spiny norman 0 Report post Posted April 18, 2004 I know this is kind of strange, but lately I've discovered that I have this strange gift which I thought everybody had: I can hear things without being clinically insane. And then tonight I discovered my cousin has the same thing. See, if a TV is on mute and I'm out of the room or it's accidentally been put on AV I will know because I can hear this high-pitched noise that comes from it. Also, at the end of Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band, when John Lennon puts the dog whistle at the end to send the dog crazy, I can hear it. I always assumed that these things were the norm, but I discovered that nobody else in my family has the ability to hear such things. Are my cousin and myself freaks, or are there other people in the world (or at least on here) with such an ability?
Guest croweater Report post Posted April 18, 2004 It's quite surprising that you'd be able to hear a dog whistle. Please, use this power for Good not Evil.
Art Sandusky 0 Report post Posted April 18, 2004 I hear that stuff too. I thought it was universal.

I think everyone can hear a TV on a blank A/V feed, Spiny. IU can always tell when we're watching a video in class when I walk into the classroom without seeing the blue screens on the TVs in the room, because I can hear the HPN. Guest Choken One Report post Posted April 18, 2004 I can hear those sounds and I'm partially deaf...So I don't see why you are bragging about this "ability".
Firestarter 0 Report post Posted April 18, 2004 This is caused by tiny hairs in the ear continuing to vibrate as a result of sudden, extended, or extreme exposure to a sound after the sound has ceased.

Jingus 0 Report post Posted April 18, 2004 High-pitched hearing ability is a damn curse. I can hear the filaments vibrating in light bulbs, which generally means I can only get to sleep in a darkened room. But yeah, most people hear the noise from TVs and monitors. spiny norman 0 Report post Posted April 18, 2004 Huh, my family must be strange then. Because I always thought it was universal too until last night when they were all shocked I knew the TV was on. But dog whistles are strange? I still have that one, right?
