WB Cancels Angel...

Recommended Posts

Don't really care ::Dodges the flames:: but I know several of you are fans of the show, so...

The WB announced today that Angel won't be back for a sixth season. The news comes on the heels of the network airing the 100th episode of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer spin-off starring David Boreanaz. The WB issued a statement early in order to give the show's creators time to wrap up the season appropriately.

"For the last seven years 'Angel' and 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' have been cornerstones of our network. The sum total of the work done on those shows has produced some of the proudest moments in our history," said the network.

"Like some of the great series that are leaving the air this year, including 'Frasier' and 'Friends,' the cast, crew, writers and producers of 'Angel' deserve to be able to wrap up the series in a way befitting a classic television series and that is why we went to Joss to let him know that this would be the last year of the series on The WB."

The cancellation might not be the end of Angel altogether though. "We have discussed continuing the 'Angel' legacy with special movie events next year, which is still on the table," said The WB. "In a perfect world, all of these details would be completed before this information went to the press so that we could be definitive about the show's ongoing future. But in any case, we did not want to contemplate this being the last year of 'Angel' without giving the show the option of crafting their own destiny for this character and for this series."

The network also praised Boreanaz, cast and crew. "David Boreanaz continues to be one of the finest, classiest and friendliest actors we have had the pleasure to work with and we hope that the relationship furthers from here. The same can be said for all the actors and producers on the show."

There are still nine episodes left in this, now last, season of Angel.

The petition in the Angel thread (where there's been discussion on it since yesterday) has over 11,000 signatures.

Damn...had about 4,600 when I signed it.

I got the banner from buffy.nu but I don't know how to make it to where you just click the banner itself for an instant link.

I'm not surprised. The ratings have been very bad.

And I haven't enjoyed this season near as well as seasons past.

Well, it had a good run. It's reach 100 episodes, the magic number for syndication. I just hope that they can do a proper sendoff to wrap up the show (a better finale, I hope, than the one we got for Buffy).

Take out the spaces and that will put the link on the picture. It's how I managed it for my sig.

Edit: 5812 as of my signing.

these things never do any good...but what the hell.

They need longer to give it a proper ending.

Don't quit just yet. When Scifi's Farscape was cancelled the fans created a huge campaign to get it back on the aire. Now a four hour mini-series of the show is being filmed right now.

You know, it's funny. I was reading RRR's sig and it dawned on me: Joss Whedon can't get a freakin' break. He puts his flagship show on UPN, and it only lasts two seasons. He keeps his first original show on the WB, and the network cuts it due to bad ratings. He sents his newborn lovechild over to Fox, and they do what they always do: bury the show and then ax it before it gets off the ground.

Yes what bps said. Buffy was on WB for 5 years, they cancelled it because they didn't want to spend money on their top rated show after a GREAT MOTHERFUCKIN SEASON because they are dumb.

But yes, Joss can't catch a break. But don't worry, his talent can't go hidden in Hollywood. The man will win an Oscar, I'll put anything on the line for it.

Add that to the 13781 on the other petition in YnA's sig and that's a hell of a lot of signatures to gather over just a weekend. There're probably a lot of duplicates, but still...

Don't worry, Joss has "Astonishing X-Men (vol 2)" to tide him over until he gets a new series. I should point out, though, that 2 hit series + 1 cult series is pretty good as it is...

Also, I'm not saying that ideas may have run thin on the show, but:

wtf?

It does. There are actually some really significant plot points during it.

I'm still dubious. Sure, it could be brilliant, but to me, puppets and live action have only worked when Jim Henson was in charge. I guess we'll have to see if they can make a believer out of me...

Yeah, I agree with the basis of your point. When I read the concept I groaned as well. But I don't think that's significant enough to warrant a "they're running out of ideas", which you "weren't saying". Buffy had Sid the dummy early on in its run, and they weren't exactly out of ideas considering they did their best work in season 5, and their most creative work in season 4.

Food for thought there. Probably won't surprise you that I never really watched Buffy though. No real reason - I just never did...
