nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted May 26, 2004 I know, I know ... Boston only makes this list because of the Red Sox. The quote above is the only reason I hate being from Boston ... the Celtics have won more NBA titles than any other team. The Bruins had one of the longest streaks of "consecutive years making the playoffs" of any team, in any sport, of all time. The Pats win 2 of the last 3 Super Bowls. But my city is 'tortured' because the Red Sox haven't won the World Series. Damnit, other than the knuckle-draggers who haven't evolved enough to care about a team other than the Sox, we're all living a pretty charmed life here in Boston. nl5: would rather the B's win a Cup than the Sox win a dozen World Series in a row. (and count me with those that say that Cleveland should be the #1 city. Yes, they have Lebron right now, but remember when Grant Hill was the NBA's Golden Child? All athletes are just an injury away from saying sayonara)
Guest slacklet Report post Posted May 26, 2004 FINALLY!!! WE'RE #1!!!! 4 straight SuperBowl losses. Music City Miracle. No Goal. No Goal 2. Losing a professional Basketball franchise. Losing in the AFL Championship Game heading into SuperBowl 1. 6 Finals appearances in our 2 pro sports...0 Championships. IT WAS ALL WORTH IT!!! You forgot the 1998-1999 playoff game in Miami. 4th down, under a minute left, Marino throws a pass that is caught out of bounds. Ref: "just give it to him". Dolphins score, Bills get fucked. During that miracle comeback against the Oilers, on 1 of the TD's (or at least a long pass), 1 of the Bills WR's (white guy, I'm thinking either Beebe or Tasker) ran for a couple strides out of bounds in order to get past the DB before catching the ball. Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted May 26, 2004 What about Los Angeles? Sure they have the Lakers, but the Dodgers have been ass for a while now and the Kings haven't been much in 32 years and even then no cup to show for it (closest was against Montreal in 93). And of course who can forget the Clippers? And there's of course the whole thing of having the second most populated city in the country and not having a single NFL franchise. They say it's because the fans don't care. Oh really? Have you seen how nuts these guys get when the Lakers are doing well? If you hop on the 5, the 405, or the 101 anytime at rush hour, the freeway is littered with purple and gold Laker flags from cars, trucks, and SUVs. Not to mention the Rams and Raiders have kept a few faithful in the city. While I don't think LA is near the top of most tortured, they're certainly in the top 15. Definitely more than Boston should be, especially after reading that article. But hey the LA Xtreme won the XFL Title Game! I actually saw a lot of people with LA Xtreme jerseys and t-shirts at the time too...

Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted May 26, 2004 Indianapolis gets no love. All they've got are the transplanted Colts who've never won anything here, the choke artist Pacers, and no Major Baseball or Hockey teams. The sports fans here are friggin' nuts, too, they just all root for other teams like the Cubs. People here even go batshit over college basketball. Hell, High School basketball, too. KingPK 0 Report post Posted May 26, 2004 What about Los Angeles? Sure they have the Lakers... Should have stopped right there. You've seen the rise of Shaq and Kobe, they have been perennial favorites, and they had a fantastic run in the 80's, which includes some of the greatest NBA Finals series in history with the Celtics. Plus the Dodgers haven't been that terrible. As for the NFL, LA has lost not one, but TWO franchises. There has to be a problem there, since football teams just don't get up and leave (well, if you aren't the Baltimore Colts, anyway).
Just John 0 Report post Posted May 26, 2004 I'm surprised KC wasn't higher up on the list. The Royals won the WS in 85, but haven't done shit since. The Chiefs have been worthless for a while now. Every time they show potential in the regular season, they piss it all away in their first playoff game (with or without a bye). Also lost an NBA team in the 80's. Cleveland definitely should be number one. All of their sports teams are embarrassing to their respective leagues. And when they finally get close, they can't seal the deal (WS vs. Florida/Atlanta, Browns AFC title games).

Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted May 26, 2004 L.A. can kiss my ass. They have the Lakers, and the Dodgers won in '81 and '88. 2 World series out of how many years of existence?! As for the NFL, LA has lost not one, but TWO franchises. There has to be a problem there, since football teams just don't get up and leave (well, if you aren't the Baltimore Colts, anyway). Then what is the problem? And not just the Colts, but look at the Browns, the Oilers, and the Raiders who were transplanted from Oakland to LA to begin with, then just moved back. The Rams thing really killed though, especially because they were a truly homegrown franchise and they had a loyal fanbase. Not to mention they won the Super Bowl 3 years later. EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted May 26, 2004 2 World series out of how many years of existence?! That's just recent. The Dodgers also won in '59, '63, and '65. In fact, only three other cities (New York, Philadelphia, and St. Louis) have won more World Series than Los Angeles.

Jorge Gorgeous 0 Report post Posted May 27, 2004 Right now, as I watch the Pistons and the Pacers, I have to say my home sweet home, Portland, OR is pretty tortured. The Blazers just missed the playoffs for the first time in 22 years, the guy we drafted in 96 is now an MVP candidate for another team, Rasheed decides he wants to play hard now that hes gone, we've had to deal with a slew of criminals on our basketball team, that 14 point 4th quarter comeback the Lakers put on us to win their first championship in the Kobe/Shaq era, the Oregon Ducks getting fucked out of the national championship game by the BCS (Fuck the Cornhuskers), we produced Tanya Harding, we can't get any other professional teams even though we shoe up en masse to Trailblazer games (this year not included) - and its not like we don't have rich guys living here, Paul Allen, Phil Knight anyone? We have ONE championship in the history of our city, and that was in 1977. We've only got one team, so I don't think we really qualifiy, but its not easy, either. Guest Anglesault Report post Posted May 27, 2004 Philadelphia absolutely has to be #1. With teams in all four sports, they've won nothing since 1983. 93 Phillies won the NL. Unless, of course, you're trying to imply that no one gives a fuck about who comes in second.
Spaceman Spiff 0 Report post Posted May 27, 2004 Phillies also have exactly *1* title in 121 years of existence. A 76ers team holds the all-time worst NBA record. The Flyers had 2 guys die young from leukemia, 1 guy die young (19) from a boating accident, and 1 guy crash his Porsche leaving him brain dead (also young). That's a lot considering they've been in existence for less than 40 years. I don't care about the Eagles, though.

nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted May 27, 2004 I don't get some people ... if your city has won a championship in the last 10-15 years, you can't say that you're really that tortured. There are only 4 major sports, and one winner in each, so it's not like a lot of teams get to win a title. Leave the tortured tag to the cities that have gone decades without a title. The Blazers just missed the playoffs for the first time in 22 years, So, even though your team has made the playoffs for most of, if not all of, your entire life, you still think you've been tortured?!? The Sens are always disappointing, and they are always threatening to move the current last place Lynx, but we are good collegiately (Ravens basketball, Gee-Gees football), we finally have a CFL team back, and the 67s are the best and most historic franchise in the OHL. MillenniumMan831 0 Report post Posted May 27, 2004 How can Cleveland NOT be #1?!? 40 years with ZERO CHAMPIONSHIPS! Cavs --- NEVER been to the NBA Finals. Got close but Jordan saw to it that we stayed miserable. Browns --- Last won an NFL Title in 1964. Christ, there were like 12 teams back then. NEVER been to a Super Bowl. Got close but Elway saw to it that we stayed miserable. Indians --- Well, at least they have been to 2 World Series in the modern era. However, Cleveland was thisfuckinclose to winning in 1997 but the Marlins saw to it that we stayed miserable. Sounds like a broken record.
