packwingfn Posted April 9, 2004 Report Posted April 9, 2004 well, it just ended. sharks won poor osgood, i like him.
the max Posted April 9, 2004 Report Posted April 9, 2004 I find it hard for myself to get excited about Sharks v. Blues, when I don't really like either team.
Der Kommissar Posted April 9, 2004 Report Posted April 9, 2004 Wow. The Sharks, Lightning, and Senators won, while the Devils lost. Pretty good day of hockey for me. Hope it keeps up.
CanadianChris Posted April 9, 2004 Author Report Posted April 9, 2004 Only one road team won in the first set of Game 1s. I hope that doesn't mean that the first round will go according to form...
Dogbert Posted April 9, 2004 Report Posted April 9, 2004 Nah. One game does not a series make. At least a few road teams will come back in the second game. Chief among those... <------------------
The Czech Republic Posted April 9, 2004 Report Posted April 9, 2004 I find it hard for myself to get excited about Sharks v. Blues, when I don't really like either team. I cannot name one San Jose Shark and they're #2 in the West. Meanwhile the only Blue I know is Al McInnis and I think he has to retire...this is not a compelling series AT ALL, yet it's being televised while the Battle Of Ontario and even Devils-Flyers go unshown.
Guest FrigidSoul Posted April 9, 2004 Report Posted April 9, 2004 I still can't believe that purple Scott Keith is your team's mascot
The Czech Republic Posted April 9, 2004 Report Posted April 9, 2004 I still can't believe that purple Scott Keith is your team's mascot PurpleKeef, properly called Badaboum!, isn't the Senators mascot, he was the old Nordiques mascot. Since he didn't make the move to Denver, I adopted him as my OWN mascot.
Guest FrigidSoul Posted April 9, 2004 Report Posted April 9, 2004 I admit, I'm a casual fan and have been since like 95 due to the Bruins sucking massive nutsack for most years up until now.
CanadianChris Posted April 10, 2004 Author Report Posted April 10, 2004 THIS is the Senators mascot, Spartacat:
KingPK Posted April 10, 2004 Report Posted April 10, 2004 I thought the refs usually call FEWER penalites in the playoffs? The refs doing Bruins/Habs have been calling every little thing. It's really disrupting the flow of things. EDIT: What a shitty goal for Theodore to give up. Bruins win in OT, go up 2-0.
packwingfn Posted April 10, 2004 Report Posted April 10, 2004 Andrew Raycroft, who is having an awesome rookie season and probably should win rookie of the year. Can't forget his own teammate, Patrice Beregron has had an outstanding season himself, especially only being 18!!!
CanadianChris Posted April 10, 2004 Author Report Posted April 10, 2004 Iginla gets his first career playoff goal...1-0 Calgary early.
The Czech Republic Posted April 10, 2004 Report Posted April 10, 2004 Okay, WHAT THE HELL! They're calling penalties on EVERYTHING in these games! Especially Stars-Avs, nothing is going unseen here! It's insane! Every freaking thing is a penalty! What the hell is next, "Mike Modano, two minutes for squinting"? Jesus!
Drury37 Posted April 10, 2004 Report Posted April 10, 2004 I am up for like a 4 overtime game tonight, anyone else? Thanks.
Urban Warfare Posted April 10, 2004 Report Posted April 10, 2004 Eeep....Even as a Canucks fan, I know Vancouver's first goal should not have counted, as Kiprusoff was clearly interfered with.
Drury37 Posted April 10, 2004 Report Posted April 10, 2004 Wow the crowd in Vancouver singing in the Canadian National Anthem was awesome and I live in Connecticut, USA and I still think it was awesome!!! Thanks.
Guest FrigidSoul Posted April 10, 2004 Report Posted April 10, 2004 I fell asleep with a migraine as regulation ended on the Bruins game. At least it wasn't some 3 OT gem of a game afterwards.
Urban Warfare Posted April 10, 2004 Report Posted April 10, 2004 Tough loss for Vancouver tonight. Hopefully they can bounce back and take at least one game back in Calgary.
Guest Posted April 10, 2004 Report Posted April 10, 2004 3 of those goals in that Avs-Stars game should not have happened. Either bad defense or a fluke.
nl5xsk1 Posted April 10, 2004 Report Posted April 10, 2004 The Andrew Raycroft-Jose Theodore matchup, which is what so many people said would be the Bruins downfall, has been severely tilted towards "Razor" through 2 games. Yes, I'll admit that 2 games is far from a full series, let alone an entire postseason. But Raycroft has stopped 56 of 57 shots through 2+ games, and the only one that he let win was on a 5-3 penalty kill (in which neither penalty should have been called). The officiating was fucking brutal in the Boston-Montreal game tonight, and is all that prevented Raycroft from having back-back shutouts to start his postseason career. And come on, Czech Republic, how do you know so few Sharks or Blues?? San Jose I can kind of understand, they basically reinvented themselves these last few years, but St Louis has half a dozen major names other than Macinnnis (Pronger, Weight, Tkachuk, Demitra, Osgood, Jackman, Weinrich). Even SJ has Damphousse, Ricci, Marleau and Nabakov. I understand that they're not all household names, but you've been posting in the hockey threads all year.

