Nevermortal Posted May 2, 2004 Report Posted May 2, 2004 This album is bad-ass. It easily trounces "Grand Declaration of War", which I thought was a piece of shit. In fact, this could even be better than "De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas". It's the best Black Metal album I've heard in a while.
The Metal Maniac Posted May 2, 2004 Report Posted May 2, 2004 I have that album on my PC somewhere, I think...maybe I'll listen to it sometime.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted May 2, 2004 Report Posted May 2, 2004 I don't like it nearly as much as Nevermortal does, but I'm a black metal detractor.
Red Hot Thumbtack In The Eye Posted May 2, 2004 Report Posted May 2, 2004 I think this is my album of 2004 so far. The formula still works and adding elements of the wildly technical clinical blackness of Grand Declaration (which I still love to this day) seals the deal for me. Mayhem kicks your guts and makes you piss bile
snuffbox Posted May 2, 2004 Report Posted May 2, 2004 I saw them opening the Slipknot/Jager tour a week ago...pretty intense show. I felt the pit for days.
Red Hot Thumbtack In The Eye Posted May 2, 2004 Report Posted May 2, 2004 were you able to avoid getting hit by sheep skulls and shit? Did Maniac bleed on you?
Slayer Posted May 2, 2004 Report Posted May 2, 2004 I go to Amazon to check out some sound samples and the fuckers don't have any up... guess I'll have to get a song or two from Kazaa My CDOTY (granted, I haven't heard too many) is still Glorious Burden
Red Hot Thumbtack In The Eye Posted May 2, 2004 Report Posted May 2, 2004 The Mayhem official site sound clips can be had here
snuffbox Posted May 2, 2004 Report Posted May 2, 2004 You may all ignore me... Im thinking of a considerably different band.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted May 2, 2004 Report Posted May 2, 2004 Hey, it's May now. That means there's a new DEP next month, I think.
Slayer Posted May 2, 2004 Report Posted May 2, 2004 I listened to the one full song on the site ("You Must Fall") and all I have to say is "meh" One of the reasons I tend not to like the "tr00" (as Tack would call them) BM songs is because of the lack of variety/changeup in a song... constant 240 beats-per-minute drumming gets tiring fast
Nevermortal Posted May 2, 2004 Author Report Posted May 2, 2004 I can't even compare Mayhem & DEP. They're just toooo different. However, I would compare Chimera to be hit in the face with a sledgehammer repeatedly for like a hour. It's just that heavy, people. And as for Chimaira, they're decent. I like that song "Down Again".
Red Hot Thumbtack In The Eye Posted May 2, 2004 Report Posted May 2, 2004 A Slayer, if you want diversity, listen to some cuts off of A Grand Declaration Of War
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted May 2, 2004 Report Posted May 2, 2004 Mayhem > > > DEP Mayhem is a better story than they are musicians. Dillinger's more diverse, and dare I say wildly frantic and abraisive. Grindcore/Black Metal fights are the best.
Guest Vitamin X Posted May 2, 2004 Report Posted May 2, 2004 Mayhem > > > DEP Mayhem is a better story than they are musicians. Dillinger's more diverse, and dare I say wildly frantic and abraisive. Grindcore/Black Metal fights are the best. Seconded. I've heard the term "Gayhem" used to describe them a few times, not personally from me.
Guest macheteofodin Posted May 3, 2004 Report Posted May 3, 2004 I only heard the one full song available on their website ""You Must Fall," but wasn't too impressed. I was actually one of the few that really enjoyed "Grand Declaration..." because it sounded insanely militant and I can't stand Maniacs "black vocals." For the most part I do like Mayhem and all, but sometimes their goofiness (like most Death and Black Metal bands that play the Satanic card) causes me to just role my eyes and not get into the music. I won't judge the whole album by that one song, so I may pick it up eventually.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted May 3, 2004 Report Posted May 3, 2004 I've heard the term "Gayhem" used to describe them a few times Vitamin X knows a couple grind mutants...
Guest Blas Posted May 4, 2004 Report Posted May 4, 2004 Chimera is definitely a great album. Easily their best in 10 years. My favorite song on that album is "Dark Night of The Soul"
Nevermortal Posted May 4, 2004 Author Report Posted May 4, 2004 Might be my favorite disc of 2004 so far. You know, until God Among Insects gets released. That'll fuck us all up, hardcore.
