Masked Man of Mystery 0 Report post Posted May 10, 2004 Okay, the only puro DVD I own is one of the FMW DVDs put out by Tokyopop. I sed to have another one, but my friend lost it. Anyways, for both his look and his wrestling, I am a big Hayabusa mark and I hope that his promotion does well. But does anyone know if there's any particular reason why his outift looked like it did, or why he later he got a tattoo on his chest, or could point me to a site with this sort of info? thuganomics 0 Report post Posted May 10, 2004 Um, yeah. FMW doesn't exist anymore and Hayabusa's permanently crippled after messing up an Asai moonsault. I don't know of any actual FMW sites (some of the bigger puro fans here might be able to point you in the right direction), but there's sure to be some info at http://www.puroresupower.com or http://www.puroresu.com
Guest Jimbo Report post Posted May 10, 2004 He changed to the "H" gimmick, with the white hot pants, bleached hair, big tatoo, etc. as part of his fued with Gannosuke, his bitter rival. Gannosuke in turn, took up the Hayabusa gimmick, mask and all. Under the H gimmick, he was he was this fiery, hot-tempered, dark, and almost maniacal loose cannon in and outside the ring. Basically, the exact opposite of the more graceful Hayabusa. After their final match (which was refereed by Shawn Michaels incidently) and Hayabusa finally got back at Gannosuke, they did the usual hug and make up stuff, and nothing of great importance happenned to him thereafter. Well, besides breaking his neck and later starting up WMF from his wheelchair...
Internet Warfare 0 Report post Posted May 10, 2004 WMF also closed down I think.
Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted May 10, 2004 I have that DVD where Gannosuke and Hayabusa wrestle with HBK as the ref. Solid, solid match. Undercard BLOWS (aside from Masato Tanka and some fat, shitty worker in an Electrified Cage, which was decent because of Masato Tanaka's awesomeness as a brawler), but Gannosuke and Hayabusa pulled off a nice, nice match. DCMaximo 0 Report post Posted May 10, 2004 The reason his costume looked the way it did for most of his career was that his close friend Jushin Liger suggested he used a gimmick similar to his, which prompted Hayabusa to find an unique mask and costume for himself. "Hayabusa" means "Falcon" or "The Bird That Never Dies", which is why at the Super J Cup 94, his first Japanese match in the gimmick, the white section in between his eyes is more beak shaped compared to how it looked in the future. WMF, despite putting on a stellar debut show, folded about a year later after crowds fell to the 400-500 mark.

Yeah, except for the part where he botches the Phoenix splash and does a face plant. Ah well, still was a good enough match.
Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted May 10, 2004 Yeah, except for the part where he botches the Phoenix splash and does a face plant. Ah well, still was a good enough match. Yeah. I find it funny how Hayabusa was the first to do the Phoenix Splash...but his is so much sloppier than that of others (especially LowKi, who has the most beautiful Phoenix Splash I've ever seen), and he's botched it plenty of times. My favorite spot (not sure if it's in that match or the one between Gannosuke and Hayabusa on the Flying Assassin DVD) is when Gannosuke hits a SNAP Falcon Arrow. That just made the move look so much cooler.
Guest Dave Dymond Report post Posted May 11, 2004 Anybody who wants more info on Hayabusa should check out THIS page. I myself am a Hayabusa fan, although he's hardly a good wrestler, he's basically Sabu with a mask, a glorified spot machine. As far as spot machines go, he was a lot of fun to watch though. I don't recall him ever having any matches that I thought were above ** but he could provide plenty of HOLY SHIT moments when he was in his groove. Then again, I also once saw a match with him, where the point was to ram a firecracker up the other guy's ass, and set it off. It was called an "anal bomb" match. I watched it because I thought there must be some OTHER meaning for anal bomb. Maybe it was an odd Japanese translation. It wasn't.
Guest Black Tiger Report post Posted May 11, 2004 This page has plenty of FMW information including a very extensive Hayabusa biography. I was among the big fans of Hayabusa, I don't really agree with Dave's "Sabu with a mask" assesment though, because he actually had a pretty decent offense. The last one with Gannosuke was good, and he had a couple good matches with Tanaka, especially the match where 'Busa with Tanaka with a snap Dragon Suplex. My favourite Hayabusa fuck-up is still the SSP on Mike Awesome. How that didn't KILL him is beyond me. Talk about a "holy shit" moment.
Guest Dynamite Kido Report post Posted May 11, 2004 I've been a fan of Hayabusa's for years, also he's one of the toughest people to step in a ring IMO. Brings back memories of me discovering Hayabusa and the NJPW early 90's Jr. division around the same time in my mark days.

Hayabusa has always struck me as having a better ground game than Sabu does, or at the very least he can cover up with a martial arts kick or two here and there. But then, I could very well be jaded, 'cause I honestly haven't seen that much of either wrestler and I AM a huge mark for masked wrestlers in general. Yeah, that was beyond sick, freaked me out the first time I saw it. Have you seen the one that actually does break his neck for good? *shudders* Anyway, has Hayabusa ever explained why he never wished to move up to the "big leagues" of NJPW's junior section? Was it his loyalty to FMW and guys like Gannosuke who he'd grown up with? I partially agree with the "Sabu with a mask" sentiment. 'Busa WAS a sloppy guy. Sur ehe could do some really cool spots, and he was quite hte innovator, but he did fuck up a lot. And he really didn't have muhc beyond those flying moves. I mean, can anyone name a standout Hayabusa match? He's had *notable* matches for their importance, but nothing really ever *great*. His FMW match with Taka that floats around on kazaa I've heard is really good, but I never got into it much.
Nighthawk 0 Report post Posted May 13, 2004 LowKi, who has the most beautiful Phoenix Splash I've ever seen Really? Every time I've seen him do it, he does the corkscrew pretty much before he jumps. It's like a girl Phoenix Splash (in the sense of a girl pushup). Anyway... I heard that Hayabusa had a great match with Masato Tanaka for the brass knuckles title, it was supposed to have been the best FMW match ever. I've never seen it, but maybe somebody who has can say if it's all that good. It's the only wrestling match I've been actively trying to see for any length of time. I have a feeling I'll be dissapointed, if for no other reason than I've been waiting a while.

I'll have to dig out my Flying Assassin DVD just to be sure though. It's easily the best FMW match I've ever seen, though they did have some nice garbage matches, ie. 'Busa/Tanaka vs. Funk/Mr.Pogo. Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted May 13, 2004 I think the match from the 5/5/00 FMW Anniversary show (Hayabusa/Tanaka) is better than the one on the Flying Assassin DVD, personally. Bad ending, though.
