Until (if) this country is ready to be truly equal with respect to race, I'm going to work the system in my favor. I encourage every other minority to do the same. If it is, indeed, wrong for these things like affirmative action to be in place, then I expect that they will be gone soon enough. Ok from roughly 1700-1865 ( possibly longer), Black people were enslaved by whites. Just a little something wrong with that picture, don't you think, one group of people enslaving another. They also literally stole this country from the Native Americans. Blacks still didn't even have equal rights until 1964, and even now I would say that blacks are looked upon as being inferior to whites, which is not true, but seriously thats how a lot of white people think. So for over two hundred years we were treated like fucking animals, called apes, our women and children raped and murdered while white people sat back and called us names like "niggers" and "monkeys". Blacks were treated like total shit, much worse than any of the other immigrants who came over from Europe at the turn of the century. We didn't have it as bad as the Native Americans because while we had it bad, nearly their entire "race" was wiped out and what did they get for it, fucking casinos and free school. Well, that's the least that could be done for the poor people had their enitre way of life totally destroyed. I would say that affirmative action is the least that could be done, its absolutely fucking payback for the qualified black people in the past who were discriminated for their fucking skin color ( something that they can't control) and could not go to the best universities. People are just way too fucking close minded and need to realize that scientifically "race" doesn't exist. All human life started in Africa. The branching off into various "races" if you will, happened only about 90,000 years ago which is basically about 15 minutes as far as evolution is concerned. This is simply not enough time for significant genetic differences to occur. So while in a perfect world, people would all be considered equal, but we don't live in a perfect world. The worst part about this is that you have white people bitching and moaning about affirmative action, when lets face it most white people don't get follwed around in stores just because they fit a stereotype, and most white people have never been discriminated against in their lives to the extent of other minorities. So I think that affirmative action is a good way to show whites that shit needs to change and that we all need to start considering each other equal so that things like affirmative action arent needed. Jason is suffering from a case of being something that he's not. Like Papcita said, there's a lot scholarships that aren't exclusive just based on race, I know there's scholarships for being left handed and etc. I don't mind if there is a "whites only" scholarship. You guys should lobby this idea at the next KKK rally in your area and maybe they can sponsor a scholarship, if they can adopt a highway im sure they can create and sponsor a scholarship program. I don't think affirmative action is the best policy either - essentially all it does in its current form is help out a limited number of minority individuals on the way to becoming professionals while still leaving behind a vast majority of the "groups" it aims to help. We'd be better off with expanded government subsidies and benefits for teachers willing to work in disadvantaged minority-heavy districts, in order to bring people up at an earlier level - Teach for America does this and deserves to be ten times as large as it currently is. The problem I have is with your line of thought: it overexaggerates the "I'd better hire an unqualified black man!" problem to the point of farce. Quotas in the workplace are so minimal at this point that you would be much better pointing your ire towards the growing trend of outsourcing jobs to India, which costs whites AND blacks living in America thousands more jobs than any Affirmative Action program. Tangential thought: what the hell is the problem with a blacks-only scholarship or a Puerto Ricans-only scholarship? They're usually funded by individuals or private organizations who have every right to designate who they'd like to be the recipient of their donations. I barely even consider that affirmative action. I'm a middle-class white guy and there were still dozens of Italian ancestry and Scottish ancestry scholarships available to me, many on the local level. Like someone pointed out above, if it's coming from a private individual, they can designate whatever group of people they want as eligible for the scholarship. I do think that these kinds of things are just furthering discrimination in this country, but like I said before. I do have a problem when someone tries to do a "white only" type of thing and people jump down there throats for it. If we're all supposed to be equal then we should all be able to work this way on an equal playing field and every race should get scholarships that are open to just them. If one can do it then they all can do it. It's not fair to say "Well white's were oppressive so they don't get anything like that and if they try to then they're racist fuckwads." Gee.......act like it's my fault that my ancestors enslaved other people's ancestors. I wish I had control over that because then it would've never happened.....but I can't change the past.....and neither can anyone else. Actually, I found out the self imposed company Quota's are ILLEGAL, unless the Court sentence the company to have quota's after the company is found guilty of discrimination.
