All this baseless Red Sox and Cubs support is gonna make it even more beautiful when the Yankees beat them both.

Monumental doesn't even APPROACH the right word if they don't win.

And the first person who tries a "well, at least they made it "x" far".....

Just hope I'm not in the mood to look you up and chase you down.

Eventually George is just gonna flat out buy the Red Sox, and then bury all the players. Kind of like Vince buying WCW in 01. Well, actually then George would have all the former Red Sox on the Yankees roster align with the new Red Sox players and....you know what, this is why wrestling analogies shouldn't be made in sports....carry on.

Oh, and just to create more CONTROVERSY~! the O's will be better than both the Yanks (old and imploding with no prospects) and the Sox (buh bye Pedro and Nomar) in 05. Bank on it.

You can't be the majority owner of more than one team

Yeah, I am real scared. I will be sure never to mess with you. You think you are a badass or something?

I think Yankees failure gets me crazed.

He can hire his son and daughter to run the Red Sox. Than bring in Bucky Dent has Red Sox GM, and Paul O'Neill has Yankee GM. Reggie Jackson can than be appointed sheriff and drive out in a golf cart.

It's not as if the Astros are only paying him $2 mil a year or something; the money IS comparable to NY's offer, and the Astros have the potential to be a very good team.  Plus, he actually gets to see his kids for most of the year now.

Yes, comparable, but less.

Very good team, but not better than the team he left.

Someone needs to reevaluate his reasons for playing the game.

At some point your LIFE becomes more important than the GAME.

At some point, you grow up. He's won his Championships, now he just wants to be with his kids.

Good for him.

Why should he retire when he can make millions of dollars and spend most of his time at home?

Because the passion is gone.

Maybe he just wants a challenge. He won his 4 World Series with the Yankees and, whether or not it's fair, those will always be seen as being bought by Steinbrenner. Winning it all with a 'lesser' team, and at home, to boot, could likely mean more to him once he's career's over and he looks back.

Also, there's probably some fire inside of him hoping to stick it to the Yankees for not showing him the respect he thought he deserved (and I'm not talking about money here, but rather how he didn't feel like they cared about him after seeing the way they've pursued other free agents).

Why would you want to challenge yourself?

The whole object of the game is to win championships. Why throw roadblocks along in your path?

That being said, I don't think that the Astros are in any way a hindrance to Pettitte winning a championship anyway, so he picked a shitty challenge.

If he had stayed, he would have had his number retired in Monument Park. The Ultimate sign of respect.

He just had to realize that he was an investment to George, nothing more, nothing less, ad learn to ignore it. You should never put your feelings ahead of your career.

Its stuff like this that proves AngleSault will die an old, lonely, bitter man

but true since you don't understand how a person could wish to continue to pursue their career and be with their family at the same time.

Well, it makes no sense.

Unless you take more money or go to a significantly better team, of course.

I just don't understand it.

Family or not, it makes no sense to leave a team without bettering yourself in some way.

Being with your family doesn't "better" yourself?

He can become a better father, a better husband by moving to his hometown team.

Fuck no. Not career wise, in any way, shape or form. Hell, in my humble opinion, it helps to further the eroding of Pettitte's competitive edge.

My God, I don't have a soul.

Oh well, it'd just slow me down

Roger Clemens sold his a long time ago and look where it got him.

Going out on a limb, I think Houston's long term chances are better than the Yankees'. I've got them pegged as the N.L. favorites this season. Their pitching is already better than the Yankees, and the system is loaded with prospects.

Yep.

Houston.

Actually, I was talking about the success and mounds of money and whatnot.

And you know what, as much as I despise the man, you've got to give him credit. Not just anyone could pull the stunt that he pulled last year as convincingly as he did. The man is SUCH a good liar that he convinced the whole country he was retiring. That takes skill.

Eh, The Astros will only be good for another ten years or so. :) The Yankees cn find a way (and they damn well better) to match that. :P

I'll laugh when the Yanks win and Cubs fans try to leech of the Curse of the Bambino as an excuse.
