fairtoflair7 Posted April 10, 2004 Report Posted April 10, 2004 Just saw and and i don't give a rats ass what some critics said....This was a great movie...told a great story...like Risky Business but up to date. All I have to say is WOW. Elisha Cuthbert is stunning. I recommend this movie to everyone.
Guest Choken One Posted April 10, 2004 Report Posted April 10, 2004 NO! STAY AWAY! It's an horrible movie. Go watch Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind instead... This movie is SOOOO weak, horrible plot, horrible script, horrible characters, horrible pace...So many contrived and trite characters... A utter bore of a Teen Comedy. Weak. Ruined a very good premise with your basic "Dork meets hot girl, gets hot girl, loses hot girl, wins her back" plot line. If you enjoyed this movie Either you are A) 12 years Old B) Eugene's Brother I'll spoil the movie here... Eliza Cuthbert is FUCKING HOT but she doesn't do anything. Nothing here will make you go "holy shit"...The crowded crowd of Male teens and college boys that packed the theatre was QUIET the whole time...no reactions. No laughs...NOTHING. Just so horrid.
Mole Posted April 10, 2004 Report Posted April 10, 2004 Well I usually agree with critics. EW gave it a B-, but 411 gave it a 2.5, which equals to a F. I'll got with EW over 411. However, there aren't many movies that I'll see in the cinema.
SpikeFayeJettEdBebop Posted April 10, 2004 Report Posted April 10, 2004 Damnit, is it good or not? And actually, it's been getting pretty good reviews from what i've seen. I sorta wanna see this, but I sorta dont.Elisha Cuthbert is always stunning, infact I will go look at pictures ofh er and also moving media in the form of my 24 DVDs. This shall hold me off. I guarentee you it will.
fairtoflair7 Posted April 10, 2004 Author Report Posted April 10, 2004 Well the whole theater seemed to enjoy the movie after. I heard nothing but praises. Just go into it with an open mind and you will be surprised. I can say that I enjoyed the movie completly
Mole Posted April 10, 2004 Report Posted April 10, 2004 I won't see it in the theaters, it will be a HBO view for me.
Guest Choken One Posted April 10, 2004 Report Posted April 10, 2004 I went in with a VERY OPEN MIND. I knew it wasn't going to be a GREAT movie like ESOTSM was...I came in expecting light funny humor with a little sexuality thrown in...got none of that. One scene made smirk...that was about it... The crowd sat there in BORED TEARS. Countless times I caught people looking at watches...staring at the walls... another thing that made me mad More people LEFT GND then even saw ESOFTPM the two times I saw it combined... The first time, It was ALL ME in a theatre that held 235 people...and the next time...about 3 people counting myself. it's sad that Horrible Movies like The Girl Next Door will draw enough to be considered a success and horny 15 year old guys will tell other 15 year old kids "OMG! THEY SHOWED A TIT!" and they plop down 8 bucks because of that... While brilliant work like ESOTPSM goes unnoticed.
Guest Choken One Posted April 10, 2004 Report Posted April 10, 2004 I won't see it in the theaters, it will be a HBO view for me. don't bother. Watch the 1836th running of The Mighty Ducks 2 instead.

Watch the 1836th running of The Mighty Ducks 2 instead. HeyZOOS, is it really that bad??? Apparently, I will MAKE 24 hold me off...Oh yes it will....holding me off till next Tuesday, in which i will get about 45 more seconds of my lovely Elisha.....

