Tawren 0 Report post Posted May 8, 2004 From puroresupower.com: Dream Stage Entertainment ran their Hustle-3 wrestling show on May 8th (Saturday) at Yokohama Arena, claiming 12,057 paid. Modified results & news report: Attendance predictions from PPH hosts: Zach Arnold - 12,000 Mike Sempervive - 11,500-12,500 Dr. Keith Lipinski - more than 12,000 1. Kaz Hayashi & Leonardo Spanky defeated TAKA Michinoku & Low Ki in 13 minutes, 22 seconds when Hayashi used his "Final Cut" on TAKA for the win. Hayashi and Spanky are now calling themselves the "ikemen tag team." Ikeman is Japanese slang for "hot guy." 2. Oscar Sevilla, Cynthia Moreno, Pimpinella Estrella, & Mascarita Sagrada defeated Gran Apache, Faby Apache, Polvo de Estrellas, & Mini Abismo Negro in 11 minutes, 32 seconds when Sagrada pinned Apache with a hurricanrana after Faby accidentally hit her father with a belt. In the mixed tag match format, they listed the guys and girls and then for Pimpinella and Polvo, they listed them as "okama." Okama is Japanese slang for "gay." 3. Dusty Rhodes defeated Steve Corino in 6 minutes, 37 seconds after an elbow drop. Blood fight with weapons and attacks. After the match, there was supposed to be a handshake but it did not happen... 4. Tiger Jeet Singh (Hustle mystery man) defeated Zebraman (Kazuhiko Ogasawara under the mask) in 5 minutes, 43 seconds with a cobra claw. Sabu came out with TJS during the ring introduction. After the match, Rhodes & Corino came out to challenge TJS & Sabu to a tag match at Hustle-4. Background information: Nobuhiko Takada, boss of Hustle, decided that he wanted to get his revenge back against members of the Japanese pro-wrestling community who has he feuded with in the past when he was a member of UWF-International. Takada's well-known political enemy in Japan was New Japan matchmaker, Riki Choshu. Choshu was the booker during the New Japan vs. UWF-International series in 1995-1996 that produced heavy cash flow for New Japan. As an attempt to get back at Choshu, Takada decided to place him into a comedy match against samoan wrestler King Adamo (renamed Adamonster since he became a part of Takada's Monster Army team). 5. Riki Choshu defeated Adamonster (King Adamo) in 2 minutes, 35 seconds with a lariat. Background information: Wataru Sakata is a former member of Akira Maeda's RINGS promotion and has fought for both Antonio Inoki (under the UFO banner) and for PRIDE. Sakata is more famously known in Japan as the boyfriend to supermodel Eiko Koike. 6. Mark Coleman & Dan Bobish defeated Shinjiro Ohtani & Wataru Sakata in 10 minutes, 2 seconds when Coleman used a side-crank hold on Sakata for the win. Before the fight, Shimada asked his team, "Dan, are you monster? Mark, are you monster? Do the hustle!" Sakata came out with a brand new costume (he normally wears the shooter gear), this time pantaloons. They did the trademark Ohtani facewash spot in the match. Finish saw Coleman get mount punches on Sakata and then transition into the can opener/side-crank for the win. "Hustle Time" with two "Hustle divas" occurred in bikinis to warm up the crowd. 7. Dynamite Hardcore Hustle Weapons Death Match: Sabu, Kintaro Kanemura, & The Gladiator defeated Masato Tanaka, Tetsuhiro Kuroda, & Tomoaki Honma in 16 minutes, 12 seconds when Gladiator pinned Honma after a top-rope awesome bomb. The theme of this match was that they had hardcore legends from FMW, W*ING, IWA Japan, Big Japan, ECW, etc. in one ring. Joe Son arrived in a thong and started dancing, this as a heat-up for his future appearance in Hustle (for Hustle-4). They did a gimmick in the weapons match where a new weapon would be introduced every three minutes. They had a table, then a guitar, then a bicycle, and then a dustbox. Giant Silva made his appearance with the weapons. Finish saw Gladiator used an Awesome Bomb on Honma through a table for the win. Pre-match angle (Kawada/Foley): A press conference with DSE boss Nobuyuki Sakakibara was held outdoors with two tables holding the three belts that comprise All Japan's Triple Crown championship. Kawada appeared in his usual expensive suit, Sakakibara appeared in same attire, and Foley appeared in his normal red plaid shirt with a black "MONSTER" t-shirt underneath. Foley came to the press conference with a barbed wire bat, as the other Japanese in attendance sat seriously. Foley discussed his last singles encounter with