Remember When Wrestlemania Was Exciting?

Recommended Posts

I can't get excited for WM this year when Vince wants 50 bucks for it. I think it may be a decent ppv, but not worth 50 bucks.

Oh, dont' worry. Vince will pay in the long run for his selfishness.

I know I'll enjoy it when Eddy gets sacrificed to Undertaker down the line.

And I refuse to believe that Benoit will win the belt until it actually happens.  With the AnticHHHrist involved, I know better than to have hope.

-Patrick

Why is that? Eddy won the title. Benoit came out #1 and won the Rumble. It looks to me like Vince is on a roll.

I'm not exactly sure how this build suggests that Benoit might win.

It doesn't. But they need new stars. And there's no better place to make them than next sunday. In fact, if it wasn't WMXX, I would say he probably wouldn't win.

Except for the small matter that Benoit's not winning the title. Not on Sunday, not at Backlash, not ever.

I agree, except Benoit shouldn't have been moved to RAW. We'll see what happens Sunday night and after.

They're both in main events on the biggest PPV ever, and chances are they're probably both walking out with world titles. Especially now with Brock gone. What more do you want?

Them looking strong in the process?

Besides, Benoit is not only playing 3rd Fiddle to HHH and HBK in this feud (and looking _horrible_ btw), but this feud is playing 4th Fiddle to Foley/Rock, Taker/Kane, and Austin/Lesnar. That puts him... where?

"But he's getting the belt!"

Eddie's title reign had a 3 week build and they shot him up from the midcard. That's not exactly the most ideal way to push a champion. But hey, they put gold around his waist, what more can they do, right?

Do you also hang your hat on Jericho being the FIRST EVER Undisputed Champion?

My opinions on the card:

Triple Threat - I won't be happy with the result I'm expecting, but it should be a good match.

Angle / Guerrero - I will enjoy every second of this.

Goldberg / Lesnar - I'm sad about Lesnar leaving, but kick Goldberg's ass, Brock! :D

Undertaker / Kane - This match will make or break Kane. If he loses, I'm giving up on him completely.

Rock | Foley / Evolution - Looks fun.

Cena / Show - Always enjoyed their work together.

RAW Tag Titles - Don't care

SD Tag Titles - Please let TWGTT win.

Jericho / Christian - Should be good.

Molly / Victoria - The hair stip is stupid, but should be good also.

Cruiserweight Open - Lets hope this is booked right

Divas Tag - Don't care.

I felt it all the way back last year when they started hyping Wrestlemania in like, May with the Wrestlemania Recalls and stuff.

There is no way that they could effectively hype WM XX up for almost a year and it not be a disappointment in some shape or fashion.

I would order it if it were $35, but $50 is a lot considering the DVD will probably be $25.

WrestleMania XIX wasn't a ground-breaking Pay-Per-View or anything, but I highly enjoyed it.

We had Michaels VS Jericho, Rock VS Austin and Angle VS Lesnar at least.

Sorry about that last post - the thread was sitting idle for a while and the last post that I had was Dangerous K89 bashing WrestleMania XIX.

I still have to laugh at the idea of America having to pay $50 for a PPV. Five hours or not, that's just stupid.

Australia = Normal price.

I haven't been excited for a PPV since Starrcade '97. That show will put a damper on any PPV buying for any sane mind.

Anyway, the whole problem with this PPV is that OMG EVERYTHING IS THE MAIN EVENT! The WWE has given the same amount of build to like five different matches and its made the whole show a bit of a morass with two distinct catagories of 'care' and 'don't care'. There is no sense of proportion that tells us that the Eddie-Angle feud (for example) is the big draw and hence, nothing is. Everyone is either in a main event or in a match that doesn't mean dick with the exception of Jericho-Christian which is a midcard match if I've ever seen one.

Indeed - us Australian folks get it for regular Pay-Per-View price.

I've been pondering that for a while - rather ironic when you think about it, isn't it?

Goodear, I agree with you to an extent regarding build-up. WWE are trying to make this their greatest show ever, something that they obviously have failed in - they are trying to give everything huge build-up.

