting the show. He's not assertive enough, and gives away too many points.
converge241 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2004 jeez i was in the dark on this one thought he was just on vacation (when stat boy usually just fills in) why the heck is his picture still in the gold medal for face time?!? stat boy gets a big boner for everyone and that boner rests on the points button max used to top out at like 2 point increases per "scpiel" stat boy reali hits the thing 5 times during every statement so we get 50 and 60 point totals and some of the topics drag on forever now..all due to Stat boy he even wastes a lot of time for the big finish by going on and on and on during PTI's errors and omissions too bad i liek most of the panelists on "horn" otherwise id just watch that espnnews show thats on around the same time the hot list or whatever with the top 10 stories kellerman could be kind of annoying but he looks a lot better now in comparison
Guest Salacious Crumb Report post Posted February 12, 2004 Kellerman was beyond annoying by the time the show ended. He muted way too often and it turned into him just muting someone if they were saying something he didn't like. That wasn't the point of the mute button. Kellerman was also starting to make the rules up as he went along and it was really getting irritating. Stat Boy at least understands that people are not watching the show for him, something Kellerman really needed to learn.

Then again, like Vern said, I'll give Stat Fag a little while to host the show before I really compare him to Max. Kellerman didn't seem to know what the fuck he was talking about unless it was boxing. By that assumption, *I* could host ATH as (at least I like to think) I know a lot about basketball, and JUST enough about the other major sports to get away with hosting that show. On the other hand, Stat Fag doesn't really know about ANY sport and seems to just be trying to emulate Kellerman so far.
converge241 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2004 i dont agree in giving him time because he guest hosted a few times before so he should already be acclimated with the show i shouldnt harp too much about the points themselves cause they dont really "matter" its more that they keep blabbing cause instead of sta boy cutting them off they are like "hey im getting more points so ill go on and on and on" monday or tuesday he spent like 3 minutes getting woody to say something stupid just so he could mute him at the beginning and im like "MOTHER F*CKER! we need to start talking about clarrett (or whatever the big story that day was)" can we get disembodied voice to host it? LOL and could they please dump the J-LO/Flahdance thing before commercial break?? that thing gets played at least 4 times a week on the outro to commercial and she doesnt even look her best in that
alfdogg 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2004 (edited) I take it back, get rid of him. I just remembered he allowed a guy who said Shaq was the greatest player in NBA history to make the showdown. He clearly doesn't know what he's doing. EDIT: spelling Edited February 12, 2004 by alfdogg
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2004 When Woody and Holley get eliminated, I change the channel. When Woody pays attention, he makes good points even ones that are unpopular which in turn get him muted. As for the host, I don't think it matters too much at this point. Let Wilbon host once or twice to see if he can handle it, he seems like he would love to punch a button and mute some people. They will more than likely just leave Stat Boy on but if I don't see Woody or Michael, it's clicker time.
Guest Redhawk Report post Posted February 17, 2004 Let Mike Tyson host Around the Horn Mike: "Buy or sell the Knicks as the best team in the NFL." Jay: "Uh, Mike, don't you mean NBA?" Mike: "Shut the f*** up, b****. I'll kick your f***ing a**, you ho." (MIke gives Jay two points.)

Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted February 17, 2004 Ghey. Kellerman was my favorite guy on ESPN, since he was best when talking boxing, which is my favorite sport. He also tends to not like sports I also don't care for, and he was abraisive. I'll have to look for him on Fox Sports or where ever he ends up. Personally, I'd like to see him go to HBO boxing, to make up for the dry Larry Merchant, goof-ass in the middle, and old Gawge. That crew could use some fiery statistical knowhow, as well as another strong opinion.

snuffbox 0 Report post Posted February 21, 2004 Fightnews.com has confirmed that Kellerman is going to FoxSports. He will do a number of their programs as well as replace Rich Morrotta on Sunday Night Fights. He will work with the great Barry Tompkins(who called many great fights of the 70s and 80s). Is the Wood-ster on vacation or something? I would not want him as the host though -- it'd take an entire segment for him just to say what the topic on hand was about... The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted February 22, 2004 I really can't stand Michael Holley. I don't like his piercings, his lisp, his biases, anything. Also, Max was notorious for giving the Boston Globe waayyyy too many points. Bob Ryan even moreso than Michael.
Guest Redhawk Report post Posted February 22, 2004 Bob Ryan has "legend" status within the sports journalism business, though, so Max or Stat Boy or anyone younger than Ryan who's hosting that show will always give him a ton of points just out of respect/reverance. Even when Ryan is on PTI the co-host always hypes him up a good deal.