Kawada in Japan, which was in 1991 in an All Japan ring for the "Champion Carnival league." Foley said that this would be a revenge match and that he was not the "green boy" that he was in 1991 in AJ. "Green Boy" is a commonly known term in the wrestling community in Japan if you say it in English. Foley pointed towards AJ's newest "green boy," Taichi Ishikari. Foley went to whack Ishikari with his barbed wire bat. Interview - Foley tells Shimada and Takada about Kawada. "Takada-san, I know Kawada. Great Fighter. But, I am King of Death Match. And, special surprise for Kawada!" Foley said this in somewhat broken English to the Monster army bosses. Background: For those who do not know the angle with Nobuhiko Takada in Hustle, here is some information. Takada has created an American-style army called "Team Takada" or the "Takada Monster Army," with its main goal in destroying the Japanese wrestling community by having access to PRIDE shooters or foreign pro-wrestlers. Bill Goldberg, Mark Coleman, Kevin Randleman, Giant Silva, etc. are part of the army. Introduced into the army three days before the show were Kevin Nash, Scott Hall, and Mick Foley. Takada's main pro-wrestling rivals are Naoya Ogawa (who he calls "chicken") and Shin'ya Hashimoto (who he calls "pork.") Takada appeared at a previous Hustle show making fun of the two eating a plate of chicken and pork. Takada makes appearances in ZERO-ONE, All Japan, Hustle, etc. wearing colorful, wacky tailored suits along with sidekick, former Battlarts referee/matchmaker Yuji Shimada. Shimada is currently a member of PRIDE's office and owns a health gym in Japan that is prominently known. Shimada is a big-time wrestling fan. At the same press conference that Nash, Hall, and Foley attended, Shimada appeared as Takada's "Chief of Staff" with his own Hustle girl. The "babyfaces" in the Hustle ring are Naoya Ogawa & Shin'ya Hashimoto, with Toshiaki Kawada (representing All Japan) as a "tweener" (babyface in most occasions, can be a heel against Hashimoto). 8. Triple Crown: Toshiaki Kawada defeated Mick Foley in 12 minutes, 56 seconds after a stiff kick to the face. Before the match, Nobuhiko Takada came out representing the Takada Monster Army (and subsequently got booed). Takada talked about his suits, All Japan's style, pork (Hashimoto), and chicken (Ogawa). All Japan referee Kyohei Wada was the man in charge of the action, but Takada sent "Chief of Staff" Yuji Shimada to be on Foley's side. Foley brought out the barbed wire bat but teased that he wouldn't use it. Main point of the match saw Shimada hand Foley the barbed wire bat, only for Kawada to stop the spot with a back-drop suplex. Kawada put Foley in the stretch plumb. Foley went for Mr. Socko and put it on his hand. Kawada protected himself with kicks, but Shimada pulled Kawada's leg to allow Foley to get Mr. Socko on Kawada. Kawada went crazy for having to taste the dirty sock and started drilling Foley with kicks. Kawada hit jumping high kicks and elbows, then low kicks, and finished Foley off with a stiff low kick to the face for the three count. 9. Naoya Ogawa & Shin'ya Hashimoto defeated The Outsiders (Kevin Nash & Scott Hall) in 7 minutes, 37 seconds when Ogawa pinned Hall. This was Ogawa's first win in a Hustle ring (Hustle-1 - lost to Bill Goldberg, Hustle-2 - lost to Giant Silva). Basic American style angle with Yuji Shimada as the referee. Whenever Hall or Nash had a pinfall attempt on OH-gun, Shimada counted ultra-fast. When OH-gun had a pinfall attempt, Shimada counted slower than molasses. Hashimoto KO'd Shimada with a chop. Ogawa laced into Hall with chops, punches, his finishers, etc. Shimada "woke up" and made a mistake, thinking that Hall was making a cover on Ogawa and did a fast three count. After the match, Hashimoto and Ogawa led the crowd into a "3, 2, 1, Hustle, Hustle!" chant. Post-match, Ogawa appealed to Takada for a war in the pro-wrestling ring. However, Takada said that his attempt to destroy the Japanese pro-wrestling community didn't include just PRIDE fighters and foreign wrestlers - it also included Japanese allies. Takada indicated that he would bring in UWF-International stars to start going after Ogawa & Hashimoto. The first acquisition? The hint was "No Fear." Takayama. ... I want to see Foley/Kawada and Taka/Ki vs Spanky/Kaz so much. Kawada kicking the shit out of Foley? It sounds so priceless.