The main/dampeners are the respective Tag Team Championship matches.

I mean, there's no sense of psychology at all between the teams, unlike the Tag Team Championship Triple-Threat Elimination Match at Survivor Series 2002.

They're just being thrown into the ring at once as filler, to put the Championship on the line, and because they're there.

With the Benjamin & Haas/APA segment on SmackDown!, that was meagre hype at it's most exploited - WWE think 'Oh well, we haven't done much of a job so far, so let's make these guys impersonate these guys'.

Bullshit.

In the latest Raw VS SmackDown!, I, in fact, praised Raw's Tag Team Division.

Maybe I went a little over the top - and maybe I was just clinging to what may have been some good. When comparing Divisions, Raw may come out on top - slightly. Why? Maybe because the guys there are more over, and seem a hell of a lot more comfortable.

SmackDown! are too busy fuck-assing around to actually develop their teams - but Raw are not patron saints either.

But apart from that - I guess you could say that I'm happy with majority of the Pay-Per-View. Majority of it.

Like I said, I enjoy watching them...but I'm at the point where I wonder what the damn point is when I know they'll never be pushed like they deserve to be AND will be held back by the "WWE style" which was designed to protect all the old fossils that are still on top.

-Patrick

I hope the main event is 30 seconds long, comprising of Triple H pedigreeing both HBK & Benoit, piling them on top of one another and then pinning them with one finger.

I also hope Taker gets a title shot at Backlash, no-sells all of Eddie's offence, and beats him with one move.

That sure would fuckin' rule.

Care to have a wager on that? I bet twenty he has the title before the end of April. Come on, put your money where your mouth is, Mr. Negative.

Bullshit. Maybe Brock/Goldberg and that's it. Yeah, it was fucking stupid of them to end the Raw before WM with Rock/Foley but that doesn't mean their match is more important than the main event.

And so what if he looks worse than HHH and HBK right now? As long as he looks strong at WM, who cares?

If they plan on putting the title on him it wouldn't make any sense to have him beat up all the top guys every week. That would just leave him without anyone to fight or anything to do after he won it.

What about the webcast for $25?

the dvd will be 34.99 most likely as its a THREE DISC dvd....

But if you get the dvd you can keep it or if you order it...you can tape it...

Bar Live...DVD later is the way to go.

I'm excited about it because I know that this will be the one show all year where no one will dog it.

Done! Consider $40 in the post if Benoit hasn't had a taste of gold by May 1st.

...

That was fun!

The thought of Chris Benoit never going over for a "big" Championship is a frightening one.

But, "Mr. Negative," I have faith, just like majority of anyone else worth talking to, that Benoit's getting the job done at Backlash (not literally, of course), thus reigning supreme.

I wanted to end on that note, I really did, but I have to clear something up - the first part of that last paragraph may be right, but, unfortunately, probably not the second part.

For me, XX looks to be what could be the best one yet. I started watching wrestling at Nitro parties in '97. Two guys that always stuck out to me were Eddy and Benoit. Now their headlining WrestleMania.

Plus Brock and Goldberg, something that I've wanted to see since Brock's first appearance in the WWE.

While the card certainly has it Goose Eggs, the card as a whole is Incredible. I'll gladly pay Vince his ransom and I won't complain either.

I don't believe that WrestleMania XX will be the best one yet - or will it?

Three or more matches have the potentials to be some of the greatest ever.

I believe that the anticipation of Brock VS Bill was simply because of their comparisons, and because it is an obvious promoter's dream.

Ever since I can remember, I have always been excitied for a WM. Even though the card is weak in some spots, I can see some matches carrying it to be one of the top 5 WM.

I don't care about "star power." I will watch a WM no matter who is on top, just because it is WM. I haven't missed one since I have started watching wrestling (SS 91, so since WM VIII). I didn't see WM 2000 on PPV because my Aunt died. However, since I had all intentions of seeing it, I don't count it.

If you can inform me exactly WHY you would have any faith at all in this company to do the right thing, after the past three years, please inform me.

"Because it's WrestleMania"? Yeah, that sure helped Booker T last year.
