Your favorite team's worst coach

Recommended Posts

Phillies - Terry Francona. Bowa may need to be fired, but he's had 2 winning seasons at least. Francona hasn't won shit. I know he's in Boston so Theo can tell him who to play but Red Sox fans, you thought Grady was a pushover, yeesh.

Flyers- Don't really know who

Sixers - Doug Moe or John Lucas. Moe was a horrible coach with bad talent, Lucas won 13 games in 1995-96. Take your pick.

Eagles- RICH KOTITE. I can pick out many, like the time they lost to Dallas because Kotite's chart ink ran in the rain. I blame this on that asshole Norman Braman, since he hated Buddy Ryan, and had a choice between defensive coordinator Jeff Fisher and Kotite. May have won one playoff game, more than Ryan did, but was benefitting off Ryan's players.

Marlins: Jeff Torborg. Couldn't coach worth a damn, had his son Dale (The Demon) chase down and beat up Antonio Alfonseca for being soft. Is pretty much the reason AJ Burnett's arm fell off, and also had the Marlins 10 games under .500 when they had all that talent last year.

Giants: Ray Handley. RAY MUST GO! RAY MUST GO! Man, I hated him.

I only really watch baseball and football.

Oh, that's easy. I mean.. TOO easy.

Bob Boone.

He's a nice guy and all, but he's not fit to manage. Not ever again.

Note: This only covers within my lifetime and maybe a couple years before, since I'm not hunting back to the WW2 era or before for this.

Minnesota Vikings: Les Steckel, the lone black mark on a franchise with otherwise respectable coaching history (hell, even Jerry Burns made it to the NFC championship). Before anyone else says Mike Tice, I'm willing to give him another chance given the roster the last couple of years. If he fucks up again though...

Cincinnati Reds: Pete Rose. Arguments about betting aside, he was a Hall of fame player, but a shitty manager.

Boston Red Sox: I'm a relatively recent Sox fan (last couple of years) so I'll let a more experienced Sox fan field this one, although I'd say John MacNamara if only for the stupid decision of putting a weak-kneed Bill Buckner out on the field.

Michigan football: Gary Moeller, if only for the supposed bar incident. He was a good coach otherwise in his short tenure (two Rose Bowl appearances and one victory)

Kansas State football: Anyone not named Bill Snyder

To break up the American dominance...

Worst coach of my team, Nottingham Forest was David Platt.

Spent £20m to two years and left us in a much, much worse position than we were in when he arrived and we were forced to sell all our decent players at very ,very low prices to get them off the wage bill.

We almost went out of business because of him, bastard.

I'm not saying hes been the worst coach our franchise has ever had... but when PJ Carlisimo was coaching the Blazers... I hated him.

Also - as a man who switched his aliegance from the Buffalo Bills to the Miami Dolphins in the mid-90's, I wasn't happy about Jimmy Johnson's Cowboy Ass coming to coach my team.

Celtics: Rick "stay in college" Pitino - Is respinsible for the current state of the Celtics(along with Chris Wallace).

Patriots: Pete Caroll - Nice enough guy, but like Pitino he is a college coach, and thats it.

Bruins: Mike Keenan - Asshole.

Red Sox: MacNamara - Not for Buckner, cause it wasnt all his fault...but for Bob f'n stanley. The REAL villan of '86.

Dick Fucking Jauron and his crap-ass little offensive coordinator.

Raiders - Bill Callahan...

"I'm going to use the same plays, the same style that Jon Gruden used the year before. Hey, we made it to the Super Bowl, and now I will use the same plays and same style against the guy who coached the team the year before... he'd NEVER think we'd do it. Oh, I guess he did. Oh well, I will change our strategy and we will play differently next season. Oh hey, we went 4-12 and my team hates me. I did well..."

If I read correctly about it, Alfonseca was refusing to get a physical before the 2002 season, and locked himself in a room refusing to come out. Torborg's son(The Demon), was the conditioning coach at the time, and was threatning Alfonseca with physical harm if he didn't come out and get his physical.

Mik, I've never heard about the Alfonseca thing. Can you elaborate?

Loria would not explain those reasons, but the Marlins were unhappy that Alfonseca reported to camp overweight and has had some back problems. He also nearly scuffled with conditioning coach Dale Torborg, aka pro wrestler The Demon, who is the son of manager Jeff Torborg. (Alfonseca chose to avert any conflict by fleeing into a clubhouse training room and locking the door behind him.)

From an article I just googled on CNNSI.

Basically what happened is that everyone wanted Alfonseca gone, and he was being a crybaby about it. He did or said something that pissed off Dale Torborg and Torborg went after him. Alfonseca is a big man, but that didn't stop him from running into the clubhouse and locking the door so Torborg couldn't get him.

Alfonseca was traded to the Cubs no less than a week later.

Doesn't the Marlins last manager just have to win this by default?

He had the World Series Champions under .500.

You just can't say that about too many coaches...

Nah, old guys are just great coaches. Heck. mayber Buffalo should go ahead and dump Mularkey and bring back Levy.

Since Gibbs decided to come back, let's just get all the living HoF coaches to come back to their teams

Bring back Grant!

Detroit Lions - Marty Mortinwheg(sp?) It seemed like each week this guy would find new and creative ways to make me feel embarrassed to be a Lions fan. Terrible, terrible coach.

Tampa Bay Lightning - I'll go with Steve "Leisure Vest" Ludzik here.

No shit. Callahan's refusal to adapt to the Raider's age and injury problems killed them. He kept coaching like Gannon was the MVP, Jerry Rice was 27, and their o-line was healthy. It was a recipe for disaster. It showed that he could only live off of Gruden's past, and that he did not have the creativity or aspirition to carve his own niche in the team.

Sox- Butch Hobson

C's- Pitino

Pats- Rod Rust. Have you forgotten the 1-15 season? Carroll may have been a softie, but he did make it to the playoffs twice.

Funny, I don't recall Florida having one either. To use the cliche, Dale Torburg isn't a has-been, he's a never was...

Jimmy built the defense, bringing in guys like Zach Thomas, Sam Madison, etc., while also working to build a running game - 2 of the biggest weaknesses of the team during the Marino-era. He basically laid the foundation for the current team, so I can't see how you'd be disappointed with bringing him in.

Flyers- Don't really know who

How 'bout Bill Dineen?

Johnny Davis could also be a candidate for worst 76ers coach.
