The OAO Who Should TNA Bring In Thread

They're going to need some talent, especially if they get on TV:

The guys with some name value TNA should grab are:

- RVD: Too obvious. Carried ECW. Loyal fanbase, good worker, a draw. Would be the opening salvo in a promotional war. Gives TNA main event scene credibility

- DDP: Former WCW champ, not a bad worker, willing to do jobs and put guys over. Gives TNA more cred.

- Sean O'Haire: Was pushed by WCW as the next big thing... not really hurt by WWE stint. Great look and some cool moves for a man his size.

Obviously, Kanyon, Spanky, and any indy guy who can go in the ring are no-brainers.

People employed by WWE don't count since...they are employed by WWE. Otherwise we could argue that Benoit should come in.

I highly doubt RVD will go anywhere. He's heading towards a main event push on Smackdown come summer. Oddly enough, when his contract comes up to be renewed...

If the price is right, I think RVD will stay put. Besides. I don't think from my POV he should be in TNA. But some people will think his aura of "Great wrestling" will draw more people.

Only problem is would TNA be able to afford him if he did leave WWE and work for TNA now and then.

Not so sure about that. Meltzer says there are no plans to elevate him, and that he's going to remain behind Guerrero, Taker, and Cena as a babyface.

He'll be getting markedly more money from WWE and will be in front of actual crowds and will be seen by actual people.

Heck, if WWE offered AJ Styles a decent deal, he'd jump ship, too.

TNA is in business until WWE decides to end it.

...And should they ever "steal" a talent, you'd see a talent raid that'll make you remember the 80's

RVD's contract expires in 3 months though, and no deal has been made. We'll see what happens.

I talked to someone who's really good friends with RVD this past weekend and they said he's (and I quote) "absolutely miserable in WWE." I don't think he'll last much longer.

RVD has always said he doesn't need to stay in the WWE to make money. He has his own business (RVD's Five-Star Comics) and has enough name value for the US indies and Japan to name his price for appearances. If he's unhappy in the WWE, then I can see him leaving this summer

It sure seems like all that talk he and WWE did a few months ago about talking about a new contract was just lip service. He didn't want to get any more heat than he already had, and they wanted to save face a little bit. I'm not sure what he's making now, nor do I know what his downside in his next contract would be, but I'm pretty sure if he worked TNA every week and 2 shots a weekend, he could probably pull in close to $250,000 with the price he would go at. Maybe even more. Plus, he wouldn't have to pay for rental cars or hotels, something he has to for WWE. So really, I think he is a guy who could make more outside of WWE.

Umm, he can do $250,000 working for TNA and 2 indy shows a week?

That's an, uh, OPTIMISTIC outlook.

Honestly, I could care less if he leaves. His ring work is rather weak as is.

Right now TNA pays a few guys $1,000 a week. They surely would pay him more, but for the sake of argument, let's say they'll pay him that. Terry Funk makes $2,500 an indy appearance right now and he is the top paid indy talent. RVD's name means a lot on the indys, and if he could get that 2 times a weekend, that'd be $5,000 a week without TNA. Add it up.

You're going with the assumption that they CAN pay him that much. If they do, they will almost never use him (see Sting).

Heck, I'd love to see RVD in the indies. It'd be much easier to ignore him when I can't ever see him.

Weren't you saying in another thread that KID KASH should be considered for Champion?

How can you put over Kash and dog RVD in the same folder?

Kash blows more spots in one match than RVD does in a year.

My fondness for Kash has nothing to do with his ring work (he's better than JJ, I'll give him that) --- it's the personality. He OOZES heel heat. He OWNS the crowd in a way JJ never has and never will.

RVD is a tepid character. Why on God's Earth should I CARE what he does when he, apparently, does not. And, heck, I find Kash more entertaining in the ring, to boot.

RVD is terrible. Hardly my fault. I've gone over his list of problems in the past, but unless you want the RVD marks to go nuts, I'll avoid it now. He's a crap worker with no mic skills, no ring psychololgy, and a startling inability to work an entertaining match.

He and Sean O'Haire are the internet's "hosses" --- guys who the 'net loves for no good reason.

Surprisingly I'm going to sat Ekmo. I was really digging the Samoan SWAT Team thing with Sonny Siaki.

American Dragon, I think Tenay and West can pull off selling him right to the audience. They just have to hammer home that he's trying to ground the X division guys.

RVD, he may suck in the ring but the guy's a draw. I think it's very possible as it would allow him to run his comic book shop.

Top guys in TNA get 2,500 a week, except for Jarrett who gets $3,000.

Thats because he pretty much runs the company every day of the week. So it's expected for him to get more money.

I guess it depends on who you define as top guys. Raven makes 1,500 each Wednesday, Styles makes a lot less, even less than he does when he works RoH, as does Daniels. Abyss does not make 2,500 a week, nor does Killings. Who are these top guys you speak of? BG James?

Raven is the highest paid @ $1,500 or so a week. Where $2,500 came from is beyond me. He must've been reading Scott Keith's fake rumors because he's a 35 year old virgin with a bad haircut.

Yeah from what I know Raven and Styles are the top paid and they make 1500 and 1000. I don't see how they are paying top guys 2500 when that was a huge reason why Funk never came in. I think Hall didn't even make that when he was doing the shows.

Yeah you are right. The top guys get like 1,500 a week. Funk wanted 2,500 to come in. I just got the numbers mixed up in my head. Funk did come in though for a couple of meaningless appearances(so I can understand why you would forget them).

Oops, meant that's why Funk never came in until recently.

On another board, somebody mentioned the one thing that would prevent Dragon from really connecting with fans --- he does his best work in longer matches (15 minutes and up) and TNA just doesn't DO matches that long terribly often. He's a solid worker (though I do think if he makes it to a big promotion in the U.S, he'd need to wear a mask again), but his STYLE might make connecting to the fans a challenge.

Scott Hall made $7,000 (yes, that's right) per show.

And TNA showed business smarts and no longer overpay (OK, Luger aside) talent to that degree. That will prevent Hogan and the Outsiders from ever appearing --- but that is a good thing.

Prince Nana would do TNA wonders. Also the Cristopher Street Connection and Rollin Hard.

Didn't Styles turn down a WWE deal a couple of years ago?

Having only seen a few Prince Nana matches, and none of them any good, might I ask what people see in this guy?

Yup. $500 bucks a week. A WEEK. He makes double that for 1 TNA show.
