I thought the Phillies were hovering around .500 and was shocked to see they're like 5-11 when I checked the standings today. They are equipped with such a good club that its an insult to the fans to keep a man like Bowa who knows nothing except how to get ejected running that team. Phillies should grab Willie Randolph since the Yankees extended Joe Torrie's contract.

Is the half step that Glanville may be faster worth taking Burrell out in the 7th inning when he'll be up again? It is stuff like his Glanville use and Hernandez use that makes it too easy to pick on Bowa. Â BTW, I was laughing my ass off the other day when I heard a caller on WIP say that Glanville should be the leadoff hitter, because all he does is get on base. I was going for a good two minutes off that one.

Bored Posted April 24, 2004 Report Posted April 24, 2004 A minor concern of mine going into this season about the A's was Barry Zito. He struck out 8.6 batters per nine innings in 2001 but was all the way down to 5.4 strikeouts per nine innings last season. Even in his seemingly good outing against the Angels last Sunday Night something didn't seem right with him. Tonight he faces the Angels again and they've scored already nine runs in four innings and already completely blown out the A's tonight. Â Obviously tonight isn't the norm and every pitcher has an outing where they just get shelled. But for whatever reason he is just not the same pitcher he was two or three years ago. It can't be age as he turns 26 next month. It's not arm problems as he's been the healthiest of the Big Three to this point and the A's do a very good job with not over using their pitchers in their first couple of years in the league. It's possibly a lack of focus as he seems more concerned with off the field projects like music and acting during the offseason than pitching.

Eh, the Pirates are looking absolutely pathetic lately. They've got some young talent, but they seem incapable of taking advantage of opportunities. I thought they were going to make things interesting in the ninth when Wilson led off with a double and they had the heart of the order coming up. Of course, they proceeded to go down in order. Â And the Yanks looked horrible tonight. AS complaining tonight is justified. And you know things are slow when A-Rod getting an infield hit is considered a big success.

Just typical Graves. He's had one, maybe two, 1-2-3 innings this year, out of 10. He's been like that his whole career, and last year showed how bad and how lucky of a pitcher this guy his. Jim Bowden was a complete moron (BREAKING NEWS~! ... not) to give this guy such a contract. All of those runners he allows to get on base in the little 9th inning he's always pitched, piled up last year. You give any starting pitcher the presence of just going 1 inning every night, and he'll put up good to great numbers most of the time. I don't care if your name is Jimmy Haynes, or John Smoltz. Chris Reitsma is also a very good example of this. Â But I've gotten use to the simi-heartattacks in the 9th innings over the last few years. Â Good game tonight though. Larkin made some very fine plays and is starting to hit again. That is good news and if he continues to do so, I'll be ok with him in the #2 spot. Javier Valentin should be cut very soon, with Romano claimed and Larson ready to come back (this weekend or monday, most likely).

Â The good thing about the O's getting the down teams early is it gives the young pitchers confidence in their stuff and confidence in the defense/offense. Nothing can be more important for a young pitcher than winning ballgames. Â I think they could hover around .500 all season and possible be a couple games above it at the least.
