I'm kinda curious, as I became a fan in early 89, and I remmember many wrestlers debuting with vignettes, and some just being introduced on a Superstars or Prime Time Wrestling (I think that's how LOD came in). So I was just wondering, if anyone has seen or remmembers late 87 early 88 WWF TV, how did The Ultimate Warrior debut? Did he have vignettes heralding his arrival (Like something like "Enemies will fall to the power of THE ULTIMATE WARRIOR!!!!) or did he just debut on a Superstars one week with Vince saying "And now a newcomer to the WWF, the strange and mysterious Ultimate Warrior".

Anyone have a clue?

EDIT- Thanks to Cawthorn's Great Site I see he made his TV debut on the 10/25/87 episode of Wrestling Challenge, but I'm still curious if he had promos building to his debut. Just seems given his character some pre-debut promoting would fit in.

I didn't check the site, but I always though Warrior made his debut out of nowhere in a 10 Man Battle Royale that Bam Bam Bigelow won.

despite what people think the vingettes to herald the coming of a wrestler to the WWF didn't start happening to at least 90.

with the exception of the Machines

Don't forget the infamous Outback Jack vignettes that ran for about 6 years.

I don't remember any fanfare for Warrior at all. I remember seeing him work a house show when he was still The Dingo Warrior a full month before he debuted on TV (and I need to try to find the program so I send cawthon the results of that show, as he doesn't have it on his site yet).

I could have sworn he cut a promo saying "I am not this Warrior, I am not that Warrior, I am THE ULLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLTIMATE WARRIOR!!!!!!"

he made one televised appearance as the Dingo Warrior at the Boston Garden show on 8/15/87 against Barry Horowitz. There's a chance this may have aired on Prime Time as well, but I have the match from an episode of International Wrestling Challenge in Australia so I don't know

On Wrestling Challenge on 10/18/87 Gorilla Monsoon simply said an "exciting newcomer to the WWF, coming to you next week - the Ultimate Warrior"

He debuted against Terry Gibbs on 10/25, and had no entrance music, and no running to the ring. He was then in the Battle Royal on Superstars the week after

Why the Ultimate warrior went to WWF instead of NWA......

Sting (On the phone) He Eddie

Eddie Gilbert on the other side (Voice muffled due to activities of Missy Hyatt)

Hey..hey stop that.... oh wait..don't Hey Sting..

Sting: What are we gonna go about Dingo Boy Jim?

Eddie: What about him?

Sting: he's going strange, he is actually contemplating changing his name to ... Dingo Legally!

Eddie: No that don't sound right (From the background, Missy: maybe I should bang some sense into him)

SLAP!!!

Sting: Uh Eddie?

Eddie: Oh that was nothing. So you think that Jim is getting unstable hm?

Sting: He may bring us down when we make our move to NWA.....

Eddie: Well I'll see if I can dump him on that Crappy WWF promotion, Vince's Son... Vince Jr will higher anybody.

Sting: WWF heh that will never be the best promotion HOWWWLLLLL

SLAP SLAP!!

Sting: Eddie?

Missy: Sorry about that Eddie is um... not around ...soooo when are you coming over...

Ted Dibiase and Honky Tonk Man had vignettes too.

Did undercard talents like Blue Blazer, Terry Taylor, or (at the time) Big Boss Man ever get introduction vignettes?

pretty sure none of them did. The only other one I can think of right now is Bad News Brown who had some vignettes before his debut

JHawk is right on target. I remember watching a MSG card on cable and Gene Okerlund saud that The Dingo Warrior was going to be on a house show in 87.. I thought that might be the same one that he mentioned.

and yes, he did cut that promo. I remember seeing it.

As for the Bushwhackers, I always thought it hilarious and a little bit sad how Vince could take of of the bloodiest, most violent tag teams of that era and completely pacify them.
