Anyway, today I saw Welcome to the Jungle/The Rundown.

awesome cop movie. Tony Leung and Andy Lau are at their best here, turning in incredible performances as two cops at odds. I can't wait to see part 2 and 3.

 

It's coming to American cinemas on August 20th and I advise everyone to take a look.

Man On Fire (2004) - [9.0/10]

 

Great story. Great acting. Great, unquie direction.

I caught the new Denzel Washington & Tony Scott film, "Man On Fire". A very good adaptation of the A.J. Quinnell novel, in which a former Marine swears vengeance on those who committed an unspeakable act against the family he was hired to protect. Brian Helgeland (Mystic River, L.A. Confidential) continues his impressive screenplay resume, and Denzel Washington bounces back from his somewhat "box office flop" with Out Of Time (which actually is a solid action movie). The first hour focuses on establishing a relationship between Creasy (Dezel Washington) and Pita (Dakota Fanning), and does a very good job of doing so, as Fanning, charming as ever, continues to impress as a 9 year old. The second hour is more action based, and sees Denzel totally take over as a badass assassin. The movie has a few nice twists and turns, but even without, the movie is very much worth watching, from beginning to end. Great acting. Great directing. Great story. Certainly picking up the DVD once available.

Kill Bill Vol. 2 - 9/10. Great character movie, especially Budd & Bill. The time just flew right bye. I would probably bump it up to a 10, but I haven't seen Vol. 1, so I think I am missing something. I hope the Academy remembers David Carradine come Oscar time because that was a fantastic performance.

 

Master & Commander: The Far Side of the World - 10/10. The easy choice for Best Picture last year if the LOTR finale hadn't come out. Another well-acted character story, which is probably the most realistic take on the Age of Sail ever produced. Beautiful to look at and listen to, its Oscars for Cinematography and Sound Editing are well deserved. Haven't gotten into the extras too much yet, just the trailers and deleted scenes. No commentary track, but there is a lot of stuff on here regardless.

I started rewatching the series on DVD right around the time The History Channel started airing the series. Just finished part 10 (the last one) minutes ago. Far and away my favorite war story.

Last Night:

 

The Wicker Man(9/10)-Excellent film. It's said to be scary, but I see it more as a psychological thriller(like Silence of the Lambs). It is an excellent, yet freaky film, that sometimes feels like a musical. This film ranks right behind A Clockwork Orange as the "Weirdest Film I've Seen". Christopher Lee(Lord of the Rings) stars as the strange Lord Summersile.

Great soundtrack on this one and an interesting look back at the gay scene before AIDS. Plus, its the first time (and probably the last) that i've seen a guy been fisted in a sling on network television

very original in plot, animation and directing. But I just couldn't get into it. Loved the soundtrack, though.

Reservior Dogs - Great movie, but the ending left me wanting more. Of course, it'd be kinda hard to do anymore, but you know what I mean. The standoff scene at the end was just awesome. 9.5/10
