Anya 0 Report post Posted June 22, 2004 Just for a change of pace I'm playing MK3 for Genesis now. God it's awful. Everything about it is terrible. The gameplay is off, it looks horrible, the sound is distorted and they cut a bunch of corners with the presentation. The Pit III fatality is just embarassing to watch. But 10 years ago stuff like this was hyped as a great port and near arcade perfect. It's funny how things have changed in the fighting game community. Like now if there is anything even remotely wrong with a port it's RUINED. Just one thing and everyone will relentlessly rip it to shreds. Especially in the SNK community, where the hardcore fans want to put the Neo over as much as they can. It seems like as time goes on more and more MK fans, especially younger ones, have never even played the arcade versions. Their only memories and knowledge of the classic games is in the crappy 16 bit ports. It's especially sad when it's something like UMK3, which had beyond awful 16 bit versions. Arcade UMK3 is just lightyears ahead of the 16 bit conversions. The other day I saw someone who didn't know MK1 had blood, because they had only played the SNES version! That's just depressing. Midway Arcade Treasures 2 is going to be awesome. I have a feeling they'll somehow screw it up though, even just a little, and they won't really be arcade pefect. Guest The Last Free Voice Report post Posted June 22, 2004 how the FUCK do i beat Tsung on the SNES verson of MKII? FUCK. I'm on SUPER FUCKING EASY. FUCK. Sorry, not in a good mood.
Use Your Illusion 0 Report post Posted June 23, 2004 Super easy!? I used to play as Sub-Zero on that difficulty level when I was 9 years old and won the whole damn thing with ye olde 'freeze-jump-uppercut'.
Anya 0 Report post Posted June 23, 2004 Shang is the easiest of the bosses in MK II. Though he's followed by Kintaro, who is the hardest sub boss ever.
Guest The Last Free Voice Report post Posted June 23, 2004 yes super easy. I have no video gaming ability. And Tsung keeps killing me with a fireball for whatever way I try. Jumping kicks wont work, uppercuts get thrown, legsweeps wont work. I think I just suck at the game.
Guest Beingz0wningj00 Report post Posted June 23, 2004 Normally situations like that come when you continuously try jumping attacks. Try and use a more combo based attack while keeping good control of the blocking.
Guest The Last Free Voice Report post Posted June 23, 2004 Ok. I'll try that. I think my problem is i just really suck at fighting games. Plus i don't know any special moves or combos.... I think i need to do a little more research before I play again.
DangerousDamon 0 Report post Posted June 23, 2004 When I first beat MK II for the Genesis, back when I was like 8(it was on Easy AND I had the cheat for a shitload of kontinues but I was 8 and my video game skills hadn't quite kicked in yet) I would just throw the fireball with Johnny Cage, leg sweep like crazy, and hope they wouldn't block all that whip my ass. It worked like 25 percent of the time, but hey, I had a shitload of kontinues.
Guest The Last Free Voice Report post Posted June 25, 2004 Today I lucked out and my mom got a copy of MKDA for the PS2 for FREE! She joined some thing at a video store. I unlocked Quan Chi on my second Koffin.
Guest The Last Free Voice Report post Posted June 29, 2004 wow, i'm not bad at this one. I beat it with Scorpion and Sonya already. HOw do you unlock the other characters?
Guest Coffey Report post Posted June 29, 2004 The AI on MK2 is tricky. They use a lot of ESP, so it's hard to fight them with a real strat. Just get a cheesy victory over everyone if you're just trying to beat it. For example, if you jump away from your opponents, they will jump after you...unless the game is set on highest difficulty in which case they throw projectiles. So duck and wait for Tsung to get fairly close, then jump away. He'll jump after you, but you've already landed so you can roundhouse kick him. Then just repeat over and over until he is dead. Use Your Illusion 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2004 All characters are unlocked in The Krypt. Check out GameFAQs.com for some guides as to what Koffins you should save up for first. Two hidden characters require you to complete Konquest mode, however these two are only worth going after once you've done everything else. Again, check around for some guides for all the details. Sweet they're starting to release newer (as opposed to Pac Man I mean) arcade games in the plug and play style. Give us WWF Wrestlefest!!
Ted the Poster 0 Report post Posted July 9, 2004 Oh man, plug-and-play Wrestlefest would be one of the greatest things EVER. Nightwolf using dual hatchets is sweet. If Kabal uses his metal hooks in a Fatality this time I, and probably many others, will be extremely happy. Smoke's model is very, very badass. That effect is fucking excellent. Did anybody else notice the detail in that blond guy? If that's a story mode creation then... wow. I just got a lot more anxious about getting this game. Guest Beingz0wningj00 Report post Posted July 17, 2004 I for one am pretty stoked about this game coming out. Too stoked that I have since bought Deadly Alliance for an X-Box I don't even own, just so I can finish the game off.
Anya 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2004 All the Tekken 5 news and updates have temporarily lowered my interest in Deception. The game needs to come out now.
Use Your Illusion 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2004 Tekken 5 actually has me rather uninterested, and I'm a pretty big Tekken fan. However, with MGS3, SD! vs RAW and Dynasty Warriors 4: Empires on the horizon, it is detracting from my overall interest in MK:Deception as well.
Anya 0 Report post Posted July 20, 2004 Every report from those who've played T5 has been really positive. IGN just started a new feature where they're going to reveal the bios for the characters in MKD. First up is Raiden, Sindel and Mileena. Raiden's is interesting....he is dead!
