No, "banning" a show for an occasional slip-up would be ridiculous. But increasingly stiff fines should be the rule of the law and, if a particular show keeps "crossing the line," well, then a banning probably wouldn't be out of the question.

I cant believe a couple of you really think that children listen to Howard....

It isn't just Howard Stern, man. There are other shock jocks, you know? Stern's just the most prolific figure being tossed around right now because he won't shut his mouth about it.

 

But yes, I would say that there's a pretty good chance that there are at least a few kids listening to him somewhere.

 

(BTW: I've never listened to one of Stern's shows; he's never been in the Houston market as far as I know. I've seen his TV show a time or two, but it really didn't interest me, so I can't speak on how "fit" he is for kids to listen to).

Uh people remember the FCC is not forcing Stern off the air. What the FCC is doing is they're cracking down on EVERY media provider on innapropriate content and CC, which is not a big carrier of Stern (only 6 stations), is the one that is refusing to carry Stern to score brownie points, remove a liablity, and make sure not a lot of $ is lost in the process.

If that's the quote, then, no. I don't find anything there to be offensive or otherwise indecent. He didn't call them "21 innocent Charlie" or Slant-eyed's or anything...where would the problem be?

 

Having to backtrack like that makes Limbaugh look like an idiot, but there's nothing to fine him over there. Being an idiot isn't illegal.

Why does everything have to be equated to religion? Because someone is offended that Howard Stern offers graphic details of anal sex at 7 in the morning and allows his callers to ask about "fucking n****r chicks" you must be a religious fanatic?! It's called having some common decency.

AngelSlayer said he's a religious fundamentalist. Appearantly his personality or voting record would back such a claim, though it has only slight relevance to the topid at hand. Don't get carried away.

 

I hate to tell some of you this, but on issues like cencorship the left meets the right anyway. Just like the religious right, the PC left is just as outraged by this stuff and both sides meet in the middle.

He's full of shit.

 

If you've followed radio (and I'm not sure if you have), they you would understand that the FCC has been cracking down on radio personalities (Howard ridiculously dubs them "Howard Stern clones") for the last several years. It's all been building up, and the Janet incident was the dam bursting.

 

Howard wasn't singled out because he's anti-Bush. Howard was singled out because the FCC, for better or worse, have been targeting out "shock jocks" and "indecency" for the last several years and now that there's even greater scrutiny on those radio personalities, Howard's the biggest target that's left.
