Phoenix Fury Legdrop 0 Report post Posted March 7, 2004 In front of an unofficial attendance number of AT LEAST 300, and probably more people.... "The Tremendous" Emil Sitoci d. Trik Davis, Cru Jones, and Frankie The Face in a four-way dance (energetic, good opener; it was said Trik's original opponent, Cash Flo, hurt himself in training and wouldnt't be able to make Highland or Oolitic this weekend; only part I didn't like is how Cru Jones took it upon himself to beat the crap out of Trik since he couldn't get over otherwise) M-Dogg20 & Josh Prohibition d. PWG's Vito & Sal Thomaselli (Best M-Dogg & Josh tag match I've probably ever seen; kept a lot more structure than usual Youthanazia matches; Thomasellis definately earned a spot in IWA, and got over huge) Conrad Kennedy III then cut a promo about IWA being nothing but hardcore, high-flying "horsefucking", as he put it, leading to... TRACY SMOTHERS~! d. Conrad Kennedy III (Tracy's appearance was a total and complete surprise, as apparantly Ian won't advertise Tracy ahead of time again since Tracy no-showed some shows in November; really good old-school style match without all the dumb stalling that's usually prevelant in Chicago-area wrestling) Ryan Boz (w/ Jim Fannin) d. "Road Dogg" BG James (Worst match of the card, imo; James definately relied on the pre-match promo shtick and wasn't planning on doing much in the ring; Jim Fannin massaging Ryan Boz's back got an "ROH" chant, to which Fannin replied, "Ryan Boz isn't fourteen years old!"; post-match, Trik Davis came out to set up himself and BG James against Jim Fannin and Ryan Boz tonight in Oolitic) In an UNBELIEVEABLE six-way woman's match, Lacey d. Rain, Daizee Haze, Ms. Chif, ODB, and Mickie Knuckles (listed in reverse order of elimination) (This, without a doubt, is one of the best North American women's matches I've ever seen; at least five standing ovations throughout the match; match was worked as heels (Lacey, Rain, Chif) versus faces (ODB, Mickie, Daizee) throughout the match, until all the faces got eliminated and only Rain and Lacey were left, when they turned on each other after Lacey laid down for a pin, but reversed it into a small package for a near-fall; Ms. Chif got herself over huge with the Highland crowd with her debut in the building on this night, and was probably MVP of a match where everyone put in a really good performance) "Anarchist" Arik Cannon d. Ian Rotten (Before the match, after the crowd chanted "Jesus Loves You" at Cannon, Arik replied, "Fuck you and fuck Jesus too!"; in a word, this match was stiff; these two KILLED each other with forearms, chops, and some of the most disgustingly hard headbutts I've ever seen; Cannon worked Ian's knee since it's common knowledge that Ian's knees are basically shot; Ian put over Arik after the match as the guy who's slided into Chris Hero's spot as the new workhorse of IWA Mid-South) Steve Stone d. Zach Gowan (Gowan's entrance lasted at least three minutes due to him making sure that every single person in the building hated his guts; Stone then came out and proceeded to chop Zach's chest until it looked identical to raw, bloody meat; Gowan did mocking Hogan poses throughout the match when he was either on offense or stalling) IWA MID-SOUTH LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE (2/3 Falls): Matt Sydal © retained over Delirious (Another really good match between these two; Delirious somehow got Mr. Belvedere over in the first fall by randomly screaming his name after a move; Sydal won the first fall after a top rope belly-to-belly suplex; Delirious won the second fall with Chemical Imbalance II (reverse pumphandle lifted into an inverted Storm Cradle Driver); Sydal won the third fall with a short armscissors after working the arm a bit early in the match; Sydal faces AJ Styles on April 10th for "Simply the Best 5", back in Highland, IN at the Lincoln Center) IWA-MS HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH (Special Troubleshooting Referee: "Classic" Colt Cabana): Jerry Lynn © retained over Danny Daniels (w/ Jim Fannin) (Cabana cut a heel promo beforehand on both the wrestlers still selling shirts and autographs at the gimmick table, and IWA Mid-South, saying ROH was now his home, and proclaimed that Jim Fannin paid him off to "call it right down the middle"; Cabana started the match with a classic "Gladiators, ready?!?!....contestants, ready?!?!" straight out of American Gladiators; really good match, and much better than Lynn's repetitive drivel these days; really close near-falls with Lynn's Air Raid Crash and Cradle Piledriver, and Daniels's regular piledriver; Cabana eventually turned on Fannin, knocked