Use Your Illusion 0 Report post Posted July 20, 2004 You'd think Sindel would have gone for a look that doesn't scream "I'm fucking evil" now that she's been restored to her former, peaceful self. They're not giving very much away either, but I suppose that's a positive. MK characters have always been deep as all hell, so character storylines should be just as great in this one. Anya 0 Report post Posted July 20, 2004 She's been good for like nearly a DECADE too. I guess she just likes her evil looking hair and outfit. I hate how like every girl in the game is wearing a swimsuit.
Guest Beingz0wningj00 Report post Posted July 21, 2004 what are some other comments on the characters? Like how did Raiden die... does it refer to a different ending, was his non canon?
Anya 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2004 He apparently blew himself up to stop the Dragon King. Not sure about his MKDA ending or any other. It looks like Deception takes place RIGHT AFTER DA though, so a bunch, if not all, MKDA endings may end up being non-canon.
Anya 0 Report post Posted July 26, 2004 Official X-Box Magazine's September issue has reached subscribers, and it includes a look at bios for several characters from Mortal Kombat: Deception, including Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Mileena, Baraka, Raiden, and newcomers Shujinko and Darrius! The newly revealed character bios follow: * Darrius: Leader of the Resistance in the Realm of Order, Darrius lives a life in the shadows. His ambition is to overthrow the oppressive regime that strangles freedom. To some he is a hero... but to others he is nothing more than a terrorist. * Shujinko: Long before Liu Kang had won the Mortal Kombat tournament in Earthrealm, Shujinko had begun his quest to retrieve the Kamidogu for the Elder Gods. His journey took him to many realms where he met many experienced warriors. * Scorpion: In his haste to confront his nemesis, Quan Chi, he was ambushed by two Oni and cast into a powerful soulnado. He would have been torn apart by the souls trapped there had he not escaped into the Void. In this place, he first set eyes on the fabled Elder Gods. * Sub-Zero: While still in Outworld, the Lin Kuei Grand Master, Sub-Zero, discovers the secret of his true heritage - the source of his mastery over cold temperatures. This discovery will aid him in the fight to destroy the Dragon King's vile and bloodthirsty Tarkatan hordes. * Baraka: Baraka's Tarkatan race is a mutated hybrid of Netherealm and Outworld species. A loyal warrior, Baraka faithfully serves his new master, the Dragon King, by preoccupying Outworld opposition with his Tarkatan hordes, the backbone of the Dragon King's terrifying army. The article also features images of Darrius and Shujinko; Darrius is a bald man with sunglasses, wearing a sleeveless leather tunic, while Shujinko is an old man with white robes and long white hair, reminiscent of Pai Mei from the movie Kill Bill. As always, due to copyright issues we are unable to provide scans of the article. However, this issue will soon be on newsstands near you (if it isn't already), so be sure and pick up your copy today! I'm not really fond of Darrius or Shujinko's designs. Shujinko in particular is boring, there's enough old guys in MK. Darrius is probably a new name for the Dairou character that's been mentioned. Updated confirmed roster: Default 1. Scorpion 2. Sub-Zero 3. Ermac 4. Sindel 5. Nightwolf 6. Baraka 7. Mileena 8. Li Mei 9. Bo' Rai Cho 10. Kenshi 11. Ashrah(New) 12. Hotaru(New) Hidden 13. Noob Saibot 14. Kabal 15. Smoke 16. Shujinko(New) 17. Darrius(New) 18. Ben(New, name is unofficial) 19. Kira(New) 20. Skab(New) 21. 22. 23. 24. 4 slots left...lots of possibilities. Raiden, Jax, Liu Kang, Quan Chi, Kitana, Jade, Tanya and Sektor are all highly speculated to be in.

AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted August 3, 2004 But 10 years ago stuff like this was hyped as a great port and near arcade perfect. It's funny how things have changed in the fighting game community. Like now if there is anything even remotely wrong with a port it's RUINED. Just one thing and everyone will relentlessly rip it to shreds. Especially in the SNK community, where the hardcore fans want to put the Neo over as much as they can. The Tekken 3 for PSx was ripped to shreds? Don't tell me SFA3 was, because despite the smaller sprite size and missing animation, that was praised heavily by everyone, I believe. If those are too old for valid examples, I don't know what to say. Arcade games come out in trickles these days. Plus, why shouldn't the SNK community expect perfect ports? The main reason to get a Neo Geo is to play perfect ports. Today, we're in an era when the home systems equal or exceed the power of arcade machines. Why should we expect or tolerate half-ass ports? It seems like as time goes on more and more MK fans, especially younger ones, have never even played the arcade versions. Their only memories and knowledge of the classic games is in the crappy 16 bit ports. It's especially sad when it's something like UMK3, which had beyond awful 16 bit versions. Arcade UMK3 is just lightyears ahead of the 16 bit conversions. The other day I saw someone who didn't know MK1 had blood, because they had only played the SNES version! That's just depressing. Arcades are dying, especially ones that only really have older games. Of course, MK1 in the arcades was *still* awful, and at least the gameplay was preserved on Genesis. You know I think MK3 in any form sucks, but I'd think they'd be most familiar with Trilogy on PSX. However, I think the MK3 version on SNES was still stellar for the hardware restraints, since my cousins had it while I had the PSX version. Midway Arcade Treasures 2 is going to be awesome. I have a feeling they'll somehow screw it up though, even just a little, and they won't really be arcade pefect. Aside from a glitch in the PS2 version of the first game, why would there be? I could only imagine that happening if they port the Saturn version of MKII rather than the arcade one. Oh, and for your pleasure, a rantview of MK: Annihilation: http://www.jabootu.com/mka.htm Patrick Point: The character bio also refers to his weapons as "firebombs from his abdominal launch cavity." That one line alone almost makes getting the DVD worthwhile.
