Friday the Thirteenth, Halloween and Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho are among my favourites of all time.

This has been done a hundred times, but what the hell.

 

Despite the fact it could never have existed had more influential horror films come before it, Scream is, by far, the most terrifying movie I've ever seen. I was only 11 years old when I first saw it, and was looking over my shoulder whenever I was alone for about 6 months after it.

 

Just a brilliant, clever movie.

Not bad, Brocklock - The Texas Chainsaw Massacre would be one of/the best there, in my opinion. I can't believe that I forgot to mention in in the opening post.

Halloween 1 was great. 2 was good. 4 and 5 were passable for slashers. But 6-8 were complete balls. H20 didn't offer one likeable charcter, and that started their trend of not killing rappers and pop stars in horror movies.

 

Kelly Rowland died in Freddy vs Jason. She took one for the sake of horror.

 

But anyway...

"Let me handle this bitch!" line in FvJ? That one had me rolling for about 10 seconds before the poor schmuck Freddy had possesed gets owned by Jason.

Nothing tops the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Gritty, all sorts of fucked up, and incredibly artful, taking itself seriously in a way that few low-budget horror movies do. That it manages to still be scary and demented to all of us who grew up amidst a flood of the gratuitous in horror movies is pretty great.

 

Closest runner-up for me is John Carpenter's remake of The Thing, which has a serious, bizarre spirit that's very much like that of TCM.

...it's hard for me to find a non-zombie horror movie that I adore, honestly...

Like, TCM is, personally, very boring to me until the last 20 minutes, when it shows the most intense scenes I've ever witnessed in a film. Just the whole "kill 'er, grandpa!" scene gets me, and I'm legitimately shocked by it every time.

Eh...I find the scene where he shoots up the druggy chick a little funnier. "What a rush!" I think was the line. Also cheesy, but gets laughs as well.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre is not only my favorite horror movie, it's my favorite movie of any kind. I like it so much, that I even like all the sequels and the remake.

Honestly I just have to say all horror. From obscure Italian gorefests to rehash teen slashers in the wake of Scream, I can watch all and find something redeeming. It's what I love.
