Guest TheZsaszHorsemen Report post Posted May 11, 2004 Now that this gimmick is crazy over, will anyone here actually eat crow and admit that the gimmick was far better than they gave it credit for at first glance? You guys know who you are.
USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted May 11, 2004 I didn't bitch about the gimmick here but I do admit that the gimmick is better than I gave it credit for. I just hope they keep the momentum going instead of having something stupid like Eugene turning heel on Regal or something.
Michrome 0 Report post Posted May 11, 2004 No, kid will be a flash in the pan like Rikishi. There is no way to ever evolve into anything, he will be hot and popular for a few months, and then screwed forever. The ONLY way to salvage his career after this thing dies out is to have him reveal he was only faking being a retard, which is even more offensive. Have fun being over for 3 months Nick Dinsmore. SamoaRowe 0 Report post Posted May 11, 2004 Yes, I thought the gimmick was going to be full-blown unredeemable shit, but can you really blame me? The entire concept sounded idiotic, and I thought so up until the point that they stuck Eugene with William Regal. Their interactions caught my attention, and I saw some hope. With each passing week, Eugene has grown on me, and the Regal/Eugene training segment was one of my all-time favorites. WWE might do some stupid things, but Eugene is not one of them. I give the Raw creative team, not to mention Regal and Dinsmore, full credit for proving me wrong on this one.
JoeDirt 0 Report post Posted May 11, 2004 You gotta give Dinsmore credit for doing as much as possible with this thing. He's got people cheering him...but we'll see how long it can last. Dinsmore's making chicken salad out of chicken shit, though.
Guest Dazed Report post Posted May 11, 2004 To start with it sounded utterly, well, retarded. I was completely against it. But having him work with Regal has been absolutely hilarious. So yes, I was wrong, and I'm glad I was.
Guest Coffey Report post Posted May 11, 2004 I'll admit that I clowned on the gimmick at first. In fact, I even dubbed it Wrestlecrap. All that was premature, I admit. Last night I was marking out when Eugene went to the top rope. The problem is, how can Nick Dinsmore ever be anything more than a midcarder?
SamoaRowe 0 Report post Posted May 11, 2004 Yeah, no one should feel stupid for not liking the Eugene idea at first. On paper, it sounds rediculous.
JoeDirt 0 Report post Posted May 11, 2004 I don't think you can blame anyone for thinking a retard gimmick would be anything other than retarded. And hey, if Booker T as Papa Shango 2004 ends up as gold, I'll never question the WWE again.

Dinsmore's making chicken salad out of chicken shit, though. It was HIS idea. ONLY way to salvage his career after this thing dies out is to have him reveal he was only faking being a retard, which is even more offensive. There's SOOOO many ways around admitting he faked the gimmick to avoid being offensive - they already have signs that point to him being smarter than people perceive him for, including the "wrestling savant" facet of his character. Guest thebigjig Report post Posted May 11, 2004 I could see them going other places with this gimmick... when he runs out of steam as a face, they could have him completely snap, and become a psychotic heel
SamoaRowe 0 Report post Posted May 11, 2004 I could see them going other places with this gimmick... when he runs out of steam as a face, they could have him completely snap, and become a psychotic heel I also liked that idea someone had about Eugene getting an operation like in the movie Charly (or book Flowers for Algernon), and becomes a normal functioning human being. He could become a dick as a normal person and then if he wanted to turn face again and morph into lovable Eugene, the effects could just wear off. Or knowing WWE, he'd just either get hit really hard on the head (a'la Saturn) or electrocuted (see Goldust).

Detox 0 Report post Posted May 11, 2004 very entertaining gimmick he can stay over at least for the rest of the year with the possibility of matches with either william regal who could turn on him or uncle eric bischoff I like the gimmick alot it adds some comedy to the show
Guest Trivia247 Report post Posted May 11, 2004 Without the foreknowledge of what direction they were taking Eugine who could blame any of us for finding this angle a bit offensive.
Downhome 0 Report post Posted May 11, 2004 I didn't see a thing wrong with it, and I didn't doubt it would be great. It isn't the first time we've had a slow type wrestler, and this isn't the first time it caught on. I still don't understand why anyone doubted that it would be possible when it's happned before. I see them taking the old formula, and just evolving it so that the character can become more than just an attraction. I'm sure the fans would go insane over Eugene winning a title of some sort, and the matches would be great.

So, basically Z started this thread to say "I told you so" even though when WWE started taking the Rain Man route 2 weeks ago people were already reconsidering. How productive. geniusMoment 0 Report post Posted May 11, 2004 I did not bitch about the gimmick, but now I am going to bitch about the board blowing their load over the gimmick. Its hard to read a couple of posts without hearing about how great Eugene is. To some of you it appears the gimmick is better than sex, of course maybe you guys would not feel that way if you had it with someone other than yourself. DMann2003 0 Report post Posted May 11, 2004 What if instead of being legitimatly mentally handicapped, Eric reveals he suffered a traumatic incident like 10 years ago and reverted to this childlike state, and all that made him happy was wrestling. But what made Uncle Eric mad was that while he was running WCW all Eugene could talk about was WWE.