You forgot to mention Koivu's stick was inside of Raycroft's pads pulling him away from the puck during the shot. The NESN replay showed it clearly. I hope to god that officiating team isn't allowed near another game this post season

Hasn't Barrett Jackman been out all year too?I guess now that you reminded me, I do know a couple other Blues. Sharks, however...I could've sworn Damphousse was with the Canadiens or Flyers.
treble Posted April 10, 2004 Report Posted April 10, 2004 Luckily for Raycroft he's played against a team that was horrible for the first 4 periods of the series. He has played well, but he hasn't been challenged much, either. And only in the NHL could the #2 and #3 overall teams be basically unknown.

Well when the only teams you show on national television are the Red Wings, Stars, and Avalanche, what do you expect? Speaking of the Avs, isn't this the first year since 1994 that the Nordiques/Avalanche were not division champions? Nine straight years is impressive however.
treble Posted April 10, 2004 Report Posted April 10, 2004 Yeah. They kept saying that they're 9 year streak on top of the Northwest division was over, but that division didn't even exist until they went to 3 divisions. In '95, the Nords won the Northeast, then from '96 until they went to 3 divisions they won the Pacific, and they won the Northwest from then until this season.
Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Posted April 10, 2004 Report Posted April 10, 2004 Dipietro rocked the party today. All of this talk about Raycroft, Legace, Aubischer, and others has overshadowed this young guy. As I expected, the Lighning have looked weak in this series. The Isles have a tremendous defense, well 4 defensemen. Now with Blake back in the line-up, they're going to be even tougher. Also, the Isles have one of the best home records. Its looking good for NY
TheOriginalOrangeGoblin Posted April 10, 2004 Report Posted April 10, 2004 SJ looked much better than I expected. I still think they're sitting ducks to lose in round 2(against anybody Van, Col, Det, Cal or Dal) but they looked dominant today. Nabokov is SO overlooked it's not even funny. Raycroft and Theo get a lot of press and, obviously, Brodeur but Nabokov has outshined them all so far. But it's time for the main event tonight. TO must win or they're done. And I'm going to game 4 so here's to an Ottawa sweep.
Guest FrigidSoul Posted April 10, 2004 Report Posted April 10, 2004 TCR, just out of curiousity why aren't you a BlackHawks fan? Just wondering since IIRC you live in Chicago.

Sadly, no...the refs gift-wrapped this one for Toronto after all Pat Quinn's bellyaching. They refs felt bad enough for Ottawa that they tried to give Ottawa a couple of even-up opportunities, but no dice.
