New Jersey Numbers

I noticed that Keith Van Horn, who's worn #2 in the NBA for as long as I can remember, has changed his number to 44; that has to be due, at least in part, to the fact that that number was worn by Junior Bridgeman, and has since been retired by the Bucks.

 

While #3 has not been retired by Portland, it is currently being used by Damon Stoudamire, so I can understand why Shareef Abdur-Rahim changed his number.

 

 

What vexes me a little bit is that Rasheed Wallace, who used to wear #30, is now #36 in Atlanta, and that Tim Thomas and Nazr Mohammed, who used to be numbers 6 and 2 respectively, are now #5 and 13 on the Knicks. To the best of my knowledge, none of these player's old numbers have been retired by their current teams, nor are they currently being used by any of their new teammates; does anyone know why any of them changed their numbers?

Oh shit I was just so lost I was trying to figure out what the Nets had to do with because of the title man i am stupid but anyways I have no clue sometimes they wanted that number originally and someone else had it so when they go to another team they finally get the number they want but I do not have a true answer to that question just a guess.

KVH actually has worn 44 most of his career, Tim Thomas never wore 6, he has always worn 5 I think and Sheed is just insane

Yeah I understand after his statement but when I read the title I thought it had something to do with the New Jersey Nets. I was lost at first but then I read the title again and figured out what he really meant.

Hehe... speaking of new jersey numbers, I remember when Donyell Marshall and Jalen Rose were traded to the Raptors, they each wanted there old numbers, but they were taken. Rose and Marshall had to pay Michael Bradley and Mengke Bateer, who had the numbers they wanted, for there numbers back. Nobody knows how much they paid, but Marshall did say about Bateer, "Those Europeans, they know how to negotiate". Mengke Bateer wasn't European, he was Mongolian.

The only numbers retired by the Atlanta Hawks are #9 (Bob Pettit), #23 (Lou Hudson) and #21 (Dominique Wilkins). Maybe someone on the Hawks already had #30 (sorry, but I have no idea who's on their roster right now), or maybe Rasheed knew he'd only be there for a few days and didn't really give a crap what number he wore.
