syxx2001 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2004 PHOENIX (AP) - A woman who prostituted her 13-year-old daughter in exchange for crack has been sentenced to 20 years in prison and ordered to spend the rest of her life on probation. JoAndrea Peeler, 37, was sentenced Friday under a plea agreement that forbids her to have any contact with her daughter, unless the girl initiates the contact on her own and her therapist approves. Peeler avoided a potential 200-year sentence when she pleaded guilty in February to one count of child prostitution and two counts of attempted child prostitution. Peeler was arrested in August when she arranged a meeting to buy crack but was met by police. She admitted using drugs with her daughter and arranging for the girl to have sex with men in exchange for drugs, police said. Before Peeler's arrest, Child Protective Services had received complaints that the girl had been left home alone. The girl was released to a relative but no one discovered the teenager's drug addiction, and she was returned to her mother, authorities said.
Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted April 11, 2004 why would they give somebody a 200 year sentence? Do they actually believe that somebody will live that long? Up until 50 years ago making it past the age of 60 was a big deal...no way somebody lives for 200 years anytime soon.

You can't get parole after 10 or 20 years on a 200-year sentence, like you could on a life sentence. Figure that one out.

Guest I Got Banned for Sucking Report post Posted April 11, 2004 Dammit FrigidSoul, you took what I was going to say. Yes, why don't they just say "You're in the slammer until you perish." That's probably what they'd do if someone actually outlasted such an over-the-top sentence. There are some fuck-ups in the world - plain and simple.

Slayer 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2004 Before Peeler's arrest, Child Protective Services had received complaints that the girl had been left home alone. Well, at least she wasn't alone as first thought... And really, what's so unusual about a 13 y/o being home alone, unless they meant she was left alone for LONG periods of time without any support, but they never state that

Probably because you can start to whiddle down the sentence with good behavior. Even though it's a lot of years, it's not officially a "life sentence", or someone that can never, ever leave, no matter how reformed they get.
Guest MikeSC Report post Posted April 16, 2004 You think prostituting your daughter for crack is bad? This, possibly is even more heartless. MIAMI, Florida (Reuters) -- A Florida teen charged with hiring an undercover policeman to shoot and kill his mother instructed the purported hitman not to damage the family television during the attack, police said Thursday. Police in the southwestern Florida city of Fort Myers arrested the boy, 17-year-old Carlos Chereza, Tuesday on a charge of soliciting to commit first-degree murder. Tipped by an informant that Chereza had offered to pay to have his mother killed, an undercover detective posed as someone willing to do the job, Fort Myers police said. Chereza offered the detective $2,000 that he expected to inherit from his mother's bank account, and gave him the keys to the family apartment, a map of the apartment and a picture of his mother, the police report said. He asked that the shooting be made to look like a burglary, it said. "Carlos stated that he didn't want anything to happen to the television," the detective wrote in the arrest report. Police arrested the teen immediately after the meeting with the detective, and the mother was unharmed. Police spokeswoman Kara Winton said the motive was related to domestic problems within the family, but declined to elaborate. http://www.cnn.com/2004/US/South/04/15/hit...reut/index.html Damn. -=Mike
