Betty Houle Posted May 7, 2004 Report Posted May 7, 2004 I haven't listened to them since Fear of the Dark so I haven't listed the albums since. And No Prayer doesn't get listed because it's mostly garbage.
Styles Posted May 7, 2004 Report Posted May 7, 2004 I haven't listened to them since Fear of the Dark so I haven't listed the albums since. And No Prayer doesn't get listed because it's mostly garbage. okkk....considering I like No Prayer For The Dying better than Fear Of The Dark, and think X Factor is easily their most underrated and probably in the top 5, I have stopped taking this poll, or your status as a Maiden fan seriously, but besides the point I vote Seventh Son, with Number Of The Beast a close second.
nl5xsk1 Posted May 7, 2004 Report Posted May 7, 2004 I voted Somewhere In Time, but it was hard to overlook 7th Son and Live After Death. But SiT was the first one that I really fell in love with, so it's got a special place in my heart.
KanadianKrusty Posted May 7, 2004 Report Posted May 7, 2004 My favorite is their first album, Phantom of the Opera is such a fucking masterpiece.
Slayer Posted May 7, 2004 Report Posted May 7, 2004 Somewhere in Time Not only do I love it musically, but years before I started listening to Maiden (mid-90's), it's the only Maiden poster/album cover I remember seeing as a kid (Terminator Eddie both scared and intrigued me as a youth)
pochorenella Posted May 7, 2004 Report Posted May 7, 2004 I voted for Number of the Beast, but almost voted for Life After Death. I stopped listening to Maiden after Somewhere in Time, so I cannot comment on any album since that.

Guest FrigidSoul Posted May 7, 2004 Report Posted May 7, 2004 I have Live After Death on its original vinyl. I know you're all jealous. Number of the Beast was released on the very day I was born. All of that said their original Self Titled album remains a masterpiece to this day. Phantom of the Opera is perhaps the best metal song ever written and Prowler is one of the best opening tracks I can think of. Sanctuary and Remember Tommorow flow so well into one another its frightening. I love all of the Maiden albums but the sefl titled one does stand at the top for me, with everything else tied for second. Actually, that's not entirely true since I place the Blaze stuff at the bottom...he just didn't fit the style IMHO.
Red Hot Thumbtack In The Eye Posted May 7, 2004 Report Posted May 7, 2004 Since I have a hard time swallowing any of the Iron Maiden albums in their entirety most times, I'm voting Rock In Rio since I can get my fix of all the different eras and styles.
Red Baron Posted May 8, 2004 Report Posted May 8, 2004 Piece of Mind, but its hard not to vote for Dance of Death
DARRYLXWF Posted May 8, 2004 Report Posted May 8, 2004 I'll say Powerslave, but Brave New World would be up there, as would Dance of Death. And yes, X-Factor is bloody underrated.
Corey_Lazarus Posted May 8, 2004 Report Posted May 8, 2004 Piece Of Mind. C'mon...it just fucking rules. Not a single bad song on it, nothing overly cheesy (like "Invaders" from Number Of The Beast), and it's probably the best Maiden album in terms of Bruce's vocals. Oh...and I still think Brave New World blows Dance Of Death away. The "epic" songs on Dance are better, but the totality of Brave owns Dance's fucking ass.

Ditto. I don't think I've made it all the way through a Maiden album other than Number of the Beast in one sitting.

The epic songs make Iron Maiden, and strong songs, like Journeyman, Dance of Death, No More Lies, Paschendale, are very strong, and definitly kicks BNW. BNW was a great comeback album, but its half decent compaired to rest of Maiden material.
The Metal Maniac Posted May 8, 2004 Report Posted May 8, 2004 Of the listed ones, I had to go with Somewhere in Time, though I've literally been sitting here for 10 minutes trying to figure this out. As far as nothing cheesy on Piece of Mind...I dunno about you, but Quest for Fire makes me cringe. It's not cheesy in the traditional sense, but there's something about the lyrics that just makes me switch the track every time. As for stuff that isn't listed...I think that Dance of Death beats Brave New World, but not by much.

Guest OldSchoolCarnage Posted May 10, 2004 Report Posted May 10, 2004 Its fucking sad that I'm the only one that's voted for Killers so far.
Red Baron Posted May 10, 2004 Report Posted May 10, 2004 Its fucking sad that I'm the only one that's voted for Killers so far. well if you like Punk, then ya, Killers is a damn good album. Punk + Maiden=Bad.
Guest FrigidSoul Posted May 10, 2004 Report Posted May 10, 2004 Killers isn't punk. The first 3 songs on the CD own quite a bit. Especially Wrathchild
Red Baron Posted May 10, 2004 Report Posted May 10, 2004 Killers has a strong punk influence on the album, fitting perfectly with D'Ianno vocals.
Guest FrigidSoul Posted May 10, 2004 Report Posted May 10, 2004 the only punk I hear in it is the occasional fast vocals, but the music itself isn't punk(at least when comparing it to the pinacle of punk which would be The Sex Pistols). I am however biased as Iron Maiden is my favorite metal band.
Styles Posted May 10, 2004 Report Posted May 10, 2004 Killers is an awesome album, that really only suffers from Paul rather Bruce's vocals. The thing is, with the excpetion of a couple a good argument could be made that any album is Maiden's best. They're just that good.
Betty Houle Posted May 10, 2004 Author Report Posted May 10, 2004 okkk....considering I like No Prayer For The Dying better than Fear Of The Dark, and think X Factor is easily their most underrated and probably in the top 5, I have stopped taking this poll, or your status as a Maiden fan seriously, Since I don't agree with you that No Prayer is better than FotD & because I don't listen to X-Factor, you can't take this poll seriosuly? Makes sense to me. Edit: To Everyone but Slapnuts- I didn't think I'd have any resistance to leaving off No Prayer as a possible favorite album. My apologies to anyone who has that (or their post-Fear albums) as their favorite.

My apologies to anyone who has that (or their post-Fear albums) as their favorite. Awww, boo hoo. If you're going to create a poll asking what a bands best album is, then list all their albums, unless you want to rename the poll to "What's your favorite out of the one's I've heard and liked?" It's not my fault that you're not entirely familiar with the fucking band. Jeez, I wouldn't even care if you hadn't gone ahead and made an imature snipe at me...

Jeez, I wouldn't even care if you hadn't gone ahead and made an imature snipe at me... *sigh* Not sure how you inferred that I was crying by my post. I was just apologizing to the other Maiden fans. I'm quite familiar with Maiden's catalog, thank you, but you can only list 10 choices on a poll so I went with "other" to represent the ones I couldn't fit (including A REAL LIVE ONE and A REAL DEAD ONE although I'm pretty sure no one would have chosen them). Everyone is free to post their own choice if it's not singled out in the ten choices. The whole point of the thread is to start Maiden conversation afterall. Maybe you're taking this poll TOO seriously!
Guest TheZsaszHorsemen Posted May 10, 2004 Report Posted May 10, 2004 Where was VIRTUAL XI? This is a TRAVESTY! "other" I was joking. I hate that album.