She doesn't expose anything that you haven't seen... if you are going just because of her...you are wasting your 6-10 bucks... You can get your jollies looking at a screen cap and save yourself from the other hour and half of your life wasted sitting in that theatre.
Guest OctoberBlood Posted April 10, 2004 Report Posted April 10, 2004 It's a great movie. I saw it about 4 weeks ago. Loved every minute of it. Go watch it.
Guest Choken One Posted April 10, 2004 Report Posted April 10, 2004 How can you "LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT"? when every minute was complete and utter crap.
Guest Posted April 10, 2004 Report Posted April 10, 2004 It's all opinionative. Don't get your panties up in a bunch.
Guest OctoberBlood Posted April 10, 2004 Report Posted April 10, 2004 Exactly. And plus, I don't rate this kind of movie with Lost and Translation, Apocalypse Now, or Eternal Sunshine.. it's just in a total different category. It does what it does and it is what it is - a fun, enjoyable, mondern day risky business. A teenie film but not quite the bopper. Like I said 4 or so weeks ago, much better than the overrated American Pie series.
Dangerous A Posted April 10, 2004 Report Posted April 10, 2004 This movie is SOOOO weak, horrible plot, horrible script, horrible characters, horrible pace...So many contrived and trite characters... This statement also applies to Walking Tall. I just snuck into it today and Choken's words perfectly describe Walking Tall. (I know I am going off topic) I wouldn't recommend sneaking into Walking Tall. It's that bad. Now if The Girl Next Door is as bad or worse than Walking Tall, then you already have your 2 worse movies of the year within a week of each other.
NoCalMike Posted April 10, 2004 Report Posted April 10, 2004 The local paper here gave GND (zero stars) legit. At first It figured it was our usual local guy hating on anything with "toilet humor" and his hate for it alone, made me want to see it, but now after my peers are actually re-inforcing the zero stars rating, I have decided not to see it, and for Walking Tall, it never really crossed my mind in the first place to see it anyway.
AndrewTS Posted April 10, 2004 Report Posted April 10, 2004 "The previews don't really do it justice!" Good Lord the new commercials with the "spontaneous" comments from "sneak preview audiences" suck. So, apparently they either: couldn't find positive comments from critics the advertising department sucks some one thought hiring a bunch of actors covering various demographics and gushing out praise would be a good ad campaign those are real audience members who think that, in which case I still don't care because plenty of people loved Bad Boys II.
Slayer Posted April 10, 2004 Report Posted April 10, 2004 Good Lord the new commercials with the "spontaneous" comments from "sneak preview audiences" suck. That's a new concept? I thought those have been around for awhile Hell I haven't seen so many in recent years compared to old, maybe because people finally realized that commercial makers aren't going to air the negative comments. "Yeah that movie totally sucked my left testicle, man!"

Like I said 4 or so weeks ago, much better than the overrated American Pie series. At least American Pie delivered what it promised... GND failed to even do that or give us characters we could care about... Who cares if the smart but shy guy nails the Porn Star...at least with American Pie...they were more identifable with. Yes, clearly GND is in a different catgory then Eternal Sunshine(one's shitty and the other is brilliant) but Even in the GND'S genre it was HORRIBLE.

This guy put it the best about the commiercals and a he writes a great review, which really sums up my opinions, of it here: http://www.flipsidemovies.com/girlnextdoor.html Read it. And no Choken One, it seems like you just don't get the movie. It's not about some kid banging a porn star, it was more than that, you just didn't pay attention obviously. Oh and I care about the American Pie characters? Uh no. They were all idiots. AP was certainly not more identifable with for me.
1234-5678 Posted April 10, 2004 Report Posted April 10, 2004 Uh no. They were all idiots. AP was certainly not more identifable with for me. So what you're really trying to say is, you're a geek who wants to nail a porn star........ And I'm not going to sit here and let you badmouth Shitbrick either, lol.

Max Danger Posted April 11, 2004 Report Posted April 11, 2004 Shrug. I liked it. Sure, I'm a complete Elisha mark and will watch anything involving her no matter how bad it is, but this wasn't offensive or anything. I, by the way, went in expected absolutely NOTHING because I had read a few reviews(Roger Ebert gave it 1/2*, hey, half a star better than North ), and most that I read didn't really care for it, so I set my expectations really, really low, and was pleasantly surprised. But, again, Elisha's my future wife, so take that for what you will.
Max Danger Posted April 11, 2004 Report Posted April 11, 2004 As an added note, the crowd I saw it with was probably the most responsive audience I've sat with in a long, long time. It was mostly college aged people. They were shouting at the screen(in a good way), laughing, and just having a good time. Yeah. That's all.
Jobber of the Week Posted April 11, 2004 Report Posted April 11, 2004 If you've never seen a C-cup tit before, I can understand how you might find this movie exciting. This movie was pushed back from it's original opening date and I don't understand since Hellboy will absolutely slaughter it for dollars. The ads just simply kept running, and a lot of people think the movie has been in theaters for a number of weeks when it only just premiered. To make it worse, the adverts highlight the raunchyness of it as though it's some kind of Vince Russo production, but the actual film doesn't have the guts to go that far.
AndrewTS Posted April 11, 2004 Report Posted April 11, 2004 It ranked tenth during Friday's box-office numbers. Hellboy and the Passion are duking it out for the number one position right now. Yeah, I know those "real people viewpoints" ads aren't anything new... From another MB: "I first took notice of these 'have the audience sell the flick' ads back when PORKY'S came out. I remember the critics really HATED this thing, so instead of the usual blurbs from critics, they had these little pictures of "Joe & Jane Average" (you know, Trailer Trash: REAL PEOPLE -- JUST LIKE YOU & ME!!! (well, as the marketers viewed the audience))gushing over how funny the movie was. I felt unclean just reading the ads."
Art Sandusky Posted April 12, 2004 Report Posted April 12, 2004 Whatever, bump the haters. It was teh win.

Get really good critic reviews but do the fan commercial where they all say how bad the film is, then say "Well, the paid actors didn't like it, but the critics did" followed by the critic statements then the name. I'd go then
