The Buzz Posted May 23, 2004 Report Posted May 23, 2004 Can someone name me a bad Sting match. Because I sure as hell never cringed at one of his matches other than Starrcade 97 due to the horrible booking. If my memory serves correct he has plenty of ** 1/2- *** 1/2 star matches from 98-04.

Sting v Booker at Spring Stampede. * --- and that's being generous. Sting v Vampiro --- Bash '00 --- DUD Sting v Vamp v Muta --- Fall Brawl '00 --- DUD Sting v Demon --- NBR --- DUD And that's JUST PPV shows from 2000 starting the Russo era. His bad work has been fairly consistent for many years. -=Mike

While I don't understand the Booker one the other matches have been with a wrestler who has been known to halfass it once he hits the states and the other two were with very shitty wrestlers in the middle of very shitty angles.

Slingshot Suplex Posted May 23, 2004 Report Posted May 23, 2004 I have never understood the Sting fascination. A decent/ good wrestler but nothing particularly special in any area of talent. He just had a bit more charisma than any of the other faces in NWA/WCW in the late 80's/ early 90's and people just seemed to latch onto him. And Mike SC is right. He hasn't done anything worth mentioning in my eyes since Vader a decade ago. I don't want to see him in WWE at all.
razazteca Posted May 23, 2004 Report Posted May 23, 2004 Don't forget the Sting vs Bret Hart match which could of been something special but ended up as 2 guys who did not want to cooperate.

Then, he went back to Vince, and got the boot so fast, the treadmarks on his BUTT were smoking. Then, I believe, he went to NWA-TNA, and got kicked out of there, too. If any one person can be blamed for the majority of the cause of the decline of wrestling in the past few years, it's him.
Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Posted May 23, 2004 Report Posted May 23, 2004 Hello? It was RUSSO for crying out loud. That guy got fired by Vince, then went to WCW and ran it into the ground. Then, he went back to Vince, and got the boot so fast, the treadmarks on his BUTT were smoking. No, the backlash of hiring him forced Vince to demote him, so Russo quit. Then, I believe, he went to NWA-TNA, and got kicked out of there, too. Wrong again, he's one of the better on air personalities, and is helping with the writing of the shows. If any one person can be blamed for the majority of the cause of the decline of wrestling in the past few years, it's him. Overall wrestling? Wrong again. His Crash TV/Attitude style saved WWF from the WCW-ass kicking. Maybe he ruined WCW, but it's everyone elses fault in the offices for letting him do whatever he wanted. TNA is better off WITH HIM since he at least adds interesting ideas to shows other than Dutch Mantels "OK, drag this feud on for 5 years" style. Sorry to sound like a Russo-fan, who I am indfifferent too, but what I said is pretty much true.
Guest Trivia247 Posted May 23, 2004 Report Posted May 23, 2004 It almost comes down to this. Russo is a benefit if a company is behind the 8 ball and needs something to get peoples attention. Russo becomes a Hinderance if the company is doing well, but if there is so many people watching now that a segment of them start getting disgusted on the antics a guy like Russo can do when he is behind the writing helm. TNA probably needs Russo to balance out the classic old school booking and wrestling the High impact luchador/Japanese/X style/ and the downright Redneck silliness that was seen intially at the beginning of the promotion's run (ie the midget matches)
Guest TheZsaszHorsemen Posted May 23, 2004 Report Posted May 23, 2004 If Sting came back and starting having matches with Guerrero, I think it's a safe bet that the workrate improves. Hell, Taker's did and that was just from working a couple montsh with Lesnar.
Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Posted May 24, 2004 Report Posted May 24, 2004 Sting hasn't wrestled a match over 10 minutes in years
Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Posted May 24, 2004 Report Posted May 24, 2004 Sting hasn't wrestled a match over 10 minutes in years Not too be bitchy, but he's had possibly 11-12 matches at most in the least 3+ years since WCW closed, and only half of them have been seen by a television audience, so the other half could've gone long. (just speculation)