Guest Your Olympic Hero Report post Posted May 8, 2004 Mmmm ... Foley vs. Kawada. Only 13 minutes long though? Did they HAVE to get Hall and Nash to work the show? That could have added 10 on to the Kawada match.
Jingus 0 Report post Posted May 8, 2004 . . . That sounds like one of the weirdest Japanese wrestling cards in history. A barbed-wire bat, run-ins, and Mr. Socko... in an AJPW Triple Crown title match with Kawada?! Jeez, and people bitch about Mutoh being too "sports entertainment". I gotta see this one on tape to believe it.

Ced 0 Report post Posted May 9, 2004 Hearing "Toshiaki Kawada vs Mick Foley for the Triple Crown" is too damn surreal. Same feeling with OH Gun vs The Outsiders. It's 3 in the morning and I feel like my mind is making shit up. And for the record, "Dynamite Hardcore Hustle Weapons Death Match" just reaffirms my suspicion that the Japanese randomly pull English words out of hat when giving a English name to anything wrestling-related. tekcop 0 Report post Posted June 10, 2004 Well, I watched the whole show. It was kind of fun. Hayashi & Spanky vs. TAKA & Low Ki: This didn't totally suck, but it definately wasn't all that good. One of those matches that's okay to watch once, but you'll never really want to watch it again. TAKA seemed to be wrestling a part-comedy match while everyone else was trying to be serious, plus he chewed gum thourgh the whole thing. AAA Mixed Match: Take out the parts with the Trannies and this is pretty awesome. Mascarita Sagrada rules the motherfucking everything. His tope rope hurancanrana to a Mini Abismo Negro on the outside was just fucking beautiful. Boy got some real air on that one. Gran Apache really impressed me--really everybody in this match was pretty good other than Sevilla and the weirdos. Foley/Monster Army promo was pretty cool. Foley pronounces Kawada's name wierdly. We see Kawada warming up in a dressing room. He does some pushups against a counter and kicks some dude in the ass. Rhodes vs. Cornio: The thrusting hustle chant thing is now officially annoying. This sucked. Cornio spent most of his time jawing with the crowd and the ref. At one point in the match he yelled "Hashimoto Baka!" and "D...D...T!" and did it then yelled "Ogawa Baka!" and "S...T...O!" and did one. Dusty got almost no offense in during this match and still won.... yeah. A video is shown which seems to point out that Zebraman is on a losing streak. He does a promo with Hashimoto. Then they show him visiting the zoo. He stops to talk to a zebra and a panda. Dude's kind of like a Japanese version of The Hurricane with the campiness and all the posing. Zebra Man vs. Tiger Jeet Singh: Singh gets a nice pop coming out. He goes to attack some of the oaudience with his wobbly little sword... and somebody's wearing an Austin "Fock Fear" shirt. Singh was a monster heel in Japan during the 70's, right? A very long, boring squash. Kind of like Dusty/Corino without the blood and the squashie actually losing instead of hitting an elbow drop and winning out of nowhere. Beatdown form TJS and Sabu ensues. Dusty does a Kevin Nash style walk in for the save and Corino's out after the baddies are run off. Funny bit as Sabu and some ring guys have to take apart a section of the railing so TJS can get out of the crowd since he can't step over it. Adamonster vs. Choshu: Adamo's fat ass actually does the worm on the way to the ring. He's actually kind of cool. If he got rid of some of his comedy stuff I'd dig him in a tag team with someone talented. He has some fun samoan offense. Anyways, the samoan gets squashed. Sold the lariat like death on a plate. Monster Army promo. Hall & Nash look very un Hall & Nash-ish. They don't know who Hashimoto & Ogawa are. They laugh when someone (Sakata?) refers to OH Gun! as Pork & Chicken. Promo with Ogawa & Hash. Mark Coleman & Dan Bobish vs. Ohtani & Wataru Sakata: I don't even know who Sakata is and I've never seen Coleman & Bobish wrestle. To say I came into this match with very low expectations is an understatment. And what the hell did Ohtani do to himself? He looks so... happy and Peewee Hermanish. Bobish works sort of like a hobo's Ray Traylor. Coleman, on the other hand looked pretty good. I could see him having a good match with someone really good. I'd say I liked this as much as the opener, if not more. Pimpenella walks out of the