him off the apron, and counted Daniels down for the three-count, leading to a post-match beatdown on Cabana by Daniels and Fannin where they attacked his legit injured shoulder before Jerry Lynn came out to make the save) TEXAS DEATH MATCH: "Spyder" Nate Webb d. JC Bailey (JC was planning on attacking Nate before his usually amazing dancing entrance, but BG James came out of the door on Nate's cue, and distracted JC as Nate came in through the front door, beat JC up, through him back in the ring, and danced all around the building to "Teenage Dirtbag"; violent as all hell here; Nate got seven dollar bills donated by him to fans for stapling to JC's face, but JC got the advantage back and stapled all of the money to Nate's face, though Nate did staple a dollar on JC's tongue; they nearly killed themselves trying to piledrive each other through a table that refused to break; too many more insane spots to mention here; Nate got the win after a senton onto JC's head, which was wrapped in chairs, and kept him down for the ten-count after a pin) Nate then thanked Ian over the house mic for helping him grow as a wrestler since debuting in IWA-MS, since 3/6 was Nate's five-year anniversary as a wrestler, and then demanded a barbed wire tables match with JC at April Bloodshowers in Oolitic, since JC jumped him after the match. Ian came out, and refused to book it, since the stipulation went that no matter what happened, Nate and JC couldn't fight in an IWA ring for one year. Ian said he wanted Nate to see another five years as a wrestler, even though some a-holes in the crowd kept screaming for a rematch. Nate reluctantly agreed, and the show closed with Nate and Ian walking to the locker room as "Teenage Dirtbag" played again. NOTES: This was my first Highland show, and it was unbelieveable. Outside of Road Dogg/Boz, everything was at least good, and the women's six-way, Ian/Cannon, Sydal/Delirious, and Webb/Bailey were unbelieveable....Signed for "Simply the Best 5" in Highland, IN at the Lincoln Center on April 10th: "Classic" Colt Cabana vs. Danny Daniels, "The Phenomonal" AJ Styles vs. Matt Sydal, plus the IWA debuts of ROH World Champion Samoa Joe and Bobby "The Brain" Heenan...Biggest Highland crowd yet...the IWA Tag Team Title Tournament, plus Sabu's return to IWA rings, is on May 29th...IWA "Best of 2003" limited-edition (only 250 were made) are still available from the company...Show was taped on two cameras by the new production company that tapes the shows when Smart Mark Video cannot make it to the shows. JustJoe2k5 0 Report post Posted March 7, 2004 Glad to see IWA Mid-South made up for the lower attendance of the last couple of shows, and it looked like another solid show overall. Simply the Best 5 should be great.

MsChif ...MsChif...MsChif If the Gateway trio gets booked for 4/10, I'm road tripping to Chicago for sure.
Phoenix Fury Legdrop 0 Report post Posted March 7, 2004 They're booked for 4/10, and if you missed it the first ten times, Matt's working AJ Styles.
Slingshot Suplex 0 Report post Posted March 7, 2004 They're booked for 4/10, and if you missed it the first ten times, Matt's working AJ Styles. No I knew that but I live in southeast Missouri and probably wasn't just gonna haul up there for Matt vs AJ.
Phoenix Fury Legdrop 0 Report post Posted March 7, 2004 Trust me then; Ian would be an idiot not to try and get Ms. Chif in for all the shows that Matt, Delirious, and Daizee come up on. I honestly think she surpassed all the other women in the company last night as far as getting over with the Highland crowd, and surely the people who watch the tape whenever it comes out. Guest Markingout Report post Posted March 8, 2004 Do you have to go to an IWA show to buy the Best of IWA tape? I haven't seen it on SMV. The show sounded awesome. I don't understand why James gets booked. Mostly smart marks attend these shows.
Cuban Linx 0 Report post Posted March 8, 2004 The show sounds like it was very good, and it's good to see a healthier attendance figure than some of the sub-100 crowds IWA:MS has had lately.
Phoenix Fury Legdrop 0 Report post Posted March 8, 2004 The DVD's are on www.iwams.com As for BG James...he doubled attendance in Oolitic, so he draws somewhere.

Slingshot Suplex 0 Report post Posted March 8, 2004 What's my best bet of getting a ticket for 4/10? It's a long drive up there to find out they sell out.
Phoenix Fury Legdrop 0 Report post Posted March 8, 2004 I think you can e-mail Vince Jones ([email protected]) to either reserve tickets, or get the info about reserving tickets. Front row's already sold out...thank Sal for being able to reserve seats for STB during first intermission.
