Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Posted April 16, 2004 Report Posted April 16, 2004 Learn to count, my ass! I haven't seen that particular episode in a while... Damn it, you should've stolen the line "Crap, My Ass" from Friday the 13th Part V, which has been reviewed already.
Use Your Illusion Posted April 16, 2004 Report Posted April 16, 2004 My fave is the one with Michael Jackson in it. It has some witty title that escapes me now. UYI
Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Posted April 16, 2004 Report Posted April 16, 2004 My fave is the one with Michael Jackson in it. It has some witty title that escapes me now. UYI I think it was called Stark Raving Dad.
Guest I Got Banned for Sucking Posted April 16, 2004 Report Posted April 16, 2004 Dammit! I was going to give the title! And I stole no line from Friday the Thirteenth Part V.
Agent_Bond34 Posted April 16, 2004 Report Posted April 16, 2004 Wasn't that Michael Jackson episode the one where Homer gets put in the asylum for wearing a pink shirt to work, or am I getting that mixed with something completely different?
Damaramu Posted April 16, 2004 Report Posted April 16, 2004 I don't understand the hate for Maude's death. I thought it was kind of funny. Of course you do - you hate everyone. But maybe because they feel the same way as Homer did/does about her. I didn't mind the death either - it was an entertaining episode, but whether or not her death was intended as ludicrous, how the hell could apparel shot out of a t-shirt cannon possess the velocity to push you back so much so that you fall of the back of a set of bleachers? I fail to see how me hating everyone has anything to do with liking the episode. I want to know why everyone hates that episode.
ArkhamGlobe Posted April 16, 2004 Report Posted April 16, 2004 Stark Raving Dad features one of my favourite bits of dialogue from the series: Burns: Why is that man in pink! Smithers: Oh, that's Homer Simpson, sir. He's one of your boobs from Sector 7-G. Burns: Simpson, eh? Burns: Well, judging by his outlandish attire, he's some sort of free-thinking anarchist. Smithers: I'll call security, sir. Burns: Excellent. Yes, these color monitors have already paid for themselves... As for favourite episode, that's a tough one. It's a toss up between Cape Feare and Homer vs the city of New York.
Damaramu Posted April 16, 2004 Report Posted April 16, 2004 I also remember the Radioactive Man movie episode......that one was pretty damn funny. But I haven't seen a lot of these episodes in like forever. They seem to only want to play either the new stuff....or the old stuff I hate. None of the old stuff that rocks.
Use Your Illusion Posted April 17, 2004 Report Posted April 17, 2004 I only found out recently that Michael actually did the voice (not the singing however) for his character in Stark Raving Dad. Apparently, he had hand-picked someone who sounded like him to sing for him, as the producers could not afford to have Jackson do both talking and singing roles. I always thought both were impersonated. UYI
Guest I Got Banned for Sucking Posted April 17, 2004 Report Posted April 17, 2004 Stark Raving Dad is a great episode. The voice of Leon Kompowski was done by John Jay Smith.
Boner Kawanger Posted April 17, 2004 Report Posted April 17, 2004 The voice of Leon Kompowski was done by John Jay Smith. John Jay Smith is Michael Jackson.
k thx Posted April 17, 2004 Report Posted April 17, 2004 Yep, the same as Sam Etic (sp?) is Dustin Hoffman in that episode where Lisa gets a cool substitute teacher. Hence the joke in the Itchy and Scratchy movie about the stars where they weren't credited but you could tell it was them. Jackson also wrote Do The Bartman IIRC.
Nighthawk Posted April 17, 2004 Report Posted April 17, 2004 Cofirmed that MJ wrote Do The Bartman. It had some line in it about wanting to be bad like Michael Jackson. You'd probably wonder about that if you didn't know he wrote it.
The Amazing Rando Posted April 17, 2004 Author Report Posted April 17, 2004 I don't understand the hate for Maude's death. I thought it was kind of funny. Of course you do - you hate everyone. I fail to see how me hating everyone has anything to do with liking the episode. I want to know why everyone hates that episode. I don't hate the episode at all. The woman that did the voice was gone due to contract disputes, and even though they had hired a replacement to do a few lines here and there for her (and the other characters the woman did), they found that since she was a pretty big supporting character (being as she is one of the Simpsons' neighbors) they decided to do the soap opera-y thing and kill her off. Some saw the death as a last "f-u" to the voice actress, showing her that they were definitely never going to bring her back, and it also gave Ned's character a whole new emotional level of dealing with a really tragic loss. "The Simpsons" have put the axe to a few other characters, two "on screen" deaths (Bleeding Gums Murphy, Frank Grimes) and one "off screen" (Marvin Monroe). Maybe there are others, I can't remember any off the top of my head. They weren't as big of characters as Maude, but at least BGM left someone feeling tragedy (Lisa) while the others just kind of happened.
Guest I Got Banned for Sucking Posted April 18, 2004 Report Posted April 18, 2004 The voice of Leon Kompowski was done by John Jay Smith. John Jay Smith is Michael Jackson. Coming from my trusty episode guide. He is? I thought that named sounded familiar...
Garth Posted April 18, 2004 Report Posted April 18, 2004 Jackson also wrote Do The Bartman IIRC. Yeah Micheal definatly wrote it, I was watching the extras on the season 2 dvd's and one of them is the "do the bart man" video and theres also it with commentary where they talk about him doing it.

Coming from my trusty episode guide. He is? I thought that named sounded familiar... ....You thought J.J. Smith was a real person?.... Also, Michael Jackson didn't do the singing of the happy birthday Lisa song because he didn't want to, not because they couldn't afford him. Listen to the commentary of the episode. M.J. came to them to do the show, but he only wanted to do the speaking voice. The song at the end was an impersonator, but some of the writers/staff still think Michael slipped in his own copy to the audio director or whoever was in charge. And do the Bartman was a cool song, despite crappy animation, but I liked the Deep Trouble song better.
DerangedHermit Posted April 18, 2004 Report Posted April 18, 2004 Thankfully Fox 5 in NY has been showing a lot of good episodes lately as the've been going through Season 4. Got to see a lot of classics (Duffless, Itchy and Scratchy Movie (Mmmm...soylent green), Mr. Plow, Marge vs. the Monorail (mono...D'OH!), Last Exit to Springfield)
Use Your Illusion Posted April 18, 2004 Report Posted April 18, 2004 The guy who does Mr.Burn's voice (he also does several others) was on a talk show here in Australia and said that it was due to financial reasons that MJ didn't sing.

So you're believing a voice actor over Matt Groening, Sam Simon, Jim Brooks and whoever else made the show? for shame UYI...for shame...

UYI, what show was that?
Guest JumpinJackFlash Posted April 20, 2004 Report Posted April 20, 2004 Two Cars in Every Garage, Three Eyes on Every Fish is my favorite. It is really funny for an episode in season 2, when the animation wasn't up to par. I just love the Montgomery Burns parody of Citizen Kane!

Nighthawk Posted April 20, 2004 Report Posted April 20, 2004 Now I need some filling in. How did that happen?