Guest prezben Posted May 24, 2004 Report Posted May 24, 2004 Just to throw in my two cents.... Sting isn't as bad as many of you are making him out to be. While I appreciate that he was a shining light in the eternal darkness that was WCW he did put on some decent matches and feuds and was involved in some good angles to boot. I am reminded of his match with Dallas Page which was excellent despite the fact that WCW then repeated it every Nitro for the next month. From what I remember of seeing Sting (and I also appreciate that he hasn't done much since could have slowed-up a lot and now be lame) he used to put on decent matches, got the crowds going and certainly did draw a bit for WCW. I agree with the statements that if he was to come in it should be for some novelty matches which put future WWE stars over and I also agree that Luger shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a television camera that has nationwide broadcast capabilities. In summing up, the WWE hired Goldberg for a year and seeing as though my deceased grandmother can wrestle better than Goldberg and also has more charisma then why shouldn't Sting be allowed a similar deal? ---------------------------------------------------- The Prez CEO - Shooterswrestling.com

DDP/Goldberg? Very Good, but too late to save the show. IIRC, the show had an awesome Jericho/Raven opener, followed by a bunch of crap that was later edited out of the Video Release.
SuperJerk Posted May 24, 2004 Report Posted May 24, 2004 I think all we really want to see is Sting drop from the rafters, beat the shit out of HHH with a bat, and leave. I'd pay $35 bucks to watch that.

Australian Pride Posted May 24, 2004 Report Posted May 24, 2004 I'd pay to see him do it to pretty much the entire Smackdown roster. As long as Eddie makes the save and then goes on to whoop Sting in a one-on-one match on PPV. Go knows he'll need something to re-enhance his image after this pathetic JBL feud.

It's safe to say that ANY old WCW main eventer vs. Eddie Guerrero will be better than this feud with Bradshaw (as long as Eddie wins of course). EXCEPT Lex Luger. Lord knows he wont even sell for his friend Sting, check out how he no sells EVERYTHING A.J. Styles does back in November on TNA.

I am reminded of his match with Dallas Page which was excellent despite the fact that WCW then repeated it every Nitro for the next month. Sting v Vader was excellent. Sting v DDP didn't approach that level. It was decent-good. From what I remember of seeing Sting (and I also appreciate that he hasn't done much since could have slowed-up a lot and now be lame) he used to put on decent matches, got the crowds going and certainly did draw a bit for WCW. Cornette actually made a good point about that. Sting NEVER drew. As he pointed out: Sting v Flair drew. Luger v Flair drew. Sting v Luger didn't draw squat. Maybe the "draw" wasn't Sting or Luger. In summing up, the WWE hired Goldberg for a year and seeing as though my deceased grandmother can wrestle better than Goldberg and also has more charisma then why shouldn't Sting be allowed a similar deal? Because one asininely bad hire does not mean multiple asininely bad hires are needed. I'd throw the Warrior in with Luger, but i'm not sure he actually headlined in WCW. I'd throw it out there because it couldn't POSSIBLY be WORSE than expected. -=Mike
Australian Pride Posted May 24, 2004 Report Posted May 24, 2004 I'd like to see HHH get the WM XII job back in another 2:00 match, but thats asking too much, Wrestlemania 21 - Fatal Fourway Hogan vs Warrior vs HHH vs Y2J Warrior eliminates Hogan and gets revenge for Hogan stealing his spotlight at WM6 HHH straight away eliminates Warrior to avenge WM12 And finally, Jericho makes HHH tap to avenge WM19 (and every other time HHH has squashed him). Now thats asking too much!

I'd pay $35 bucks to watch that. I'd record it, then burn it onto a DVD, and put it in a protected case. I'd pay $50 for it, too. Maybe Vince should think along those lines. Triple H=no ratings. Triple H getting his ass kicked over and over again=uber ratings.
Guest 11and0baby Posted May 24, 2004 Report Posted May 24, 2004 I'd Like to see sting. Cause he serves the purpose of money matches against guys ala the point of Goldberg and then he can leave. He makes Vince Money he gets some money and will put guys over so its a win win situation that and if Seek and Destory plays and Sting walks out I'll Mark Out like a bitch
The Buzz Posted May 24, 2004 Report Posted May 24, 2004 I'll just sum it up and say that WWE would become a lot more watchable for me if the Stinger was back. He's had his share of great matches, his share of stinkers. He's got an undeniable Charisma. His mic skills are decent at best. And if motivated(being signed by the WWE should do that) I think he has a few 3 to 3 3/4 star matches left in the tank. Especially considering the number of breaks he took in the last few years of WCW. Judging his work in TNA he doesn't have any ring rust. If they do bring him in I hope they do not waste it. It needs to be properly thought out. Maybe to much to ask?
