Bill O'Reilly Vs. Ludacris pt 2

Another Ludacris Situation

Tuesday, March 02, 2004

By Bill O'Reilly

Hi, I'm Bill O'Reilly. Thanks for watching us tonight.

Another Ludacris situation. That is the subject of this evening's "Talking Points Memo."

You may remember a couple years ago that Pepsi hired gansta rapper Ludacris (search) as a commercial pitchman. "Talking Points" objected, saying major American corporations have an obligation not to reward people who harmed society.

Millions of you agreed, Pepsi folded, Ludacris was fired. But now the St. Louis-based Anheuser-Busch Corporation (search) has signed a deal with Ludacris, paying him big money to sell beer.

Since this guy continues to celebrate violence and drugs, Anheuser-Busch is guilty of aiding and abetting, in my opinion. And I will not be buying their products or visiting their theme parks.

And a personal note to the executives at Anheuser. You guys must be nuts. Most Americans deplore the kind of garbage Ludacris puts out, and they're going to remember that you are rewarding him. Pepsi got the message, but you guys don't seem to.

Unlike Ozzie Osborne (search), who curses, or Britney Spears (search), who's an immature exhibitionist, Ludacris is hard-core. He glorifies criminal conduct, and kids hear this stuff. Some of those children are from troubled homes and adopt the anti-social attitudes as their own.

Ludacris is real big on firearms: Quote: "Hollow bullets I pull it. I'm about to live in vain. And then I drill 'em, refill 'em. Make sure they feel the pain. My shotguns are cold and hard, and my triggers are always talking about some squeeze me, squeeze me. I smack bitches with 'no. Just get a couple of girls that shake their thang."

Got the picture?

Well, this gangsta stuff is foolish to anyone who's mature, but for impressionable kids, drug and guns make an impression.

Anheuser-Busch knows all this and doesn't care. [it] Simply wants to make money and thinks Ludacris can sell beer and malt liquor--Society be damned.

So this Bud is not for me any more. Responsible Americans must hold corporations responsible for polluting the country, whether it's PCB's in the water or hyping criminal behavior on C.D.'s.

"Talking Points" believes Americans are getting fed up with all of this. And our poll question on billoreilly.com is: "Will you continue to buy Anheuser-Busch products now that the company has hired Ludacris?"

Will you continue to buy Anheuser-Busch products now that the company has hired Ludacris? billoreilly.com poll, we want to hear from you. We want to see what the plurality is here.

We will, of course, send the results along to Anheuser. But by the time they get them, I suspect the company will have received a message that's anything but ludicrous.

Americans have a choice when it comes to buying products.

And that's "The Memo."

The Most Ridiculous Item of the Day

Time now for "The Most Ridiculous Item of the Day."

I just couldn't watch the Academy Awards (search) last night. Too boring. I had it on in the background as I did some paperwork and read a book. But I have to say that most of the winners behaved themselves. That makes for a dull presentation, but it shows that drive-by political attacks are now out, that people who manage the stars know that careers are damaged by inappropriate comments. No question about that.

Have you heard much from George Clooney or Alec Baldwin lately? High-profile people with opinions are always welcome here on "The Factor" where political discourse is in context, and it's not ridiculous at all that the folks didn't have to put up with political rantings at the Oscars last night.

Oh wow, its funny that Ludacris got replaced by Ozzy, but Bill didn't have a problem with that, damn hypocrite. Bill has made this personal with Ludicris, I don't even consider Luda a "gangsta" rapper he's more of a comical rapper IMO.

Soooooooooo its ok, to replace him with a guy who talks about worshiping the devil, and biting bat heads off?

When did Ozzy talk about worshipping the Devil again? When was the last time he bit the head off of a bat? A man that America loves who swears a good deal isn't the same as a generic rapper who spouts off about fucking bitches, slapping hos, and shooting haters. Not the same at all. Oh, wait, Ludacris has had some great songs, I forgot. Like..."Southern Hospitality"..."dirty south women give dirty south head"...or "What's Your Fantasy"...a song encouraging promiscuity...yes, let this man sell our Pepsi products! He's a fine, upstanding young man!

Name me one song where Ozzy talks about stuff like that. If you really want to compare the two, call Bill O'Reily a hypocrite, let's get some comparisons going. How in the holy hell are you saying that the two are similar?

Its funny that Bill doesn't mention that Luda has his own charity foundation. Getting him off Pepsi is fine and all, but then turn around then replaced him with some pill popping, washed up rocker. I thought Bill was all about family values and Osbornes doesn't resemble any family values that Billy talks about. Billy is a hypocrite plan and simple. Oh by the way, where was Billy at when Dr. Dre was doing Coors beer commericials? or Jay-z when he was doing Heinekein and having his own shoe deal with Rebok? Billy has a personal beef Luda IMO.

the bat head incident was an accident, he thought it was a toy bat. Hasn't this got out to the general public yet? And Ozzy doesn't worship the devil in the least.......

Oh and Budweiser is disgusting anyway.

This is sooo lame.

So should O'Reilly bash Kodak, I think it is Kodak, for having Martin Scorsese as their spokesman? He makes some of the most violent films in recent years, so he must be a bad man.

Ludacris is just entertaining people. He doesn't entertain me, but that is what he is doing and sure as hell entertains some people. His album sold 1 million copies, even though that isn't really good.