JustJoe2k5 0 Report post Posted March 8, 2004 Sunday, March 7th saw IWA's return to the Community Center Gym in Oolitic, IN. Here's what went down... 1. DAIZEE HAZE def. MICKIE KNUCKLES following the Daizee Cutter. 2. DELIRIOUS def. NIGEL McGUINNESS & "Metalhead" STEVE STONE in an elimination three-way dance. Stone was the first eliminated, followed by Delirious pinning Nigel after Shadows Over Hell (back splash off the top rope). 3. ZACH GOWEN def. "The Tremendous" EMIL SITOCI after using his prosthetic leg on Sitoci behind the referee's back. 4. "Road Dogg" BG JAMES & "Bones Malone" TRIK DAVIS def. RYAN BOZ & JIM FANNIN when James pinned Fannin following a pumphandle slam. 5. CORPORAL ROBINSON def. "Spyder" NATE WEBB after the Boot Camp. 6. JERRY LYNN def. BJ WHITMER (w/ Jim Fannin) to retain the IWA World Heavyweight Title following the cradle piledriver. After the match Fannin, demanded a rematch, to which Lynn said he is a fighting champion, and would give BJ a rematch on 3/19 in Salem. Notes: The event was filmed by Head-On Video Productions for home video release, with commentary by Dave Prazak, Nate Webb, Ian Rotten, and Delirious... JC Bailey required medical attention following his match Saturday in Highland, requiring five surgical staples to close a wound on the top of his head. As a result, he had to pull out of the scheduled No-Rope Barbed Wire Match for this event. IWA Mid-South return to action on Friday night, March 19th to the National Guard Armory (1100 N. Shelby St.) in Salem, IN. IWA is back at the National Guard Armory (5220 East 200 South) in Lafayette, IN on Saturday, March 27th. "April Bloodshowers 2004" will take place at the Community Center Gym (235 Hoosier Ave.) in Oolitic, IN on Friday, April 9th. Already signed is JC Bailey & a partner of his choice vs. Corporal Robinson & Wifebeater in a Fans Bring The Wepons Match. "Simply The Best 5 will take place at the Lincoln Center (2450 Lincoln St.) in Highland, IN on Saturday, April 10th. Already signed is "The Phenomenal" AJ Styles vs. Matt Sydal, Danny Daniels vs. "Classic" Colt Cabana, and the IWA debut of Samoa Joe! IWA will then return to Highland on 5/8 for an event, featuring the IWA Mid-South debut of Bobby "The Brain" Heenan! New IWA World Tag Team Champions will be crowned with a one night tournament at the Lincoln Center in Highland on 5/29. Also scheduled for that event, in singles action, the return of Sabu! For all of the latest IWA updates, call the hotlines at 502-569-1701 in Louisville, or 630-585-3958 in Chicago. Definitely not as strong as 3/6, but B.J. Whitmer vs. Jerry Lynn should've been pretty good.
LucharesuFan619 0 Report post Posted March 8, 2004 Notes: The event was filmed by Head-On Video Productions for home video release WTF? Do they not have a deal with SMV anymore? I'm confused...
Phoenix Fury Legdrop 0 Report post Posted March 8, 2004 Like I said in the thread-starting post, SMV films whenever they can get down, which is barely once a month anymore. Since people complained about the shitty quality of the one-camera non-SMV taped shows, they hired a new production company (who, outside of having equiptment that blows away SMV, really suck) to tape shows when SMV can't come to IWA. Open the Muggy Gate 0 Report post Posted March 9, 2004 3. ZACH GOWEN def. "The Tremendous" EMIL SITOCI after using his prosthetic leg on Sitoci behind the referee's back. EVIL ONE LEGGED MAN~! Ok, all joking aside, about 10 months ago, if you told me that Zach Gowen couldn't be a heel, I would believe you... but apparently he can be one. A prosthetic leg as a weapon. Haven't seen that since Diesel ripped off Mad Dog Vachon's leg.

How are defining good here? Good as in "Great for a North American women's match", or good as in "so good it could qualify as joshi!". Just curious. I'm thinking about ordering some IWA stuff......which brings me another question - is the quality of SMV alright?
Phoenix Fury Legdrop 0 Report post Posted March 10, 2004 Best American women's match I've seen just about ever, for sure. I haven't seen any joshi sadly, so I couldn't comment there. But from the anal retentiveness of joshi fans about how great their psychology is, I think this would be a bit below joshi-level. But still a crowning achievement in IWA's (and more notably, Dave Prazak's) mission to get women's wrestling over the same way men's indy wrestling gets over. Haven't seen that since Diesel ripped off Mad Dog Vachon's leg. Gowan is one hell of a heat magnet. Saturday night in Highland, he played heel better than just about everyone else on the show but Danny Daniels, and got the best heel heat I've ever seen at a live show (but nowhere near anything from back at the old Clarksville building, where Tracy Smothers incited riots almost weekly). Guest PowerPB13 Report post Posted March 10, 2004 I've been watching MsChif and Daizee Haze for quite a while in GCW(no, not THAT way, getyermindouttathegutter), and I would put them up against pretty much any women's match in North America. I've been trying to bug GCW into booking a best-of-three-falls match between the two because I think they're capable of putting on a great one...hope it happens. -Patrick
