Guest Anglesault Report post Posted March 20, 2004 I thought 'funky' made its way into white america last decade. Not as a verb. Will some people please explain who or what is being funkied?
Guest Adrian 3:16 Report post Posted March 20, 2004 You've honestly never heard the term "funky" used to describe someone who smells bad? And I didn't even ask if you use it yourself, I'm saying you've never HEARD it?! Quick question for you KC- how old are you exactly? We know Anglesault is a 75 year old man trapped in the body of someone in his late 20's, I'm wondering if this is a pattern around here or you really are just old and out of touch. So, yeah...I'd say I'm past my prime. Someone pass me my carpet slippers.
CanadianChick 0 Report post Posted March 20, 2004 Alright, even I know that funky is used to describe something smelling bad. But you got to admit, in the interview as a whole, a person who isn't up to date with their urban slang might have a problem knowing exactly what they are saying. Guest Adrian 3:16 Report post Posted March 20, 2004 16...going on 17. So, yeah...I'd say I'm past my prime. Someone pass me my carpet slippers. So you're a 17 year old kid (I'll be generous and round up), and you've never heard that term and are trying to lecture me about the "Queen's English". This is funny and sad at the same time. I really don't get why people who come out and admit they don't like Cena, Method Man, or rap in general would read an interview between the two of them to begin with, let alone be surprised at their use of slang. I've heard of it, but not in the way he used it. I've never seen someone "funky" Uh... its not a verb, and no one but you said it was. "they funky" in this case equals "they ARE funky". Is that what you wanted to hear so bad? Its slang, get over it. I think I've figured out why AS has always bitched about Angle not being potrayed as a serious enough character. His original uncool goody two shoes persona that most people laughed at wasn't funny to him, because he thinks just like that and wanted the character to be serious. This explains a lot actually. "As they say in the streets... 'my bad'."

"Are" seems to be the type of word that has to, in one form or another, stay in the sentence. I've never heard the word funky being used by anyone to describe somebody's body odor. Only to describe the appearance of something. A quick survey I just conducted has 3/4 people not knowing that funky can be described as somebody's body oder. The one person that knew only "knew" because food can be defined that way. Guest Brian Report post Posted March 20, 2004 As far as I'm concerned, dropping are is just the next logical step after a conjunction. It been going on for years.
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted March 20, 2004 As far as I'm concerned, dropping are is just the next logical step after a conjunction. Eh, I don't know. I thought the verb was aways at least somewhat necessary.
Guest Brian Report post Posted March 20, 2004 If one can make the connection, it's not absolutely necessary. That's essentially what conjunctions are born out of; a need for simplicity, and the evolving casualness of language interspersed with the proper bullshit. I think it's roots are in early creole. AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted March 20, 2004 I think you mean CONTRACTION, not conjunction. Contractions omit only a letter or two, not a whole word.
Guest Brian Report post Posted March 20, 2004 As far as I'm concerned, they both serve the same purpose and come about in the exact same way.
ant_7000 0 Report post Posted March 21, 2004 I thought KC and the Sunshine band broke it down with play that "funky music" so I know some guys know what funky is. But then again it is a wrasslin board. Maybe if the Interview was in the kligon language some you guys would understand it. Its funny I've seen so much stuff from this board from what does OD'ed mean to how do people who wear braids wash their hair. You lame nerds crack me up. ant_7000 0 Report post Posted March 21, 2004 I thought it was KC and Sunshine band, whatever. I know Vanilla Ice made a remake to the song as well, wasn't Vanilla Ice popular to you guys. (Joking)

Honestly, if this interview is what's cool, I'd really rather be lame. As far as I'm concerned, they both serve the same purpose and come about in the exact same way. Contractions and Conjunctions? Just Kidding you. Really, though I don't think some form of a verb between a noun and an adjective or adverb is "proper bullshit"

Speaking of Vanilla Ice, let's remember that Cena started this gimmick by dressing as Vanilla Ice for Halloween.
King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted March 21, 2004 What the fuck is a 'kligon'. How is this interview 'cool'? How am I lame for knowing what the rap meaning of 'funk' is, but not why the fuck they use it? Why is someone calling us a nerd when they can't get their facts straight? I really don't get why people who come out and admit they don't like Cena, Method Man, or rap in general would read an interview between the two of them to begin with, let alone be surprised at their use of slang. I have no problem with Meth, so to speak. Cena has been one of the more entertaining things on Smackdown in the past few months. And while I don't LOVE rap music, I certainly don't hate it. Hell, I like D-12's new song for some reason...even though according to my taste in music I really shouldn't. Lapdance by N.E.R.D is one of my favourite songs right now. So, I guess my problem is with people who don't speak properly.

But then again, I've been around the development of the language and vernacular since the 70s, back when it really was called jive by those who didn't know better. Hey, I'm also a wrestling fan. I don't care for some of Cena's offensive raps but I have liked his gimmick at times (the retro video game stuff owns) and am a fan of his dedication to get better in the ring. So of course I'm going to read the article. The article itself only takes about 1 minute to read so why wouldn't you read it. Jeesh, I'm the one getting tired of people not understanding and presuming the worst on how people who aren't familair with another language would read an article with said language in it. Maybe they're just trying to understand something?
