Guest Jack Spicer Posted April 24, 2004 Report Posted April 24, 2004 Which is better? My choice is between Direct tv, Dish Network or Time Warner cable.
the max Posted April 24, 2004 Report Posted April 24, 2004 TW Cable is good, especially if you are living in Florida, as with the constant storms and rain, having a satellite that goes out in the weather is a bad thing. Only thing is that TW is EXPENSIVE.
Guest Jack Spicer Posted April 24, 2004 Report Posted April 24, 2004 I'am in Houston, Texas and we get a lot of bad storms. Does a satelite dish perform bad in crap weather?
the max Posted April 24, 2004 Report Posted April 24, 2004 That's what I'm told by a lot of people. Some on this board might be more helpful along those lines though.
Kahran Ramsus Posted April 24, 2004 Report Posted April 24, 2004 I'am in Houston, Texas and we get a lot of bad storms. Does a satelite dish perform bad in crap weather? I'd get cable then. See with me, satellite is the way to go. I shuffle around from about 4 different homes throughout the year (Ottawa, Ocala FL, Woodville ON, Bowmanville ON), and with the dish I can just put up a dish at each place, bring the reciever with me and have it all one one plan. With several people living at the different places, we can also use the dish in all four places at the same time, and pay for one plan. There are more channels, and it is cheaper, but given your weather situation and I assume that you are rather stationary in terms of where you live, cable might be better.
Guest The Notorious CRD Posted April 24, 2004 Report Posted April 24, 2004 I'd take cable over satellite any day. I've had both and like cable much more.
MrRant Posted April 24, 2004 Report Posted April 24, 2004 Try cable first since there is no contract... if you don't like it... switch.
LaParkaYourCar Posted April 24, 2004 Report Posted April 24, 2004 I have Digital Cable at my house and it's great. I live in Houston too and it does storm a lot. I'd go with Digital Cable personally, but to be honest I've never tried Satellite.
Guest Vitamin X Posted April 24, 2004 Report Posted April 24, 2004 I definitely would get cable, digital cable specifically. Satellite is better than regular cable, but digital OWNS. I really dislike the unreliability of satellite, myself.
razazteca Posted April 25, 2004 Report Posted April 25, 2004 Well I know a friend who uses one of those cards to get "free" satellite feeds and nothing is better than the 200 or so movie channels showing the same thing all week.
kkktookmybabyaway Posted April 25, 2004 Report Posted April 25, 2004 I've always been content with my cable, from Time Warner to Comcast...
Astro101 Posted April 25, 2004 Report Posted April 25, 2004 I'm from Houston as well and get DirecTV. It goes out during those thunderstorms, but that's like a few times every few months or so. I just like the selection of channels it has. I have a "friend" who has those hacked cards...it stopped working recently.
MrRant Posted April 25, 2004 Report Posted April 25, 2004 DTV is sending out new cards that are supposed to be very hard to hack and destroy themselves if tampered with.
El Psycho Diablo Posted April 25, 2004 Report Posted April 25, 2004 Get Digital Cable. I'm from Houston, too..and my cable's never given me any problems. There are a bunch of channels, and the Video On Demand is nice, though they don't tend to update it very often. Digital's a bit more espensive than normal cable, but it's worth having it.
Guest Jack Spicer Posted April 25, 2004 Report Posted April 25, 2004 I was looking over the channel lineup and saw Disnsey East and Disnsey West. I also saw this with some other channels like Nickelodeon/Nick at Night east&west . Is there a difference between east and west cost?
Astro101 Posted April 25, 2004 Report Posted April 25, 2004 I think it's just some show delays. Like West's stuff is a few hours later than East's?
Kahran Ramsus Posted April 25, 2004 Report Posted April 25, 2004 It is so you can watch them at different times. Say if you are out all night, you can come home and watch primetime stuff at midnight. Or if two shows you like are on at the same time. For the main networks you will find that they have them not just East & Pacific, but for Central & Mountain times as well. On those you will find different shows generally with the exception of their netional broadcasts.
Tawren Posted April 25, 2004 Report Posted April 25, 2004 I love my digital cable. Way faster and better than satellite.
Kahran Ramsus Posted April 25, 2004 Report Posted April 25, 2004 They make VCR's too Yeah, but the quality of tape is really shitty.
the max Posted April 25, 2004 Report Posted April 25, 2004 Depends on the VCR. Mine still tapes excellent.
Astro101 Posted April 25, 2004 Report Posted April 25, 2004 Mine only records at midnight. Stupid flashing 12:00.
Guest stardust Posted April 25, 2004 Report Posted April 25, 2004 I know that Time Warner was normally pretty good while living down in Waco. Up here in Denton we have Charter, and it has yet to go out, and we've had some pretty major storms (including the hour-long tornado warning last night and yet amazingly enough we never lost power or cable). We had DirectTV when I was in high school, and that never went out, either, that I remember, whereas when my ex-stepfather decided to get a satellite dish that wasn't such a great idea since we often wouldn't have very good reception, especially during the springtime.
syxx2001 Posted April 25, 2004 Report Posted April 25, 2004 Im from Houston as well and everyone knows during the summer it rains like a bitch, so stay away from satillite for that reason. I like my digital cable box. It has the music channels and stuff in the 700s and when I first got it Ghostwriter used to come on Noggin. Man that made my day. Come home at 5:00 and wait for Ghostwriter to come on at 6. Anyway, digital cable.
razazteca Posted April 25, 2004 Report Posted April 25, 2004 I'm from Houston as well and get DirecTV. It goes out during those thunderstorms, but that's like a few times every few months or so. I just like the selection of channels it has. I have a "friend" who has those hacked cards...it stopped working recently. My friend pays $20 a month to get it reprogramed..........its cheaper than basic cable which is $40!
MrRant Posted April 25, 2004 Report Posted April 25, 2004 Not going to happen with the NEW cards. It's not the same one.
razazteca Posted April 25, 2004 Report Posted April 25, 2004 The cards can last a month to 3 months, not bad for $20.
Astro101 Posted April 25, 2004 Report Posted April 25, 2004 Dang, lotta people from Houston here in this thread. BEAT L A!
Guest Jack Spicer Posted April 25, 2004 Report Posted April 25, 2004 What are these music channels? Do they play music videos or just audio music?
Guest stardust Posted April 25, 2004 Report Posted April 25, 2004 Well, there are more video channels, but there are also channels that play just music when you have digital cable. It's kinda like having something for almost every taste in music.
