Also, we have Glendon Rusch pitching for us, so we'll likely NEED those runs. Ah, well, we've at least guaranteed ourselves a .500 road trip against two of the best teams, and we can't possibly come home any worse off than when we left, so I'm not too worried. Also, in case nobody's heard the news, The Cubs have hit 5 home runs in two games at Petco Park, one of the hardest parks to hit it out of. HAHAHAH!

Bored Posted May 16, 2004 Report Posted May 16, 2004 A's finally sweep a series by beating the Royals 6-2. They had been 0-5 in series sweeping games so far this season. Ben Sheets of the Brewers strikes out 18 today against the Braves. For the year he has 66 strikes out and only 9 walks.

You don't walk Piazza in that situation and bring the go-ahead run to the plate. Rather, you depend on your supposed stud closer to get the out, especially with a 1-2 count. Don't get me wrong...I (as a Cubs' fan and certified Astro-hater) was THRILLED to see Piazza hit that homer. But don't blame Jimy Williams for that. I think he made the right call. The bigger thing bugging me about this Mets/Astros game is that it should already be over, with the Mets winning. The umps BLEW that fucking call at second base in the sixth inning when Ensberg came off the bag and Garcia held the tag on him. If they'd gotten that call right, the Astros' second run never would have scored and the game would have been over on the Piazza homer. The umpiring this season is some of worst I've ever seen.

On Baseball Tonight he said Jarrod Washburn is his pick for the Cy Young right now. Wasburn has a 4.68 ERA currently. He is 7-1 but has benefitted from 12 runs per game of run support. "I don't care about ERA, your job is to get your team wins." "I'm always going to pick the guy who has the most wins." I'm trying to figure out at this point if he really is this stupid or ESPN is telling him to just appeal to stupid fans (or stupid baseball writers who sometimes seem to use the same logic). Even the occasionally equally moronic Harold Reynolds thought that he was crazy.

In the postscript of Moneyball, Michael Lewis rips into what he calls the Womens Auxilery, a group of sportswriters whose job it seems is to exclude outsiders from the inner workings of baseball. Tracy Ringolsby in particular. I think Kruk and Reynolds fall into this group. Michael Lewis than stated that the ignorance of these writers is what enables the A's to win so many games. That they speak for the inner members of baseball, who also go out of their way to denounce Moneyball, in spite of solid evidence that it works. Their ignorance and stupidity continue, aided by the inner circle of the broadcasters and writers, and the Athletics continue to win.

fairtoflair7 Posted May 17, 2004 Report Posted May 17, 2004 I'm Happy...Mets are getting on track and if they can get Reyes back, they will be in good shape...that's a big if though....The pitching is soild and Ginter should be the 5th starter after his solid outing today against the NL 's top team. I hope they can get back to .500 and while they are not there yet, they still sit 3.5 out which is great considering all the injuries they had to go through. I'm hoping to go to the 1st game this year on Tues against the Cards. This team is getting me pumped and is giving me confidence in thier ability to not give up unlike some prior ass teams. About piazza...one word: Wow.... this guy doesn't stop with his clutch hitting performances. This guy may be the greatest Met of all time. If not, he's definetely up there. From this to the 10-run brave game-to the 9/11 game, this guy is pure clutch and a fan favorite. No way you can trade this guy
