The "What Film(s) Did You Watch Today" Thread

Haven't wached any movies today, but I did watch Die Hard 3 a couple of days ago, completing the viewing of the Die Hard trilogy for me.

I give Die Hard 3 an 8/10. It was certainly better than the second one (which was far too unrealistic, John McClane did a little bit too much), but the first one was by far the best, as it was very crisp and straightforward, and it also had some great action sequences while still being a smart movie at the same time.

Altogether, I'm satisfied with the Die Hard trilogy, as they certainly did their best to avoid a disaster, although Die Hard 2 was extremely close, with William Sadler as a rather unconvincing bad guy and Dennis Franz as the stereotypical angry cop, which is quite a contrast from the head honcho of the police in Die Hard 3.

EDIT: Scratch that, I have watched a movie today. Began watching Cool Hand Luke for the second time. Enjoyed it the first time, still enjoy it the second time. Also saw American History X recently, which doesn't ever get old, really. Despite his attempts to get more screen time, Edward Norton is still amazing in that movie, along with the other Edward of the Furlong variety.

Showdown in Little Tokyo was on tv last night in Sweden, so I decided to watch it since it was one of my favourite movies when was eleven. And it certainly wasn't any good, but for some reason I can't really dislike it. Besides, it features one of my new favourite lines: Capt.: "So you lost all the suspects because you were too busy wailing on eachother", Dolph Lundgren: "Except for this one and he just broke his own neck". That one had me laughing non stop for several minutes.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

10/10.

I can't stress enough how brilliant this film was.

Intolerable Cruelty

A good romantic comdy with an edge, but I expect more from the Coen Brothers. ***1/2

Shiri

Very good Korean action thriller. Everything I want to see in a big blockbuster movie, and probably shot with a fraction of a normal Hollywood budget. The acting was good, too. Really nice. ****

The Girl Next Door

3/10.

TOTAL DISAPOINTMENT. The concept WAS really good...and they dropped the ball. ONE interesting character and maybe two decent scenes the rest was recycled teen movie sthick.

Starksy and Hutch

7.5/10

Funny all the way through, the thin plot kinda hurt it but it wasn't a issue really...good for 90 minutes of cute humor but nothing gut busting.

Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels

8 out of 10

While watching the movie I thought it was alright, and there were a few funny parts. But the closer to the end it gets the funnier it gets. And near the end with everyone's story coming together and the bodycount getting out of controll it just gets hysterical.

Just got back from watching Shaun Of The Dead, which I'd give a healthy 8/10. Some of the characters are brilliantly written (Ed the flatmate being a particular favourite), the funny bits are really funny, the sad bits are really sad and the gory bits are very gory. Simon Pegg is great as Shaun and Dylan Moran is fantastic as a complete arsehole called Dave. Recommended.

Alamo 7/10

Billy Bob owns this movie. Most of the movie is actually really good, but there are a couple big flaws that drag it down. Santa Anna is too much of a cartoon supervillain and the movie goes on for another 15 minutes or so after it should have ended. But all the stuff that actually takes place inside the Alamo, the bulk of the film, is great. Especially the stuff with Davy Crockett. There is a longer cut out there when it was supposed to come out in November, but most of the cut stuff was other stuff that took away from the actual Alamo and the result is what is likely to be a more polished and ultimately better version of the film.

It is a good movie, but but a few problems prevent it from becoming great.

Gothika - Not knowing what to expect going in, I'd say it's good enough to rent. 7/10

Last night I watched:

The Great Dictator - which is still hilarious after three viewings.

Celine and Julie Go Boating - which is one of my top five favourite movies ever.

The Matrix Revolutions

6 out of 10

Very disapointing, but not awful. Very lackluster ending. And I was hoping for more of the one on one combat that made the first two good. Instead of the big machine battles that just bored me, and went on forever.

I saw Dummy today. I was pretty dissapointed. It had that chick from Resident Evil, Dazed & Confused and some other shit in it. And she wasn't even looking that hot in this one.

5/10.

Return Of The Living Dead Part II: 2/10

The 2 points is for the scenes that made me laugh. Cinemax has this listed as a Horror movie, so I rented it (since I get Showtime and HBO instead). Nothing was scary, and was just a mockery of the mockery of Night of the Living Dead. The acting was slightly better in 2 I guess since it had a limited cast, but 1 is still a LOT better and better than it should be (considering the B-level-ness of the movie)

Die Hard With a Vengeance (8/10)

Better than "Die Hard 2" and almost as good as "Die Hard". The three leads are great and the action is top notch.

I went to a movie marathon last night/ thismorning and saw three movies I would have otherwise never had seen

Win a date with Tad Hamilton: You're basic romantic comedy 7/10 as the chick in it was really hot

Paycheck: Fucking awful. Plot holes a plenty and Ben Afleck is painful to watch 1.5/10

Honey: It was ok for what it was but is should have been cut down to 15 mins of Slutty dancing and Missy Elliot being Funny, that woman should have her own tv show. 4/10

Friday - The Bluuuuues Brothers... havent seen this movie in 5 years, although when I was a kid I watched it religiously... probably a legit 20 times. It's great going back to movies that you loved as a kid, because when you're older you actually GET the jokes or the plot or whatever... and this still remains one of my favorites. 10/10

Saturday - Somethings Gotta Give - Really good romantic comedy, and you can never go wrong with Jack, 7.5/10

Today - The Adventures of Robin Hood - just an all out classic... BEAUTIFUL movie, from the acting to the glorious technicolor. Errol Flynn was simply the MAN - 10/10
