Favorite Baseball Moments Ever..

Recommended Posts

Johnny Bench night - Johnny is being honored as a Red about five games before he retires. Very nice little ceremony before & after the game. But... during the game, Johnny comes up to back and jacks one out. Crowd goes nuts... I'm standing on the couch at home cheering... my mom is crying...

Doesn't get better than that for a "moment".

4.) Minor one here: Tino Martinez' first at bat against the Yankees since leaving. The crowd gave him a well desserved standing ovation, and he hit a home run to boot. One of the rare times I cheered AGAINST my team. I was always a Tino fan, and still am.

I was at this game!!! OMG WHAT A GAME AND JUST A GREAT NIGHT!!!

Thanks.

I'll add another minor one: Edgar Renterias game winning hit in Game 7 of the 1997 World Series. I was pulling for ANYONE To beat the Indians (for the obvious reasons) and made me mark.

Yeah, so sad how that one turned out, huh?

Anyway, another big one I left out

Wade Boggs on the horse.

And a minor one, but still one I love:

Mattingly eating the kid's popcorn.

1997, as a young 15 year old...watching hopelessly as Jaret Wright shut down the Marlins for 7 straight in Game 7 of the World Series. They could barely muster a single. All of a sudden, Bobby Bonilla comes to the plate. He had been one of my least favorite players that postseason, making errors and generally ruining things with his injury. Blasts a deep shot to left and the Marlins have life. Then, the 9th rolls around. Still 2-1. It's already after midnight and I have to get up at 6:00 AM for school. Craig Counsell hits a sacrifice fly and the Marlins are tied and going into extras. Bottom of the 11th...Counsell gets on, and Edgar Renteria singles up the middle, driving in Counsell who leaps into the air and the camera catches it perfect with the fans going absolutely apeshit behind him, and then they show the replay of Renteria rounding first base with the biggest grin on his face, flipping off his helmet as he ran. I played baseball until I was 19 and I always wanted to hit a walkoff homerun and celebrate the exact same way. That was my favorite moment...until this year.

Games 5 and 6 against the Cubs. Beckett's masterful performance and the comeback and Bartman ball. And then Games 4 and 6 of the World Series. Alex Gonzalez's walkoff HR and then Beckett shutting down the Yankees.

For me it would have to been a game in Kirk Gibson's last season in Detroit. He comes up to bat in the bottom of the ninth i beleive and proceeds to hit a walk off homerun, the crowd is going nuts and then Gibby gets the curtain call. He retired a few weeks later and it was definitely one last great moment from one of the biggest stars of the 1984 Tigers team.

1995:

Baerga flies out to Grissom. The Braves win the World Series. Probably the best moment in my life.

1999:

...and he walks him!!!!!

Kenny Rogers walking in the winning run pretty much got me my ass beat at school the next day but I didn't care- that was such a great game.

2001:

The Braves had a terrible season and a lot of people didn't give them a chance against the Astros and they went out and destroyed them in a three game sweep. Sure the D-Backs kicked their ass in the next round but I was satisfied with that Astros sweep.

(I know AS is hanging his head in shame right now)

D-Backs v. Yankees. Game 7. Bottom of the 9th.

That almost makes up for Jimmy Leyritz.

Almost.

Whatever same thing...you knew what I meant.

Just to clarify, do you actually hate me or just the fact that I really like the Marlins?

Hey, its about baseball MOMENTS. How can the future nullify the euthoria we felt in the present? If the Braves lost, it doesn't change the excitement Barron felt at that point, when the Braves beat the Astros.
