Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Posted June 2, 2004 Report Posted June 2, 2004 OK, I know we had a favorite one, but that became a complete farce when Quentin Tarantino got 3 movies into the semi-finals while Rocky & Scarface didn't. So let's nominate some great movies for a tournament of 64 movies. Please nominate a minimum of three films or a maximum of 5 with 4 being the middle man. Remember, GREATEST movies.
LaParkaYourCar Posted June 2, 2004 Report Posted June 2, 2004 To Kill a Mockingbird The Ten Commandments Ben Hur I figured I'd throw in some classics.
slabinskia Posted June 2, 2004 Report Posted June 2, 2004 I hope these qualify as best.they are in my top 10 list. taxi driver scarface the usual suspects forrest gump full metal jacket
Guest Askewniverse Posted June 2, 2004 Report Posted June 2, 2004 The Godfather Part II Goodfellas American Beauty Rocky Yeah, I'm not exactly happy with the results of the "favorite movie" tourney either...and I'm the one who's running it.
Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Posted June 2, 2004 Report Posted June 2, 2004 It's not your fault, it's all the "all of a sudden love" for Tarantino flicks. I expected LOTR or something to win...not Tarantino stuff.
Edwin MacPhisto Posted June 2, 2004 Report Posted June 2, 2004 Why do you think the results of this are going to be different? Half the nominations will inevitably be the same.
Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Posted June 2, 2004 Report Posted June 2, 2004 Most of the Semi-Finals thread has people saying their favorite movies aren't ones you watch over and over, just like Kill bill, Pulp Fiction and the other one. They aren't great, but are fun. I think differently. A Great movie is one I can watch over and over and not get tired of.
Guest Askewniverse Posted June 2, 2004 Report Posted June 2, 2004 In theory, the voting shouldn't be the same.
The Ill One Posted June 2, 2004 Report Posted June 2, 2004 Rear Window (Personal favorite) Casablanca (respect, bitches) It's A Wonderful Life Fight Club (Yeah yeah yeah, ready to catch heat for that) Se7en?

Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Posted June 2, 2004 Report Posted June 2, 2004 Life Is Beautiful Is that the film with Roberto Bengini in a concentration camp with his wife and son?
Nighthawk Posted June 2, 2004 Report Posted June 2, 2004 I disagree with this idea conceptually. Who here is qualified to judge this? Who anywhere, for that matter. This is an ideal format for a favorite movies tournament, but greatest? Nah.
Guest ShamRock Posted June 2, 2004 Report Posted June 2, 2004 Raging Bull Taxi Driver The Shawshank Redemption The Deer Hunter On the Waterfront
Toshiaki Koala Posted June 2, 2004 Report Posted June 2, 2004 The Godfather The Killer LOTR: The Return of the King L.A. Confidential Heat
Boner Kawanger Posted June 2, 2004 Report Posted June 2, 2004 You know, Scarface isn't a great movie, but it's fun. Jaws Monty Python and the Holy Grail Goldfinger
Guest Dynamite Kido Posted June 2, 2004 Report Posted June 2, 2004 Midnight Express Empire Strikes Back Dr. Strangelove
nl5xsk1 Posted June 2, 2004 Report Posted June 2, 2004 2001 Once Upon a Time in America Menace II Society Fast Times at Ridgemont High (yes, I know 2 of my choices are off the beaten track, but a lot of what I'd have nominated have been suggested already.)
chaosrage Posted June 2, 2004 Report Posted June 2, 2004 Back to the Future Shawshank Redemption Rocky
chaosrage Posted June 2, 2004 Report Posted June 2, 2004 The Godfather Part II Goodfellas American Beauty Rocky Yeah, I'm not exactly happy with the results of the "favorite movie" tourney either...and I'm one the one who's running it. You should do like Choken One and just quit, don't have a finals, and don't mention the tournament again.
Anakin Flair Posted June 2, 2004 Report Posted June 2, 2004 Citizen Kane The Usual Suspects Das Boot Scarface Reservoir Dogs
Guest CurryMan Posted June 2, 2004 Report Posted June 2, 2004 The Shawshank Redemption The Usual suspects Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb
Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Posted June 3, 2004 Report Posted June 3, 2004 If there's not enough for a 64 tournament, I'll just cut it to 32 and go from there. Keep nominating for a few days.
The Mandarin Posted June 3, 2004 Report Posted June 3, 2004 Pulp Fiction Reservoir Dogs Kill Bill Vol. 1 Back to the Future Honestly, though: Goodfellas~!~! American Beauty Amadeus Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind Monster
NYU Posted June 3, 2004 Report Posted June 3, 2004 American History X Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood Forrest Gump
Nighthawk Posted June 3, 2004 Report Posted June 3, 2004 Seriously, don't underestimate perfect movies in genres not commonly associated with greatest ever. Like: Beverly Hills Cop Die Hard Once Upon A Time In China Hard Boiled
godthedog Posted June 3, 2004 Report Posted June 3, 2004 I disagree with this idea conceptually. Who here is qualified to judge this? me. i hereby judge 'the bicycle thief' to be the greatest movie ever made. i thank you all for your participation and interest, you may go home.
Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Posted June 3, 2004 Report Posted June 3, 2004 So far, 57 movies have been nominated. Once 7 more movies are nominated I'll start making up the brackets via RANDOM Drawing...for the first round only.
WrestlingDeacon Posted June 3, 2004 Report Posted June 3, 2004 Some people don't seem to be getting the idea here: Citizen Kane Touch of Evil The Third Man The Searchers Wait Until Dark The Americanization of Emily Cool Hand Luke Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid The Manchurian Candidate The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence Chinatown A Face in the Crowd Grand Illusion An American in Paris Breakfast at Tiffany's She Wore a Yellow Ribbon Vertigo The Quiet Man Night of the Hunter Greed Bride of Frankentstein Duck Soup Key Largo The African Queen
