Guest Real F'n Show Report post Posted May 10, 2004 Benoit vs Angle 3 matches Why on earth would you do a thing like that? You're right it should be 5 matches Am I the only one who thinks this is the greatest set of matches ever...........better than HHH vs Foley better than HHH vs HBK better than Flair vs Steamboat! I can't believe no-one has mentioned the awesome 3-way matches from the past two PPV's for the Benoit DVD I demand that these matches belong on a DVD of its own, either as Best of 2004 or Best of Raw volume 5. Eh, I've always thought Benoit/Angle matches were overrated. Eddie and Benoit's earlier stuff owned Benoit/Angle (with the exception of maybe the Rumble '03 match). BTW, when's the release date for this again?
Guest momoracci Report post Posted May 10, 2004 The centerpiece Japanese match has to be Benoit/Eddy 6/11/96. It seems pretty obvious considering: i) they're on the receiving end of their biggest pushes since joining the company; ii) it's their best match together; iii) it's arguably the best performance of both men's careers and... iv) the match is THE perfect example of showing how far working a hold like it means life or death can take you. It'd be awesome if this match could get more exposure and this DVD seems to be the perfect vehicle if they could work out a deal with NJPW. And, if you ask me, it's better than anything the WWF did that year, which is no small feat with Michaels/Foley and Bret/Austin out there.
Styles 0 Report post Posted May 10, 2004 As long as they include the match versus Austin from Smackdown in May 01, I'll be happy...
JustJoe2k5 0 Report post Posted May 15, 2004 I would think Chris Benoit's win against Great Sasuke from the Super J-Cup '94 would be the centerpiece Japanese match on the set.
tbondrage99 0 Report post Posted May 15, 2004 As long as a few of these matchs are on ther I would be quite happy, though with the WWE DVDs they have been putting out lately Im sure I'll be happy, but yeah these are the ones I would really like to see on it. Benoit vs. Bret Hart - Owen Hart Tribute Benoit vs. Bret Hart - WCW Mayhem (For the vacent World title) Benoit vs. Jericho vs. Angle - Wrestlemania 2000 (For the IC & Euro titles) Benoit vs. Jericho - Summer Slam 2000 (Best 2 out of 3 falls) Benoit vs. Jericho - Royal Rumble 2001 (The best Ladder Match ever in my opinion) Benoit vs. Angle - WrestleMania X7 Benoit & Jericho vs. Austin & Triple H - Raw 2001 Benoit vs. Angle - Royal Rumble 2003 (For the World Title) The Royal Rumble itself - Royal Rumble 2004 Benoit vs. Triple H vs. Shawn Michaels (WrestleMania XX)

Guest TigerDriver91 Report post Posted May 15, 2004 As long as they don't include Benoit's 30-minute draw against El Samurai. The match was good and all, but the crowd was absolutely dead.
razazteca 0 Report post Posted May 15, 2004 Beniot vs Angle I would prefer the 30 minute submission match, the one where Beniot holds the ropes to win, and the modified grapevine anglelock matches. I am sure there are better ones but I can't think of them right now. Maybe add 3 matches of Beniot & Angle as a tag team would be great also.

The WWE could easily add crowd noise if they felt like it. I doubt anyone would complain about fixing a dead crowd. As long as they don't start chanting for the Undertaker or something. Guest momoracci Report post Posted May 15, 2004 I would think Chris Benoit's win against Great Sasuke from the Super J-Cup '94 would be the centerpiece Japanese match on the set. It might be; I just think it'd be better if they were to put on a match like 6/11/96, which is every bit as good and has probably been seen by far less people. And, for selfish reasons, I already have Benoit/Sasuke on the J-Cup '94 DVD set that New Japan put out. So, I'm looking for some more incentive to get this WWE DVD (although, I'd probably get it regardless).

The crowd wasn't absolutely dead for the match. They were into it. This here is my favourite Benoit match from Japan. Great stuff.

Guest wildpegasus Report post Posted May 16, 2004 I really hope WWE doesn't put the WM XX or Backlash 3-ways on this disc...they JUST put them out on DVD. I do hope they put them on because those are 2 of Benoit's matches I don't have and I have almost everything. If I bought a whole Wrestlemania XX or Backlash DVD than I'd be waisting space and have a whole bunch of stuff that I don't want to watch (and I don't mean that as a diss to the other wrestlers). This way I can save money.
UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted May 16, 2004 That's exactly why the WWE shouldn't put the 3-ways on it. By putting rare Japanese, ECW, and WCW matches that casual fans don't have access to, they can please both smarks (by giving them rare, good stuff) and casual fans (by giving them Benoit...duh) at the same time. Putting the WM XX match or Backlash...or even the RUMBLE for that matter is poor marketing.
Guest TigerDriver91 Report post Posted May 16, 2004 Does anyone know where to find a complete version of Liger/Pegasus vs. Ohtani/Takaiwa? From what I have seen that was a fun match. And you gotta love bitchmaster Ohtani I would rather have the triple threat matches on Benoit's DVD, since I am not all that excited about buying full PPVs. You're almost kind of forced to put the Mania event on there because it's the "climax" of the 18 year old journey for Benoit which is what the WWE has been talking about lately. You could just put highlights of Benoit winning on a career story similar to what they did with Rey Mysterio Jr. but man oh man that'd be greasy. Backlash is definitely not needed though. WOuld it be better to leave the Mania main event off or keep it on as far as sales go? I don't know and truth be known we'll never really know but I think it'd be better to put it on the Benoit DVD in the long run.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted May 16, 2004 I perfer they didn't have the WMXX Match on the Benoit DvD...it's readily availble elsewhere and Mania was good enough to get neways (it wasn't a one match card). It would take up 25 minutes of a match they could have that hasn't gotten the DVD treatment before. Really the only match i *want* is Sullivan at GAB95. I havent seen it since it's inital airing. No I don't think it does exist in full to the public but I'm not 100% sure. I'm looking for Benoit vs Liger from 9/96 in full but I'm not sure if the classics series went beyond that point. Benoit/Liger/Samurai vs Takiawa/Kanemoto/Ohtani from 97 is lots of fun too especially for Benoit fans. The crowd was really behind him here. The ending seequence is awesome. Guest Brian Report post Posted May 16, 2004 Winning the title was a high point of Benoit's career, so I'd assume they'd put that on. They've already sold the WrestleMania DVD's, so they shouldn't have to be worried about people buying this DVD just for that match. For the WWE stuff, I'd throw on mainly TV stuff (Radicalz tag, Power Trips tag, Austin match). They can clip the rumble, but like I said, the Mania match is the pinnacle of Benoit's career.
