I think the poor reviews hurt "The Punisher" and I can't understand the poor reviews at all.

It's a damn good movie and a perfect franchise starter.

 

I think it would have done better to fall back to next weekend against "Man on Fire" and "13 going on 30" instead of going against Kill Bill V2 like it did.

 

I hope this doesn't hurt the chances of a sequel cause I want to see this become a franchise. However, I think it may have died already.

Kill Bill is where I expected it to be, but I expected Punisher to do alot better. It seems that audiences are liking Punisher, so hopefully it won't fall too much next week.

The Disney brand name has about as much value as WCW these days, aside from the theme parks. Just look at how horrible the new animated movie did too. Alamo is suprisingly a good movie, but nobody will see it because of the bad buzz surrounding both the film and the company, and because of the stench of Pearl Harbor, a movie many people feared Alamo would be like.

"The Prince and Me" looked like a young girl movie and it failed badly.

 

I don't see "13 going on 30" being the big surprise film but I think it will do well.

 

I think "Man on fire" will do much better since it's Denzel returning to a role very much like "Training Day". I'm going to go see it, that's for sure.

Have reviews really been that bad? The one's I've seen have been somewhat mixed, but the worst review I read had the film at around two stars (out of the standard 4), which isn't great but it's not as if it got totally panned. I've seen a fair share of decent to good reviews of the flick, and the people in the theater when I saw the film seemed to enjoy it.

 

I'd like to see this become a franchise as well. It has greater potential.

I think it's stuck suffering under the Super hero movie banner right now.

 

X2 and Spiderman have set the bar so high that it'll be hard for many comic book films right now.

Well it's best to ignore any review that says "worst movie of the year" about a movie that clearly isn't.

 

Not liking a movie doesn't make it total cinematic trash. No matter how imperfect Punisher may or may not be, it will be much better than whatever the real "worst movie of 2004" happens to be.

A lot of Punisher comic fanboys seem to have a problem with the film. It apparently isn't even focused on the Punisher character for a pretty good portion of it, just on the wacky neighbor types. But thats just what I've heard second hand.

 

Kill Bill 2 is a somewhat niche market but it is a woman kicking the shit out of a lot of people and other women do tend to enjoy it. I think it has a fairly wide appeal, film critics/buffs tend to like Tarantinos stuff a lot, young males will like violence, women will like the female empowerment and sentimental ending, so yeah, bit more than a niche movie. It's downright pop culture like frankly.

Well, I hate to break it to you but "Family" movies aren't big box office movies. They have smaller budgets so they will make more money, but they aren't breaking many records.

Cartoons are a different kind of family film because they can draw more people. For example, I'll see any Pixar movie because they are all so damn good. But you would never catch me paying to see 13 Going on 30. My point is that I'm not counting cartoons in my calculations, but I put them in the top 100 anyway.

 

Only 10 of the films in the Top 100 are family films, that aren't cartoons. Family films aren't the biggest draws; action movies are. 41 action movies are in the Top 100, which is the majority.

 

Besides, 13 Going on 30 is actually a romantic comedy. There are only 5 romantic comedies that are in the Top 100 and 5 romantic comedies from 101-200. There are 30 action movies from 101-200.

 

Kill Bill Vol. 2 is a action movie.

13 Going on 30 is a romantic comedy.

 

If you go by the numbers, Kill Bill Vol. 2 has a "bigger market" than 13 Going on 30.

Prince and Me looked fucking terrible. Even a young girl could see that. The trailers for What A Girl Wants (the Amanda Bynes movie with a similar plot, except with a lost father) looked much better, and had a more marketable star.

 

13 Going on 30 will do pretty well. It actually looks like a half interesting movie, despite the whole BIG connection, and seeming like a pedophile paradise.

 

Mean Girls will do well. Lindsay's last movie, Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen, had horrible promotion. Mean Girls, however, will likely get better than normal reviews (written by Tina Fey), and has a better campaign.