I remember there being an excellent article awhile back that detailed the vulgarity in Bill O'Reilly's novel, Those Who Trespass, citing numerous things in that book that appear nowhere in any of Ludacris' albums (crack smoking, teenage prostitution, etc.).

I'll be damned if I can remember where I read it, though.

Perhaps valid, BUT O'Reilly would counter by saying that what is printed between the covers of his book is not exposed to a mainstream audience the way a Ludacris endorsement would be,thus what he does constitutes creative license and Ludacris constitutes smut. That's not how I neccessarily feel but I could see the approach being taken.

And O'Reilly's a tool.

It's not like Ludacris was talking about bitches and weed in a Pepsi commercial. Any Ludacris album is just as valid a form of expression as Bill O'Reilly's novel.

I wonder if Bill is going to deny boycotting Anheuser like he did Pepsi in 6 months? Revisionist history ahoy...

Calling Ludacris a gangsta rapper is like calling R. Kelly a gospel singer because he said something about god in a song.

As fun as it is to pull a lyric or two to prove your point, ludicris is up to 3 albums and noone can listen to those albums and say "Wow, this guy is just talking about drugs and guns..." . Bill is obviously just spouting off at the mouth.

I don't even like Ludacris. He is one of the last XXX rappers left (basically, they rap about fucking and find several different ways to talk about it) and I never really cared for that style. But if we are going to start cutting people from commercials for having sexually explict content in their resume, I don't think television commercials would exist.

Bill O'Reilly is basically just a hypocrite and a moron, and sadly people listen to and believe him.

I don't agree with the "boycott" but critics trying to connect "Those who Tresspass" with what O'Reilly grumbles on about (Rap, etc) are off base. The problem, according to Bill, is that these things are marketed toward kids. I think he might have a point there, but I still disagree with it.

And I loved how ol' Lud. accused Bill of being a racist regarding this matter -- had he not done that I would be on the rapper's side. Now I'm just an indifferent observer that doesn't care who "wins..."

Al Franken's Lies and the Lying Liars has a funny section about it

And is this music REALLY marketed to kids?? Last time I checked, most gangsta rap cds have a parental advisory sticker on them... and its not like Ludacris is appearing on Sesame Street. I say the fault lies more on the shoulders of the parents that let them listen to this crap

One of Bill's favorite films is the Godfather, a violent movie that was criticized for glorifying organized crime... it has an R rating, and it is indeed NOT marketed to kids... but if this became a very popular movie with young teenagers, would Bill change his mind and boycott Coppola?

meh. Oreilly is a dumb fuck.

"Luda" is sponsering alcohol not a drink that's avaliable for kids to buy.

I don't like rap that much because of the abusive language towards women but 99.9% of the population isn't going to go and smack a women around because some rapper sings about it.

Can anyone take a guy who calls Ludacris a gangsta rapper and thinks that he is the downfall of society seriously. Ludacris is the last thing from a gangsta rapper he pretty much just talks about getting drunk getting high, getting laid, and having lots of money. Bill O' Reily is a fucking hypocrite and in my opinion a fucking borderline racist.

End of arguement.

They certainly do want to make more money, and if they think Ludacris can sell more beer for them, they've got every right to have him be a spokesman. I don't see any CRIMES he's committing here, so Bud is certainly not aiding and abetting. He's just got his panties in a twist, and doesn't want to sit through a Ludacris commercial repeatedly, methinks.

He just seems like a person who is prejudiced, I probably used the wrong term describe him. Also, I get sick of all the slick comments some make on this board when it comes to racism. Nothing is more annoying than comments like "OMG, O' Reily's a racist because he said something bad about a black man". Those type of posts are stupid because if I said something like " OMG, affirmative action should be in place because it goes a short way in repaying African-Americans for slavery by showing white people what discrimination is all about", the same people would be up in arms. The liberal or minority posters here never seem to make ignorant or short-sighted comments like that whether its about music, politics, or whatever.

He didn't do that shit when Ozzy Ozbourne, a noted heavy drug user and spousal abuser ,was named the spokesperson. I mean Ozzy's son was in drug rehab at 17, can't that send the message that Ozzy is a bad father. That's something we shouldn't promote in our society now is it. He really has no reason to attack Ludacris for being a gangsta rapper, being that if he actually knew anything about rap music he would know that Luda is not a gangsta rapper. He entertains and raps mostly about having a good time. He might talk about gunplay and shit but definitely in a serious manner. He is fucking stereotyping a rapper as being a thug who glorifies violence. For him put all these pressure on Pepsi and Anheusher-Busch to fire Ludacris just because he doesn't like it is stupid. If it was Al Pacino who played in Scarface ( a much more violent portrayal of violence than anything Chris Bridges has done) was the spokesperson we probably wouldn't be hearing about it. Its the same as when these jackasses like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson, two reverends that I have never seen in a church, organizing boycotts of things over stupid ass shit. I don't like when other people are telling me what to watch and who is and isn't acceptable to promote the products to me.

I don't like Hilary Clinton.

So she's OBVIOUSLY the type of person who would be prejudiced.

He said Bill is a borderline racist because "He just seems like a person who is prejudiced"

The Hell?

He arbitrarily decided that Bill was "person who is prejudiced," so I did the same for Dragon Lady.

Tit for tat.