ladies bathroom and hits on Bobish & Coleman and kisses the dude that went out to the ring with them. Intermission. Announcers talk. Two girls in bikini's dance and stuff. Announcers talk some more. Guy in a thong with sparkles on his head and eyeliner dances and tries to sing and dance. He does the Hustle thrust, like twelve times... you really don't want to see his package flying around like.... seriously. Garbage Match: Kanemaru and two other guys have this elaborate dance routine thingy going on. He's also wearing a a bright orange football jersey or something. Sabu and Awesome come out to ECW's old theme. The one that starts off with some guy growling "Extreme!....." I don't know which is Karuda & which is Honma. The two guys that came out with Kanemaru are already pretty involved in the match. Y'know I don't want to sit through this--weapon shots, strikes, and a couple of dives here and there--for twelve minutes. Fast-foward, love me. Ogawa comes out and does a promo. Video package for the Triple Crown Titles and then for Kawada vs. Foley. They signed the Contract with quill feather pens. Mick says he's going to give his barbed wire bat to Kawada many times all over his body. Kawada disrespects Foley who gets pissed off and attacks somebody with Barbie. Kawada vs. Foley It's sort of weird seeing Foley come out with no pop at all. Foley does a promo in the ring saying he's not going to use his barbed-wire bat. Kawada looks very bored for the first part of the match. He's doesn't really sell Foley's offense at all. Foley goest to get the bat and Kawada looks like he's about to shit his pants. He points to the ref to get it out of the ring. The tease spots with the bat are really good, but the match is really making Mick look like a total pussy. He can't beat Kawada with normal wrestling and has to resort to a weapon, but Kawada can always stop him with a kick or suplex. Good pop for Socko. Ending's kind of weird. Kawada hits his enziguri thing and Foley kicks out. Foley sits up and looks around, dazed so Kawada just punts him in the face and pins him. Ogawa video package. Hall & Nash promo. They talk about the NWO without actually mentioning it. Outsiders vs. OH Gun!: Hall & Nash come out with ring girls... one's dressed like a nurse. Hall has the word "Kliq" on the back of his tights... heh. Ogawa's ring gear is fucked up. Look for RRR's sig if you haven't seen it. Outsiders do the whole rock, paper, scissors thing. Hall makes fun of Hash's weight and does the "sumo stance" thing. He taunts a lot. Throws the toothpick... Hall and Hash do a really crappy sequence where Hall outwrestles Hash and slaps him a lot. Shinya has the same look on his face as Kawada did during the begginning of his match. Somebody needs to tell Hall that when your being shown up by Kevin Nash you need to just give it up. Both way oversell on Hashimoto's chops. Afterwards, OH Gun! cut a promo, are interrupted by Takada, and then bring a guy in a cowboy hat to the ring with them. They do the 1, 2, 3, Hustle, Hustle, Hustle! thing.

Not just a video promoting a wrestler. There was, like, a cast of characters and everything.

tekcop 0 Report post Posted June 10, 2004 Nice little review there Tekcop.....and it also let me know to stand completely clear of buying this one. I was really enjoying the show at first, but after the third hour the wackiness and bad wrestling got boring. The lucha match and and Foley/Kawada are both good, though. What was the highest rated match in your opinion??? Foley/Kawada started off pretty bad but got really good towards the end. Other than the treatment of Foley and garbage wrestling as a whole I really liked it. The lucha match started off really good. Everybody did a short section with their respective opponent (man/man, woman/woman, mini/mini, trannie/trannie), which, other than the trannie comedy stuff, was all pretty good--or in the case of the mini's, really good. Later in the match, both the normal technos seemed off, but the rudo team held it together really well. I'd probably rate Foley/Kawada as ***1/2 and the lucha tag as ***, making it the best AAA match I've seen in a long while. It's a real movie done by Takashi Miike and starring Sho Aikawa based off an old ultraman type show from the 70's. http://www.zebraman.jp/ Swank. I'm definately going to try and get a copy of that sometime.
