A question about Kerry's "off the cuff" comment

Recommended Posts

Guest thebigjig

I noticed that whenever Kerry would whine about republicans questioning his patriotism, the conservatives in this thread made an issue out of it, and rightfully so...

however, where are they now that the Republicans are whining and crying about Kerry's live mic gaffe?? Doesnt it seem a little strange to some of you how the Republicans are demanding an apology and calling it uncommon of a presidential candidate to make such remarks... completely ignoring the "major league asshole" comment made by candidate Bush in the last election??

It was OK for Bush to call that reporter a "major league asshole" because he's a member of the LIBERAL MEDIA!!

I personally don't see what the big deal is about Kerry's comment. I mean, it's not that far off from what he's been saying publicly. If the "major league asshole" comment didn't hurt Bush, this isn't going to hurt Kerry.

And Bush wasn't talking about his opponent. And "crooked liars" is more serious than "major league asshole".

But I don't think it's a big deal.

How is that more serious. If someone called me a crooked asshole...

You know...there is some homoerotic themed joke I could make here, but I can't quite put my finger on it...hmm...

Nevermind.

Did Bush ever publicly apologize about the "major league asshole" comment?

or misleading (at least trying to anyways) about the presence of WMDs in the Iraqi desert?

Yup, the same WMD that nobody said Iraq lacked.

Dang him for listening to the intel of, well, every country on Earth.

Personally, I don't understand why the President's Men have their panties in a bunch over this myself.

Oh, and Bush apologized that people heard his remark, not that he said it, which was great. He didn't blame the Liberal Media, then another wacko group the next day...

Hm. Maybe Kerry intentionally said what he did so the Bush camp would react and demand that he apologize; thus leaving them open to be called out on the "major league asshole" fuck up.

Nah. That's extremly unlikely. But you never know with politicians...

If Bush never apologized, then he did the right thing... A candidate shouldn't have to apologize about crap like that when they think they are doing it privately.

No, it doesn't seem strange.

No double standard should be applied. If Kerry's going to portray everything critical said about him as an attack upon his patriotism, then he shouldn't then be given a free ride to say what he wants about Republicans in return.

Oh, and there is no such thing here as "he didn't know the mike was on." I'm positive that 99.99% percent of the time, politicians in general know what is and isn't said off the record. A ploy by Kerry to reference the "asshole" comment? Not likely, as that incident was years ago and most people have forgotten about it (or just don't care) - but I can see this as a move by Kerry to cause a little controversy and portray him as being somewhat "edgy".

Well, Clinton just flat out lied... that merits an apology

Of course, the question should have never been asked, and I would've had an amazing amount of respect for him if he would've just said "I'm not going to answer to these allegations because whether I did or didn't, it's none of anyone's business"

instead he continued to cement his status in history as a running joke
