Sing me a song, you're a singer

Do me a wrong, you're a bringer of evil

The Devil is never a maker

The less that you give, you're a taker

So it's on and on and on, it's Heaven and Hell, oh well

The lover of life's not a sinner

The ending is just a beginner

The closer you get to the meaning

the sooner you'll know that you're dreaming

So it's on and on and on, oh it's on and on and on

It goes on and on and on, Heaven and Hell

I can tell, fool, fool!

Well if it seems to be real, it's illusion

For every moment of truth, there's confusion in life

Love can be seen as the answer, but nobody bleeds for the dancer

And it's on and on, on and on and on....

They say that life's a carousel

Spinning fast, you've got to ride it well

The world is full of Kings and Queens

Who blind your eyes and steal your dreams

It's Heaven and Hell, oh well

And they'll tell you black is really white

The moon is just the sun at night

And when you walk in golden halls

You get to keep the gold that falls

It's Heaven and Hell, oh no!

Fool, fool!

You've got to bleed for the dancer!

Fool, fool!

Look for the answer!

Fool, fool, fool!

Man, I remember watching some Christian anti rock video, and they showed Dio singing that on stage, but he was like, combining it with another song which I have heard but don't recognize, and then there was this part about talking to a black sheep and a white sheep that I don't think was in either song... I really liked that version, but I don't know where I could get it and I don't have that video anymore. It was good, though.

I don't think it's talking about heaven, hell, god or the devil.

I agree that it seems to just be about life's hardships.

I recently got Dio's 2 disc anthology that includes songs from his days in Elf, Rainbow, Black Sabbath and of course Dio. That song is really good. The whole collection is really good, anyone who wants to get into Dio should get Anthology.

I don't care what anyone says

Dio > Ozzy (on so many different levels)

Damn straight.

The thing is, Dio's a better singer and songwriter, but Ozzy was a better "frontman," loaded...with more charisma. Without Randy Rhoads songwriting talent and mad guitar skillz, I don't think Ozzy would have been such a huge success.

Sabbath with Dio was mostly pretty awesome, but the act collectively sounded a little out of date.

Sabbath blew their wad with the first four albums. Everything post Ozzy sounds forced to me.

Say what? You've never seen/been to a Dio concert apparently

Why Dio > Ozzy to me

-Better vocalist

-Better lyricist

-Didn't practically shit himself on national TV for youngins' amusement

-Didn't foist his untalented kids into the spotlight

(presuming that Dio has any kids, talented or not, but I'm sure they're > Ozzy's kids anyway...

...actually, given how old Dio is, he probably has grandkids our age)

Why Ozzy > Dio

-Better Chemistry with Sabbath

-Fit in with the band without really standing out. Everyone was on the same level.

-Less annoying early solo career.

-was never in Elf.

Anyone who says that Dio is a better singer than Ozzy is a dumbass.

I love the power Dio belts into his songs. Ozzy has no power, he just seems to whine

Don't get me wrong, there are some Ozzy BS/solo songs I enjoy, but really those tend to be in spite of his vocals... consider that a strong testament to the players behind him

Ozzy's voice on the first two albums sounds like a demon straight out of hell.

If demons sounded like annoying whiny Brits, maybe

That's exactly why I can't stand Dio-Sabbath. Ozzy did gritty, sedated vocals very well on their early material, which fit well with the dark bluesy nature of the music.

Dio has to pretend he's singing in a giant stadium, or o'er silver mountains every time he opens his yap. Their music had to change because of it, and it got signifigantly cheesier, and lost that grimy quality of the first 4.

I get a kick out of some of Dio's solo stuff, but only if it's played at exactly the right time. If the timing's off, and my Dio waves aren't syncronized, it just isn't happening.

Sub thread: I once heard this song, which may or may not have been Dio, though probably was. It still might be the worst song ever written, and is notable for this IMMENSELY horrific vocal breakdown that goes "Listen to the man, listen to the wise man," and then "Now I Know," becoming this sort of modern day buttrock madrigal in parts. It's REALLY fuckin' long, too. Anyone know if this is Dio, and what song?
