Season Four is, in my opinion, when the show truly got awesome. I may actually have to get this one as opposed to thinking about getting the first three.

Know what I'm looking forward to? People posting how much they hate the Simpsons. Nothing makes a thread more fun than people wasting their time and energy to make a post about not liking the subject at hand.

Having said all that, count me in as someone that's buying this season as soon as it's out. Season 4 was the first really great season, IMHO, and it's a must buy.

They really need to start releasing these bi-annually or they next medium will be out by the time they get these all on DVD.

Kamp Krusty! YES!

Bart: Krusty! This camp was a nightmare! They fed us gruel, they forced

us to make wallets for export, and one of the campers was eaten by a bear!

Krusty: [horrified] Oh My God!!

Bart: Well, actually, the bear just ate his hat.

Krusty: Was it a nice hat?

Bart: Oh yeah.

Krusty: [horrified] Oh My God!!

Check out a Michael Moore thread sometime.

I'll buy Season 4 the day it comes out but it will take me a long time to watch them all. Some of these episodes I've already seen 100 times!!

I agree with this definately. The fourth season is when the writing really was "on" and the animation started improving rapidly at this point too.

It's kinda Ironic that Nl5 talks about wasting time in a subject one doesn't like, all-the-while wasting time on a subject he doesn't like (that is, Simpsons-bashers).

Meanwhile, IMO, Season 4 was the best season of the simpsons. One of the best representations of the medium you can find.

Is that the one with the classic Brockman: "I've seen Vietnam and Korea and I can say, without hyperbole, that this much worse than both of them put together"?

Or something like that.

And, Betty, Moore is gonna get ripped, no matter what. Deal with it. Be glad I spent the time to rip him for legitimate reasons, and not for simply being the best birth control device ever conceived.

I'd agree more if I only posted that one paragraph and then nothing else ... it's the act of only posting a "I hate what you guys are talking about" message that irks me. At least I was going to be talking about the subject at hand as well.

I'm not really good with the episodes names so I can only recognize a few of them, but nonetheless, I'll definitely buy this set, since I also have Season 3 and I believe then is when the show got awesome.

So it's ok for me to say how much I hate the current version of the Simpsons and then talk about the actual subject matter?

Cool.

Shit, the Simpsons suck so much. Who is the fucking ad wizard who came up with making LISA a central figure to more episodes than Bart? Lisa is the worst character in television history.

And Homer the Heretic and Streetcar Named Marge are two of the best episodes ever...

Lisa, indeed, is one of the worst characters in the history of TV ... not quite as piss-annoying as the mom on King of the Hill, but pretty fucking close.

And I'm not a huge fan of Streetcar Named Marge ... the Homer scenes are Golden, but too much Marge for my liking. (I find Marge almost as annoying as Lisa. The only Simpons that I actually find funny are Homer, Granpda, and Maggie. The rest could be killed off and I'd sleep at night.)

The big problem with Lisa is that she's so annoying that you just get pissed off when they try and build any sympathy for her whatsoever. She was ok in the beginning but not very interesting but now she's just a total bitch. I usually don't watch a rerun if I know she'll be the focus of it.

I never really understood the hate for Marge or Lisa. You may find them annoying, but the characters are needed for the family to work. Making the whole family like Homer and Bart would've been a mistake.

I actually like Lisa and Bart equally. Marge has had more than enough memorable things happen that there's no reason to hate her.

What is the deal with Bush vs. Simpsons on Disc 1?

In 1992, George Bush Senior started badmouthing the Simpsons in the media as being an example of how America was going to hell. In particular, he made an infamous comment about how American "needed more Waltons and less Simpsons on television". Which led to a life-long hatred for TPTB in charge of the Simpsons for Bush, culminating in them doing an episode where Bart and Homer torment Bush for 30 minutes...

TV with more Waltons and less Simpsons would be so incredibly boring. There's a reason PAX isn't considered a ratings threat.
