Guest I Got Banned for Sucking Posted April 22, 2004 Report Posted April 22, 2004 I was going to watch Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, but instead I ended up watching... ... The Usual Suspects again. *****
Guest I Got Banned for Sucking Posted April 24, 2004 Report Posted April 24, 2004 Master and Commander - 10/10 I didn't see that film, but the people here that watched it thought it somewhat slow. Anyway, today I saw Welcome to the Jungle/The Rundown. ***3/4
Insane Bump Machine Posted April 24, 2004 Report Posted April 24, 2004 Infernal Affairs - ****1/2 awesome cop movie. Tony Leung and Andy Lau are at their best here, turning in incredible performances as two cops at odds. I can't wait to see part 2 and 3. It's coming to American cinemas on August 20th and I advise everyone to take a look. IMDB Link
haVoc Posted April 24, 2004 Report Posted April 24, 2004 Rock Star on VH1 which I have a question about. The part in the film when the manager is backstage and he's hooked up to a machine. He says it was to freshen up his blood. What was that thing?
Guest T®ITEC Posted April 25, 2004 Report Posted April 25, 2004 (edited) The Substitute - 4/10 ...And there are actually FOUR of these stupid movies. Well, Ernie Hudson pretty much rules, so at least #1 had him in its favour. Damn you USA Network for playing such films... Edited April 25, 2004 by T®ITEC
Guest OctoberBlood Posted April 25, 2004 Report Posted April 25, 2004 Man On Fire (2004) - [9.0/10] Great story. Great acting. Great, unquie direction. I caught the new Denzel Washington & Tony Scott film, "Man On Fire". A very good adaptation of the A.J. Quinnell novel, in which a former Marine swears vengeance on those who committed an unspeakable act against the family he was hired to protect. Brian Helgeland (Mystic River, L.A. Confidential) continues his impressive screenplay resume, and Denzel Washington bounces back from his somewhat "box office flop" with Out Of Time (which actually is a solid action movie). The first hour focuses on establishing a relationship between Creasy (Dezel Washington) and Pita (Dakota Fanning), and does a very good job of doing so, as Fanning, charming as ever, continues to impress as a 9 year old. The second hour is more action based, and sees Denzel totally take over as a badass assassin. The movie has a few nice twists and turns, but even without, the movie is very much worth watching, from beginning to end. Great acting. Great directing. Great story. Certainly picking up the DVD once available.
Anorak Posted April 25, 2004 Report Posted April 25, 2004 Spirited Away - 8/10 I watched it early hours of the morning after a drink so it probably deserves another watch.
Aero Posted April 25, 2004 Report Posted April 25, 2004 I've watched a bunch of movies between last night and today... Die Hard: With a Vengeance... 9/10 Harry Potter: Chamber of Secrets... 7/10 Joe Dirt... 6/10 High Fidelity... 8/10
Kahran Ramsus Posted April 26, 2004 Report Posted April 26, 2004 Kill Bill Vol. 2 - 9/10. Great character movie, especially Budd & Bill. The time just flew right bye. I would probably bump it up to a 10, but I haven't seen Vol. 1, so I think I am missing something. I hope the Academy remembers David Carradine come Oscar time because that was a fantastic performance. Master & Commander: The Far Side of the World - 10/10. The easy choice for Best Picture last year if the LOTR finale hadn't come out. Another well-acted character story, which is probably the most realistic take on the Age of Sail ever produced. Beautiful to look at and listen to, its Oscars for Cinematography and Sound Editing are well deserved. Haven't gotten into the extras too much yet, just the trailers and deleted scenes. No commentary track, but there is a lot of stuff on here regardless.
Youth N Asia Posted April 26, 2004 Report Posted April 26, 2004 It's not a movie, but a mini series Band of Brothers 10 out of 10 I started rewatching the series on DVD right around the time The History Channel started airing the series. Just finished part 10 (the last one) minutes ago. Far and away my favorite war story.
Insane Bump Machine Posted April 26, 2004 Report Posted April 26, 2004 Nightwatch (danish original) - ****
Guest JumpinJackFlash Posted April 26, 2004 Report Posted April 26, 2004 Last Night: The Wicker Man(9/10)-Excellent film. It's said to be scary, but I see it more as a psychological thriller(like Silence of the Lambs). It is an excellent, yet freaky film, that sometimes feels like a musical. This film ranks right behind A Clockwork Orange as the "Weirdest Film I've Seen". Christopher Lee(Lord of the Rings) stars as the strange Lord Summersile.
Zorin Industries Posted April 27, 2004 Report Posted April 27, 2004 Cruising: 8/10 Great soundtrack on this one and an interesting look back at the gay scene before AIDS. Plus, its the first time (and probably the last) that i've seen a guy been fisted in a sling on network television
Si82 Posted April 27, 2004 Report Posted April 27, 2004 Recently: The Big One (8/10) Insomina (7/10) A Knight's Tale (7/10)
Guest OctoberBlood Posted April 28, 2004 Report Posted April 28, 2004 13 Going On 30 (2004) - [7.5/10]
AndrewTS Posted April 28, 2004 Report Posted April 28, 2004 I would probably bump it up to a 10, but I haven't seen Vol. 1, so I think I am missing something. I don't think so.
Insane Bump Machine Posted May 1, 2004 Report Posted May 1, 2004 The Yin-Yang Master - **1/2 great sets, costumes and effects. But the plot moves along so s...l..o..w that I was barely able to stay awake. The Triplets of Belleville - **1/2 very original in plot, animation and directing. But I just couldn't get into it. Loved the soundtrack, though.
Hank Kingsley Posted May 2, 2004 Report Posted May 2, 2004 Pulp Fiction - What can be said about this that hasn't been said? 10/10 Reservior Dogs - Great movie, but the ending left me wanting more. Of course, it'd be kinda hard to do anymore, but you know what I mean. The standoff scene at the end was just awesome. 9.5/10
