NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted April 29, 2004 Anyone seen the trailer for this yet? The Village I have, and since his movies ALWAYS have a twist, I kind of have an idea of what this one might be, but I will use spoiler tags...... I have a feeling that there really are no monsters in the woods, and that this movie actually takes place in present time. This is probably an amish community and the elders are in on the "monster" thing. It is a way to keep everyone in the village and to prevent them from moving through the woods to see present day modern society and wanting to leave "the village" Thoughts? Downhome 0 Report post Posted April 29, 2004 I do not have a good feeling about this one. The Sixth Sense was great, but it's only really good the first time you see it in my opinion. I enjoyed Unbreakable, but it was seriously lacking in more than a few areas and did not live up to The Sixth Sense. I enjoyed Signs for the first half of it, and then it apparently decided to go the way of bullshit. The last part of that film killed it for me. So cliche, so many holes, and just plain flat out bad. I do like the trailer for The Village, but I'm not holding my breath for it to be anything more than average. It may be good that I'm thinking this way about it, because if it ends up being pretty good, I'll like it even more since I'm going in with such low expectations. I saw the trailer when it first hit the internet, months ago, but I didn't think anyone would care enough for me to post it here.

NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted April 29, 2004 the biggest problem with M. Night's films now, is that everyone knows each film is leading to a big twist, and everyone just goes to theater to try and guess the twist.....sometimes OUTLOUD, DAMMIT. I actually think the trailer looks good, but if my guess about the ending is right, I wish I would have never seen and just had it recommened to me by someone else..... Downhome 0 Report post Posted April 29, 2004 If your guess about the ending is right I'll think about walking up to the projection room and then taking a great big ol Downhome Dump all over the film.

That's actually a really good theory you came up with, Mike. Never thought of it and I've known about this movie for a while. Raza- I don't think I've heard anything about people dying when they leave the village. Just something to the effect that the humans have had a deal with the beasts that live in the forrest and that something has happened that has spoiled the deal and now they have to deal with the consequences. razazteca 0 Report post Posted April 29, 2004 Was this movie based on an episode of Twilight Zone or something?
C Dubya 04 0 Report post Posted April 29, 2004 You know, I actually think that M Night's twist ending to Sixth Sense had a general bad effect on all movies for the next couple of years. It seemed that half of the movies that came out after SS was successful forced some kind of twist into them that were completely unnecessary. Signs didn't really have a twist though, did it? Maybe the Village will be a straight forwardish kind of movie. I look forward to it regardless.

Nighthawk 0 Report post Posted April 29, 2004 If he was smart, he'd be putting twist after twist after twist into all his movies, before releasing his masterpiece which will feature no twist at all. Now that would be shocking.
bobobrazil1984 0 Report post Posted April 29, 2004 I can't wait. I enjoyed 6th Sense, Unbreakable (very underrated), and Signs, all immensely.
NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted April 29, 2004 The biggest twist of all really, would be if the Village was a straight foward movie. LOL.
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted April 29, 2004 I was just on Aint It Cool News reading Moriarty's review of the script from Sept of 2003 and apparently Mike is as close to dead on as you can get with the ending. Keep in mind this is September of 2003 we're talking but........ Joaquin Phenoix's character makes it out of the woods, only to encounter a pickup truck whose driver looks at him and says "Stupid fuckin' white people." I am not making that up but if it's the ending, God help us because the theatres will have riots on their hands.

I think the overall movie could be great, and the twist in that script would actually be good, but if that is the exact ending that happens right before the "fade to black" then the theater will indeed riot. There is also resistence to that script with a lot of people claiming it is a fake. So who knows.

2GOLD 0 Report post Posted April 30, 2004 I've had enough of M Night. He hasn't come close to fooling me once. It destroys a movie when you know the ending before it happens. The Village doesn't look worth a damn. It looks very boring. I'll go see THE WOODS when it comes out, and no it's not the same movie. THE WOODS might go straight to DVD but if it doesn't, I'll go see it over this.
