Why do they call it sitting "Indian Style?" Do you seriously expect me to believe that the Europeans didn't think to sit down with their legs crossed?

Damn yall.

Can't you let the Native Americans keep something? I mean god, first we steal their secrets of growing crops, then we steal their land, then we throw disease ridden blankets on them...now you want to steal their way of sitting?

You my friend are a sad, sad man

And don't for one second try to convince me that the pilgrims landed on the shores of Massachutsets, walked into the woods, saw an Indian giving an Indian burn to another Indian, and said, "By God, I never thoughteth of that before, verily."

And you end it with a pic of a guy who's not even a Native American

And I would have gotten away with it too if it weren't for you!

Now that I think about it, the term probably originated for a style of sitting popular among the people of the Indus valley.

You know, in India.

Not Indiana.

I actually took time off from work to think about this.

Actually, they did fly the carpets, it's true.

But they didn't know about Indian Style, and it's optimal effects on flying said carpets. The Arabs sat with the left leg in the air, as a rudder. While this was good for steering, it was not good for staying on the carpet.

When they fell off the carpet, did it cause the now pilot-less carpet to go careening into buildings?

They actually continued flying never to be seen again. That's why there are so few these days. They can't be replicated so the only few remaining magic carpets are being used by Big Foot and the Amish.

Apparently, the new politically correct term is "criss cross applesauce." That makes even less sense than "Indian style."

criss-cross APPLESAUCE?!

What in the blue hell is wrong with oranges? Hmmmm?

Well gluh! Indian style sitting is globviously for poseur enlightened ones that wanna get in touch with their more boring quiet inner naturalist grandfather!

It hurts my back though. It, like, causes insta-slouch that I can't possibly defeat. I'd rather lie down to fill thoughts of the erasure of all thoughts in my mind than aggravate that back pain.

I have no idea. I was working at a photography studio and moms would tell their kids "criss cross applesauce" and they would sit Indian style. I asked one mom one time "Whatever happened to Indian style?" Her: "Apparently they don't like using that term anymore." Criss cross applesauce just sounds stupid. What the hell does applesauce have to do with sitting down?

Well, can YOU think of a better way to eat applesauce than sitting Indian-style?!

Actually, yeah, I can.

If you're flexible enough, your legs can sit Pretzel style....which is the same god damn thing except a slight ankle action.
